According to the updated data collected from Cardano Blockchain Insights on August 4 by Timestabloid, wallets created on one of the largest smart contracts platforms, Cardano, have hit an all-time high. 

At the time of writing, the total number of wallets on the Cardano network is 3,502,500. While the total number of ADA delegators on the chain is 1,172,839. Data shows that in the last two months, over 1500 wallets were created daily.

Meanwhile, the number of smart contracts on the platform exceeded 3,000 for the first time on August 1. At the time of press, as seen on the Cardano Blockchain Insights platform, the number has reached 3024.

Cardano Blockchain Grows

Cardano blockchain continues to grow bigger as its adoption rate increases among players in the crypto industry and other entities.

This growing adoption rate of the 8th largest cryptocurrency project by market capitalization could be attributed to the stable and scalable state of the platform.

Unlike the Solana blockchain which has recorded multiple outages this year alone and other security issues, Cardano has operated for about five years without any case of a network outage. Over 5000 Solana wallets have been drained in a recent hack case.

The legal custodians of Cardano, Input Output Global (IOG), tasked with the development of the smart contract platform, have been working on making Cardano a more scalable and interoperable network. 

However, the Cardano Vasil upgrade has met several postponements and holdups. In response, the CEO of Input Output Global, Charles Hoskinson noted that the elements causing the Vasil upgrade to be delayed are considerably small.

Charles Hoskinson Explains Reason for Vasil Upgrade’s Delay

As earlier reported by TimesTabloid, Charles Hoskinson, the creator of Cardano (ADA), has explained the major reason behind the delay in the implementation of the much-anticipated Vasil hard fork.

In a video update about two days ago, Hoskinson noted that the delay is caused by some bugs that need to be fixed before the upgrade can be successful.

Recall that the community expected the upgrade to go live at the end of July, but later delayed for more weeks. According to Cardano creator, Vasil development is currently in its final testing phase. So, except something new is discovered, there shouldn’t be delays anymore.

“The good news is that the set of things that could go wrong have gotten so small, and now we’re kind of in the final stages of testing in that respect. So unless anything new is discovered, I don’t anticipate that we’ll have any further delays…

“Things are moving in the right direction steadily and systematically and I just wanted to give you guys an update that it’s all well in hand this is the nature of these types of upgrades,” Charles Hoskinson said.

Hoskinson added that the team of developers at IOG is currently working to fix the discovered bugs and the result has been positive.

Cardano Developments: Key Highlights

Regarding smart contracts, the Marlowe team and Plutus team have made new introductions to improve the Cardano network. 

Per a report, the Marlowe team developed the marlowe-runtime project last week. The newly created project in marlowe-cardano was used to test Marlowe CLI against the Cardano Node 1.35 upgrade for the Babbage development stage. 

Whereas, in the previous week, the Plutus team focused on fixing bugs in the Plutus-contract emulator. Also, the Plutus Tools team updated the official Cardano node to version 1.35.1. 

While the Plutus team refined the conformance and mainnet regression tests, the Marlowe team has added extra property-based testing of Marlowe semantics. Additionally, the Marlowe team has fixed static analysis to consider ‘Close’ contracts unreachable. 

On Scaling, the Hydra team successfully switched the code base to Babbage and also created the quick check dynamic repository to enhance contributions on Hydra. 

Core Technology and Governance

In the past week, Cardano developers created a few tags including v.13.0.1 DB Sync tag and the 1.35.1 node tag. Meanwhile, the networking team continued working on TCP simulations and typed-protocols reviews. 

To note, this updated version of the Cardano-node incorporating the typed-protocol design is functioning and operating competently. Particularly, this node tag was developed to solve a ledger issue. 

As revealed in the report, “the node, ledger, and consensus teams are now in the process of updating dependencies and working closely with SPOs and the community on testnet issue resolution. GraphQL, Rosetta, and Cardano Testnet Explorer will be upgraded following the new node and DB Sync tags.” 

It is worth noting that the Project Catalyst ecosystem has entered one of the most important times during fund cycles; its second Quality Assurance (QA) stage. 

Interestingly, Fund9 now has eight reviews per proposal resulting in a total of more than 19,000 reviews. Meanwhile, voter registration to participate in Fund9 is open and will remain so until the wallet snapshot on August 4th, the team said.

Daedalus and Lace Wallets

Recall that in February, the IOG announced the release of Daedalus 4.8.0 Mainnet. This new version of Cardano Daedalus Wallet came with interesting features and improvements. 

In the same vein, the Input Output Global team is currently working on another Cardano-based wallet called Lace. This wallet is projected to be launched this summer. 

In the just-concluded week, the Daedalus team rolled out additional elements to improve the wallet services. Precisely,  a warning icon that appears if non-recommended decimal settings are applied has been added to the Daedalus wallet. More so, the team has improved how anonymous analytic data is collected on the application. 

Importantly, the new Cardano Node 1.35.1 has been successfully integrated into Daedalus-Testnet and is set to be released. Accordingly, the Lace Wallet team is working to ensure that its backend can collect data from the UI components.

Vasil Upgrade Nears

Vasil upgrade, one of the biggest introductions on the Cardano network is around the corner.

With the Vasil hard fork on Cardano Testnet done and dusted in early June. Up next is the implementation of the Vasil upgrade on the Cardano mainnet. While anticipating this, some elements of fear, uncertainty, and disorder were raised by some Twitter users, claiming that Cardano’s smart contracts are not compatible with the Vasil hard fork. 

However, a Cardano top executive cleared the air and rebutted the widespread FUD about the upcoming Vasil Upgrade.

In further preparation for this hard fork combinator event, the Adrestia team has successfully updated Adrestia components. Adrestia then becomes the first Vasil-compatible version of Cardano-wallet to be released.

According to data from Cardano Blockchain Insights, on the 19th of April, there were 3,268,890 Cardano (ADA) holders compared to 3,339,101 on the 19th of May. This indicates the addition of 70,211 ADA addresses within a month and an average of 2,340 daily addition.

Moreover, Cardano whale transactions also hit a 4 month high as large players took advantage of the bear market to buy the dip. Data shows that Cardano whales’ activity started surging on May 12th after ADA price bottomed out at $0.40.

Cardano (ADA) Keeps Making Notable Marks

Notably, Cardano added over 70 smart contracts a week as more developers joined the blockchain. The leading PoS blockchain added 283 Plutus (a Cardano-based smart contracts platform) scripts, going from 2,400 on the 8th of April to 2,683 on the 8th of May 2022.

Cardano is now preparing for the Vasil hard fork, which is scheduled to take place in June 2022. The major upgrade is specifically designed to expand the protocol and massively enhance its transaction throughput, including volume and liquidity.

At the time of filing this report, Cardano (ADA) is trading at $0.5244, with a relatively 1% price uptrend in the last 24 hours.

Based on transaction volume, Cardano, the largest proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain, surged to double that of Ethereum (ETH) over the last 24 hours.

Per data from Messari, the 24-hour Cardano transaction volume stands at $12.69 billion, while Ethereum only managed to accrue $6.38 billion in the last 24 hours.

Adjusted volume is still a good means to separate only the most important transactions. Cardano also outperformed Ethereum in this aspect, recording $12.50 billion and $4.70 billion, respectively, over 24 hours.

A couple of days ago, TimesTabloid reported that Cardano displaced Bitcoin and Ethereum to occupy the first position based on 24 hours transaction volume, negating critics who claimed that Cardano is a ghost chain.

Since the beginning of the year, the leading blockchain has been displaying an outstanding performance with loads of activities on the network.

Cardano Blockchain Keeps Expanding

According to Cardano Blockchain Insights, the Cardano blockchain experienced about 13 GB growth since the start of the year, representing a massive increase in on-chain activity.

The Alonzo hard fork is part of the network’s Goguen era named after Joseph Goguen, an American professor of computer science from the University of California and the University of Oxford. The Goguen era succeeds the Shelley era, in which the Cardano network became decentralized and community members became validators.

So, the rapid increase in the number of smart contracts on Cardano is an indication that Plutus is gaining much-needed popularity among developers.

Obviously, the implementation of smart contracts functionality on the Cardano has massively increased its network activity. New projects are launching, while more are expected to go live on the blockchain as we advance into 2022.

On 22nd January, it was reported that the Cardano network’s average blockchain load hit an all-time high of 94.49%. This huge rise is attributed to the recent rollouts, especially the launch of decentralized exchange (DEX) SundaeSwap on 20th January 2022.
