Ingenico, a well-regarded company that provides payment technology and services to merchants, has recently teamed up with Crypto.com to allow real-life payments for goods to be made with cryptocurrency. This is a fundamental step forward for cryptocurrency to become a fully acceptable method of payment across all businesses. The goods sold by these merchants will join hundreds of other merchandise and services available for purchase with cryptocurrency, including everything from sports cars to online gambling services. Big brands such as Tesla, Expedia, and Microsoft all now accept crypto.

Cryptocurrency can also be used as a payment method for online casinos. This includes the sites listed in this article on the top ETH casinos written by Kane Pepi. These sites allow players to use Ethereum crypto in exchange for cheap, fast, and secure transactions.

This new Crypto.com and Ingenico collaboration is estimated to open up sales from these merchants to an additional 680 million users worldwide, improving revenue for sellers across the globe and making purchasing goods easier for everyone.

For example, cryptocurrency will allow buyers to purchase goods with their own currency in a foreign country, and sellers to receive that payment in their country’s currency. Of course, there is no plan to replace traditional payments with cryptocurrency, but having this as an additional payment method is an intelligent move to open up merchandise to a variety of different people.

And Ingenico’s plans to bring cryptocurrency as a regular method of payment aren’t ending here. With the aid of Crypto.com, they are in communication with various merchants to make these methods of payment a viable option for customers as soon as 2025. This service is expected to be available across multiple different countries, including the US, UK, and Asia.

The introduction of crypto payment to merchants will not be one of high complexity. All a payer needs is the blockchain address of the merchant they are buying from. This can be copied and pasted into their crypto wallet, but businesses are advised to provide a QR code for crypto payments at the checkout to help streamline the process. The ease of this, in addition to all the well-known benefits of cryptocurrency, is one of the things that makes crypto so appealing as a method of payment for real-life purchases. This payment has numerous benefits for both the merchant and the buyer.

This strategic and global partnership, sealed on Monday, makes the London-based company a member of Visa in Asia-Pacific (APAC) and the United Kingdom. As a bonafide member of Visa, Wirex is now well-positioned to pilot new blockchain drives and offer novel ingenious products to enhance the daily utilization of crypto by users. 

It’s worth noting that Wirex has the majority of its customers based in the United Kingdom while its customer base is recording rapid growth in the Asia-Pacific region. “The agreement between Wirex and Visa will support further collaboration in major markets, including APAC, UK, Europe, and the USA,” part of the press release read. 

Particularly, Visa will enable the cryptocurrency payment services provider, Wirex, to directly hand out crypto-powered debit and prepaid cards to its over 5 million customers in over 40 countries. Wirex believes that this partnership with Visa will fuel them to empower everyone to access the benefits of crypto.

“It’s great to strengthen our partnership with Visa, who have played an important role in allowing us to bridge the gap between the traditional and digital economies. However, the two companies are not working together for the first time. Per the update, Wirex became the first company in the world to develop a crypto-enabled card and this was in 2015. The regulatory framework legalizing the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment has just been approved by Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies.

The document, signed under the code PL 4401/2021, makes provision for the inclusion of virtual currencies and frequent traveler rewards from airlines in the definition of payment agreements, which will be supervised by the Central Bank of Brazil.

Although the law has been approved, there is a need for enactment by the President of Brazil. The law gives legal status to payments for goods and services in form of cryptocurrencies. However, this does not grant them a legal tender status.

After the law comes into place, it will be up to the executive branch of the government to determine the body or office in charge of supervising the matter—only tokens categorized as securities fall under the jurisdictions of the CVM, Brazil’s equivalent to the SEC.

It should be noted that the law does not mention any dispositions regarding the issuance of a central bank digital currency; however, Brazil has already made significant progress in the matter.

One of the most important aspects of the regulation is the obligation for service providers to separate their funds from those of their clients as a way to prevent a situation similar to that of FTX, where the exchange used its clients’ funds for its own financial operations.

The law avoided a provision granting tax benefits to cryptocurrency miners and also recognized that digital currencies facilitated criminal operations because of their pseudonymous nature, calling for “closer monitoring” of the industry.

This recently added feature shows that MoneyGram is pushing hard to become a notable pioneer of cross-border payment innovation and blockchain-enabled settlement.

MoneyGram and Coinme sealed a partnership in 2021 to expand people’s access to crypto by creating thousands of new locations in the United States.

The firm is expected to increase the number of cryptocurrencies on its list in the future as it explores expansion to other markets in the coming year in line with crypto global regulations.

According to CZ Binance in the announcement, this is one of the ways Binance has adopted to further push for the global adoption of cryptocurrency.

Amit Zavery, one of Google Cloud’s top officers, equally mentioned that they are intending to participate and try out storing and managing clients’ cryptocurrency assets, using Coinbase Prime, a service designed by the leading exchange for that purpose. 

As revealed by Google, the acceptance of crypto payments for Cloud services will be switched on in early 2023, courtesy of integration with the Coinbase Commerce service.

The Coinbase commerce service supports 10 digital currencies only, including Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ethereum (ETH), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and Litecoin (LTC).

In addition, Amit Zavery, the Vice President and General Manager and Head of Platform at Google Cloud noted that the Google Cloud platform infrastructure service will initially accept cryptocurrency payments from a subset of customers in the Web3 world who would choose to pay for their services with any of the supported cryptocurrencies. He added that in the long run, Google will open up for more customers to make payments with cryptocurrency. 

Courtesy of this collaboration, Coinbase, the largest United States crypto exchange by trading volume is also planning to move its data-related applications to Google from the Amazon Web Services cloud, which the exchange has been relying on for several years, Jim Migdal, Coinbase’s vice president of business development revealed.

It is worth noting that the terms of this strategy deal between Google and Coinbase were not disclosed. However, Coinbase’s Vice President of Business, Jim Migdal indicated that the exchange will earn a percentage of transactions that go through its payment portal just like every other similar partnership.

Therefore, it is a mutually beneficial collaboration as this development would likely position Google Cloud for greater adoption ahead of its competitors, especially from crypto-supported organizations.

Meanwhile, it is said that Google considered other platforms that facilitate crypto payments like PayPal but Amit Zavery asserted that Coinbase had the greatest capabilities.

In furtherance, Vitalik Buterin mentioned that crypto payments are more effective, advantageous, and improved than the traditional payment method. 

On this premise, he added that the emergence of crypto payments is a great gain for enterprises. This is so because this financial technology eliminates location barriers as businesses that support crypto payments can gain patronage from anyone in the world, regardless of locality.

In the words of Vitalik Buterin, “people continue to underrate how often cryptocurrency payments are superior not even because of censorship resistance but just because they’re so much more convenient. Big boost to international business and charity, and sometimes even payments within countries.”

“Though I do think that the adoption and integrations that make crypto actually usable for semi-mainstream international payments ultimately depend on its credible neutrality (which censorship resistance is a part of),” he added.

Unlike the conventional payment method where financial institutions like banks act as middlemen and operations are controlled by them, crypto payments are facilitated over a decentralized network with no middleman needed. More so, transaction speed is far greater with cryptocurrency than its counterparty.

However, Vitalik Buterin further noted that he is not ruling out the importance of censorship resistance. “I never said anything dismissing the importance of censorship resistance, I just… pointed out my personal experience that it’s a much better payment rail than the actually available present-day alternatives,” he wrote in response to a certain Twitter user.

Worthy of note is that several businesses and financial institutions are embracing digital assets as a payment method.
