In a series of tweets on 20th January 2021, IOG stated that the process is targeted at increasing the Plutus script memory by 1.2M on the Cardano mainnet. The report added that the increment will become effective from 25th January at 21:44:51 UTC.

This implies that the major process will increase the smart contracts platform’s script memory units per transaction from the current 11.25M to 12.5M.

Input Output Global tweeted, “PARAMETER UPDATE: Today, we have commenced the update proposal process to increase Plutus script memory units per transaction on the Cardano mainnet by 1.25M. This initial change will take effect at the boundary of epoch 317 on Tuesday 25th January at UTC 21:44:51.

“The current Plutus script memory units per transaction = 11.25M. After this change, it will be 12.5M. This incremental adjustment is the next in a continuing series of planned adjustments & network optimizations we’ll make as we start to scale Cardano for future growth.”

According to IOG, the major upgrade is expected to provide increased resources for Plutus and the decentralized applications (DApps) using them. Once the upgrade is deployed, it will be monitored for at least five days to determine the next increment.

SundaeSwap Finally Launches

As outlined in a blog post on 15th January, SundaeSwap has finally launched as a fully-functional beta decentralized exchange (DEX), and Yield Farming SUNDAE rewards is expected to start today.

In the earlier mentioned announcement, IOG said with the arrival of many exciting projects on Cardano, users should expect network congestion:

As reported by Times Tabloid, SundaeSwap launched its public testnet on 5th December 2021. Also, in collaboration with Runtime Verification (RV), the Cardano-based DEX completed its security audit in late December.

In a blog post published on 7th January, the SundaeSwap team stated that during their testnet launch event, a large backlog in processing user actions was noticed, which was partially due to continued improvements to the Scooper order batching program but was more due to the current maximum throughput parameters of the Cardano blockchain.

Although the team admitted that the congestion could impact the user experience negatively, they stated that it is a sign of the Cardano network performing as expected by gradually applying backpressure.

SundaeSwap Mainnet Launch To Play Out On 20th January

In a blog post published on 15th January, SundaeSwap Labs announced that the DEX’s mainnet launch will take place on 20th January 2022. The team stated that the DEX will launch as a fully-functional beta decentralized exchange.

The team says the first round of ISO rewards will be calculated and participants must delegate ADA to qualifying ISO Scoopers prior to 21:45 UTC on 25th January to be able to earn SUNDAE for all five ISO rounds.

On 20th January, yield farming SUNDAE rewards will start. Yield farming will be available for at least the first six months of the SundaeSwap launch, and during this period, LP tokens staked to yield farming contracts in eligible pools can earn additional SUNDAE rewards.

SundaeSwap team noted:

“During our testnet event, the team noticed a large backlog in processing user actions. This was partially due to continued improvements to the Scooper order batching program, but was more due to the current maximum throughput parameters of the Cardano blockchain.

“While this is likely to negatively impact the user experience, the congestion is a sign of the Cardano network operating as intended by gradually applying backpressure. This created natural queues so that the Cardano network could absorb this load without crashing or decreasing the security of the ledger.”

As part of their ongoing discussions with Input Output Global (IOG), the firm behind the development of Cardano (ADA), over protocol parameters, a mainnet load test was conducted on 18th December 2021.

Below are the results of the load test:

“Over the course of this 40-minute load test, a single SundaeSwap Scooper performed 139 scoops (i.e., transactions which aggregate many user operations), which is approximately 3 scoops a minute. This is lower than the roughly 7 scoops per minute we saw on the testnet.

“Additionally, due to lower protocol parameters on the mainnet compared to testnet, these scoops on average aggregated 3 user operations each. This is lower than the 5 to 8 operations we observed during SundaeSwap’s operation on the testnet.”

In the blog post, the team stated that as the SundaeSwap mainnet launch is fast approaching, it wouldn’t be easy to predict the load during the first week of operation. However, the team shared a few things that must be noted:

1. There is a much lower barrier to entry compared to testnet; there’s no need to interact with a faucet, switch your wallet to testnet, etc.
2. There is greater incentive to participate in the DEX to capitalize on its utility with real funds
3. There is greater risk of participation since users are exposed to losses of real funds through trading activity
4. The SundaeSwap DEX must share network bandwidth with other launching protocols, themselves driving additional network demand.

Due to an increase in the level of demand and excitement from the Cardano community, the team also expects a large backlog on mainnet. However, they said all orders will be fairly processed according to the order they were received.

The team added that orders can be canceled by users at any time before they are processed by the Scoopers.

They finally stated that the network congestion is not expected to last indefinitely, assuring that the network will eventually recover. The implementation of a series of improvements and enhancements planned by IOG to scale Cardano network capacity throughput in 2022 is expected to make things work as intended.

In a blog post captioned in the tweet, SundaeSwap noted that there were issues identified by the audit, which were immediately resolved to the satisfaction of the auditor’s validation process.

The blog post reads in part as follows:

“The RV audit included a thorough review of SundaeSwap contracts using verification-based techniques, the identification of specific risk vectors, and a full analysis of the SundaeSwap development team’s fixes for issues identified by the audit.”

According to Pi Lanningham, Chief Information Officer of SundaeSwap Labs, Runtime Verification’s audit process was not rubber-stamped. He said:

“RV’s thorough process identified a number of issues that we were able to quickly resolve. The result is a DEX that is able to safely meet the needs of the Cardano DeFi Community. Cardano’s core principles embrace security and resilience, and it is important for the protocols built on Cardano to carry on this tradition. By completing this audit, we have accomplished that for version 1 of the SundaeSwap protocol”

Lanningham added that SundaeSwap Lab will continue to engage RV for the review of its future updates to the protocols it plans to build in the future.

“We plan to continue to engage with Runtime Verification as we build future improvements to the protocol and present them to the DAO for voting. It is critical for the long-term success of any DEX to evolve in a secure and robust way.”

Meanwhile, the Cardano-based decentralized exchange SundaeSwap was launched on the public testnet on 6th December 2021. The protocol is one of the major projects expected to launch on the Cardano network in the coming year.

Input Output Global (IOG), the software firm behind the development of Cardano (ADA), announced on 5th December that SundaeSwap decentralized exchange (DEX) is launching soon as a testnet.

IOG added that it looks forward to a growing interest in Cardano’s big DEX ambitions.

“Later today, SundaeSwap will launch their DEX on the #Cardano TestNet launch. We’re expecting a huge amount of interest in this highly-anticipated event, and lots of activity. This is why we are collaborating. Because we’re looking to learn a lot, too.

“The test is intended to put the network under high throughput so we can monitor and analyse the current network parameter settings. As a user, expect congestion on the testnet. This will be a sign that we are getting the traffic volume we want/need to properly assess!”

Since the launch is just a testnet, there are a few steps to take in order to participate. Using a third-party wallet like Nami is required to connect to the faucet to obtain testnet tokens to experiment with.

The announcement did not mention how long the testing would run or a mainnet launch date. SundaeSwap is a scalable decentralized exchange and automated liquidity provision protocol enabling native token and ADA exchanges with a whitepaper released in June.

Expressing the reason for scheduling the testnet launch, SundaeSwap team wrote:

“A testnet serves a number of purposes. First and foremost, to identify any bugs that come from being used by thousands of users with fresh eyes, as opposed to developers and auditors who’ve been working on it for months. Because of this, we are expecting bugs, and are eager to hear about them.

“Second, it provides an opportunity for us to provide a gentle on-ramp and training in a low-risk environment for the scoopers that the community recently selected to run the network. We’ll start with the network running on our nodes, and slowly bring the scoopers online, training them on the software we’ve built, and transitioning the protocol to being entirely run by them.

“Third, a testnet helps identify unexpected bottlenecks and inefficiencies. As we are now very close to our launch, we have to be careful to consider not just ourselves, but the ecosystem in which we exist. This is where you can help.”

The team further added that it will provide a detailed roadmap towards the launch once the testnet is concluded.

The implementation of such incremental changes is believed to be crucial for making Cardano scalable enough for the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector.
