According to an update shared earlier today, the independent LUNC development team TerraCVita has finally brought project Terraport Finance to life. This strategic DeFi platform built by TerraCVita comes as the development group strives to revitalize the LUNC project. 

“It’s finally arrived the day Terra Classic has been waiting for. Terraport launch day. Join us now and make crypto history and help start LUNC recovery,” the announcement read, highlighting the reasons members should support the new project. 

The team noted that the success of Terraport will be quite beneficial to LUNC in many ways. As per the update, Terraport’s success will help create new LUNC trading pairs and make it easy to enter the Terra Classic ecosystem. It would also encourage developers to build and launch new decentralized applications (Dapps) on the Terra Classic blockchain.  

Very importantly, the Terraport team reiterated that the project will help burn a good percentage of LUNC’s total supply and TERRA, its native token. Recall that the team stated in its whitepaper that Terraport would burn billions of LUNC weekly and subsequently revealed how the massive feat would be achieved.

Rex Harrison, a senior member of TerraCVita affirmed this, labeling the DeFi project a LUNC furnace. Harrison further outlined the major roles Terraport will play in the Terra Classic ecosystem.

It bears noting that the development of the decentralized crypto exchange built on the Terra Classic layer-2 network began in 2022 courtesy of TerraCVita. Its launch is quite strategic as it comes at a time the community needs more utility for the once-broken chain. 

Terraport Functionalities

Terraport allows users to swap among three tokens — LUNC, TerraClassicUSD (USTC), and TERRA. Equally, users can yield-farm by supplying supported assets to the available liquidity pools.

More so, the platform incorporates a TERRA staking functionality where users can stake Terraport’s native token to end interests ranging from 16% to 60%, based on the chosen staking duration.

According to a senior member of TerraCVita, Rex Harrison, the team is weighing in on the creation of an infrastructure testnet in the Terra Classic ecosystem. 

As part of the update, he created a poll to discover the standpoint of the LUNC community concerning the infrastructure testnet idea as well as ascertain members that would love to take an active part in the deployment of the testnet. 

Interestingly, the majority of the LUNC army is in full support of the idea as they believe it would facilitate the revitalization of the Terra Classic project. On the other hand, a good percentage of community members showed interest in helping bring the infrastructure testnet to life. 

At press time with 13 hours left for the Twitter poll to end, a total of 284 users voted. Out of the 284 users, 77.1% of them, representing 296 community members, want TerraCVita to run with the plans while 10.2% (29 members) said they would love to work with the team. 

While 8.1% of members indicated their lack of knowledge about an infra testnet, 4.6% said the LUNC development group should not develop it. 

In stating the significance of the shared idea, Rex Harrison disclosed that the testnet would enable the Terra Classic Joint Layer-1 Task Force to join forces with decentralized application (DApp) creators to develop the project’s Layer-1 code. 

He added that the testnet would equally enable DApp builders and network validators to test L1 codes to reduce issues pertaining to upgrade releases. 

Speaking of which, the L1 Task Force accomplished two key network upgrades last month — V.1.0.5 and V.1.1.0. Both upgrades triggered the reintroduction of LUNC burn by Binance. The leading crypto address recently confirmed the date for its next massive LUNC burn.

It bears mentioning that TerraCVita is currently developing Terraport, a decentralized exchange built on the Terra Classic blockchain. This DeFi project, which would burn millions of LUNC, is expected around Q2 of 2023.

The strategic and essential Terra Classic network upgrade, which lasted for roughly seven hours earlier today, addresses all concerns that deterred Binance’s LUNC burn contribution. 

With the ball now in Binance’s court, the Terra Classic community can only hope that the top exchange doesn’t change its mind. Recall that the exchange halted its voluntary LUNC burn last December because the community passed a proposal to mint burned LUNC. 

Notably, Binance demanded that its affiliated wallets should be exempted from on-chain tax, adding that a separate burn wallet is created for the exchange if it must resume LUNC burn on March 1. 

Terra Classic V.1.1.0 Upgrade Live

The anticipated Terra Classic V.1.1.0 upgrade, designed to suit Binance’s conditions for resuming LUNC burn went live today, although it was projected for February 28. As earlier reported, the upgrade which was supported by Binance was slated to be executed at a block height of 11,734,000. 

According to updates from notable members of the LUNC community, it took about seven hours for the V.1.1.0 upgrade to be completed by LUNC community developers. It was noted that during the period of the upgrade, the Terra Classic network was mildly unstable. 

Asobs who first shared the development on Twitter wrote, “The LUNC network is running again! The update is live and we are moving forward.” He added that the Terra Classic community should expect the resumption of LUNC burns from the CZ-owned crypto exchange. “Binance LUNC burns just around the corner,” he wrote.

Edward Kim, an associate professor at Drexel University and a senior developer in the LUNC community confirmed the successful execution of the Terra Classic V.1.1.0 upgrade, as per a subsequent tweet from Asobs.

A certain LUNC proponent and Cosmos enthusiast known as The Vinh Nguyen later revealed that the upgrade was a 7-hour chain upgrade experience, applauding the efforts of Kim and other core developers. 

Recall that Kim proposed this upgrade on February 14, highlighting that the migration to V.1.1.0 would contain governance-approved features to the Terra Classic blockchain. 

Particularly, the development exempts Binance’s wallet from being levied the LUNC on chain tax, adding a burn tax split feature. With the Terra Classic  V.1.1.0 upgrade, no burned LUNC would be reminted. 

Accordingly, full node operators and validators on the network will have to install and run the current version v1.1.0 to function properly. 

Will Binance Resume LUNC Burn?

The exchange is yet to disclose its stance on LUNC burn but it is likely to resume the initiative, given that the Terra Classic community has satisfied all the conditions outlined by Binance. However, the anticipated resumption will see a 50% reduction in Binance’s LUNC burn volume as earlier reported.

Following the massive community support and passing of the signal proposal submitted on February 14 by a senior member of the Joint L1 Task Force, Edward Kim, the stage has been prepared for a Terra Classic network upgrade. 

On Tuesday, the leading crypto exchange, Binance confirmed its support for this upgrade on the public and open-source blockchain — v.1.1.0. 

“Binance will support the Terra Classic network upgrade,” the press release said. The exchange added that it will handle all technical requirements involved for all users holding LUNC, and TerraClassicUSD (USTC) in their Binance accounts.

Particularly, the network upgrade, which was scheduled for February 28 at a block height of 11,734,000, sets out to add new features to the Terra Classic blockchain. The features are designed to address the key conditions outlined by Binance to consider resuming its voluntary monthly LUNC burn events. 

According to Edward Kim, v.1.1.0 is the first major release that will utilize the upgrade governance proposal mechanism to upgrade the Terra Classic chain. He added,  “this release contains governance-approved features to the Terra Classic blockchain, including tax exemption list, burn tax split, no-reminting of the burn wallet, as well as mandatory security updates.”

It bears mentioning that the v.1.1.0. Terra Classic network upgrade comes shortly after LUNC developers upgraded the blockchain from v.1.0.4 to v.1.0.5. All of these recent upgrades by LUNC developers aim to bring back the halted monthly Binance LUNC burn events. 

As earlier reported, Binance said it would resume LUNC burn today if the Terra Classic community met its requirements which have all been addressed. While the exchange is yet to disclose its latest stance on LUNC burn, it should be noted that Binance will only burn 50% of trading fees derived from LUNC spot and margin trading. 

Binance remains the largest contributor to the LUNC burn expedition with roughly 20.1 billion tokens burned by the top exchange. At press time, approximately 39.6 billion LUNC have been burned.

Terra Classic (LUNC) Blockchain Upgrade to v.1.1.0

Tobias Andersen, a member of the Terra Classic layer 1-focused development team known as the Joint L1 Task Force hinted on Monday that another major Terra Classic upgrade is around the corner. 

Having completed the Terra Classic blockchain transition from v.1.0.4 to v.1.0.5 about a week ago in order to meet Binance’s requirement to resume LUNC burn, the active development team, the Joint L1 Task Force is set to upgrade the Terra Classic blockchain to v.1.1.0. 

In a tweet shared on the 20th of February, Andersen, a senior member of the team wrote, “1.1.0-rc1 seems to be working now,” sharing the GitHub link for confirmation. He added that the upgrade to v.1.1.0 “should be good to go soon.”

This update comes shortly after Garuda Nodes, a validator on the Terra Classic network, announced that a new play-to-earn game would be launched on the LUNC blockchain by Q2 of 2023.

Edward Kim, the brain behind the formation of the Joint L1 Task Force mentioned this upgrade in the signal proposals he submitted to the community for voting last week.

The lead Terra Classic developer proposed that three optional features including wallet exemption to on-chain tax, separate burn wallet exempt from Seigniorage and burn tax split to the community pool should be added on the LUNC blockchain when the upgrade to v.1.1.0 is completed. 

Bringing these optional features to the Terra Classic blockchain would enable the community to meet Binance’s conditions to pick up LUNC burning, the associate professor pinpointed. 

According to Kim, these three optional features would only be added to the Terra Classic blockchain alongside the next LUNC network upgrade to v.1.1.0, if there is a signaling consensus on the three signal proposals. 

On the other hand, Kim said that if all three optional features fail to pass the signaling governance, there will still be a release of v1.1.0 put forth for voting that contains consensus-breaking required security updates.

A recent update showed that Garuda Nodes, the 59th-largest LUNC validator at press time, is on course to launch a play-to-earn (P2E) game powered by Terra Classic blockchain (LUNC) by the second quarter (Q2) of 2023. 

This impending Terra Classic-based blockchain game is dubbed Gurada The Protector. Notably, the play-to-earn game is designed to have several non-fungible tokens (NFT) characters that are available for minting on the Miata marketplace, a new NFT platform launched on the Terra Classic blockchain. Per the announcement, only 320 units of the game NFT are available for minting.

“The next game project in LUNC blockchain: Garuda The Protector will be released on Q2-2023,” the team disclosed. “Mint your NFT Garuda in Miata.io as a character in this Play-to-earn game,” the update added.

Reacting to the planned game launch, a LUNC growth group BetterLunc inquired to know whether the Garuda The Protector game would support the LUNC burning expedition. Betterlunc wrote, “This is pretty cool! I’ve been waiting on a LUNC game! Maybe it’ll burn some [LUNC]?”

Following this question, the Garuda Nodes disclosed that the game will not only burn via on-chain tax burn but revenues derived from the game would be burned as well. “Yes, there is on chain tax burn and we will burn some of our revenue from this game too mate,” the team behind the Garuda The Protector game replied. 

TerraCVita, an independent LUNC development group that is currently developing Terraport Finance — a decentralized finance exchange — on the Layer 2 of the Terra Classic blockchain equally embraced the anticipated game.

To this end, the notable contributor to the revitalization process of the LUNC crypto project and senior member of the Joint L1 Task Force team, Edward Kim introduced three Signal proposals around three optional features for consensus governance voting from the community. These 3 proposals, labeled 11358, 11359, and 11360 were submitted on Tuesday. 

Notably, these three optional features needing consensus voting include — wallet exemption to on-chain tax, separate burn wallet exempt from Seigniorage and burn tax split to community pool. According to Edward Kim, the first two optional features are required for Binance to resume burning 50% of their LUNC trading fees. “The third is independent and has no bearing on Binance’s LUNC burn continuation request,” Kim stated.

Considering that all three are signal proposals like the recently passed USTC repeg proposal, no immediate technical consequences would ensue even if it passes. But any optional feature that passes signaling governance will be subject to another final vote for the Terra Classic community to accept, Kim noted.

Part of the proposal wrote, “Thus, the signaling vote at this time is not an acceptance or rejection of the technical adoption of these features, but rather a question of should they even be included for consideration in the next release.”

On the whole, the LUNC development team hopes to upgrade the Terra Classic network to a more advanced version — v.1.1.0—with these optional features onboarded, if there is a signaling consensus in the community. 

“Finally, if all three optional features fail to pass the signaling governance, there will still be a release v1.1.0 put forth for voting that contains consensus-breaking required security updates, including a patch recently provided by Jacob Gadikian,” Edward Kim concluded.

According to Rex, a senior member of the independent Terra Classic development group, TerraCVita, the top seven risks currently facing the LUNC project include excessive voting power, security, technology, leadership, image, and accessibility. 

The Terra Classic blockchain was built as a decentralized network but recently, only a few validators seem to be influencing the decision-making in the community. Hence, the project faces the risk of becoming centralized following the issue with voting power.  

Jacob Gadikian, the Notional Labs founder spotted this threat as earlier reported, citing that Allnodes, the top-ranked validator on the Terra Classic network had a high voting power of 40% at that time while other validators have theirs to be less than 8.03%. 

But Harrison noted that centralization risk on the LUNC network is reducing and getting resolved gradually. At the time of writing, Allnodes’ voting power sits between 28–29% days after Edward Kim addressed these validator-related concerns raised by Gadikian. 

Rexyz noted that security, technology, and accessibility risks are all reducing significantly on the LUNC network. On the other hand, he submitted that the incessant criticisms and conflicts of ideas in the community are increasingly denting the image of LUNC, chasing away potential investors. 

Recall that the founder of Terra Classic Do Kwon deserted the project after TerraClassicUSD (USTC) depegged last year. Since then, the project has been community-driven, making the problem of leadership a major one. With the recent outcomes in the community where developers have been spotted blasting one another and some even resigning, Rex Harrison wrote that leadership risk is high. 

Speaking on the risk of governance stability, the TerraCVita team member indicated that the constant changes regarding LUNC tax burn and gas fees are only making the Terra Classic unstable. To eliminate this risk and attract businesses, builders, and investors, he said a stable LUNC ecosystem must be created.

To improve the proof–of–stake Terra Classic blockchain, Edward Kim, a top LUNC developer proposed a version upgrade last month. Proposal 11310, which passed governance voting on Friday with a 99.99% Yes vote intends to transition the Terra Classic blockchain from the current v.1.0.4 to v.1.0.5. 

Accordingly, Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange by trading volume, noted in an announcement that it will support the upgrade slated to take place at the Terra Classic block height of 11,543,150, or approximately on February 14. Notably, this is just an estimated schedule as the upgrade could happen earlier or before the date mentioned.

The exchange added that deposits and withdrawals of Terra Classic (LUNC) will be suspended starting from the aforementioned block height. But will reopen deposits and withdrawals for LUNC once the v.1.0.5 upgraded network is stabilized. Additionally, Binance noted that the trading of LUNC will not be affected during the network upgrade. 

It bears mentioning that the execution of this upgrade would enable the Joint L1 Task Force to meet Binance’s remaining requirement to resume LUNC burning.

Recall that in late December 2022, Binance announced a notable change to the LUNC burn model on its platform. According to the exchange, it will start burning 50% of LUNC spot and margin trading fees rather than the usual 100%, citing Terra Classic developers’ plan to re-mint LUNC burns to fund development.

Edward Kim, the author of the proposal and the Terra Grants Program team lead proposed that Terra Classic should have no canonical repository. He recommended that guardianship of the code that runs on the LUNC blockchain should be determined solely by the active network validators.

In other words, Kim, who prefers a completely decentralized LUNC project, contested that the Terra Classic code base should not be controlled by any developer group or centralized entity. Alongside this, Kim proposed that the procedure of using code commit hashes (starting with the current code hash) should be the preferred method of upgrading the Terra Classic blockchain. 

In highlighting the motives behind the proposal which he submitted for voting on January 5, the core LUNC developer disclosed that the Terra Classic L1 developers are being held back from pushing their LUNC development function due to the team’s inability to access the current Terra Classic canonical repository.

This is because the current Classic canonical repo is subject to the approval of Do Kwon’s TerraForm Labs team. The Terra Classic L1 developers do not have “write access” to the current canonical repository, Edward Kim wrote.

The core LUNC developer disclosed that the TFL team, which has the “write access” to the latest Terra Classic canonical repo dubbed “classic” is no longer working on the Classic chain. As a matter of necessity, Kim stressed the need to eliminate or change the project’s GitHub canonical repo in the proposal. 

He said;
