What’s next after the Milestone?

According to Charles Hoskinson in a new video, after the much-awaited Alonzo mainnet launch, Cardano is looking forward to the debut of the Plutus application backend, which offers a collection of components that will enable all levels of users to build on the network.

Charles Hoskinson noted:

“So that’s the day, and you know what happens? There has to be a morning after, September 13th, Monday. We wake up. It’s business as usual. Lots of things will happen. [The] network will probably be under a lot more load because people play around with things and test things and that’s fine.

And a few weeks later, the latest and greatest version of the Plutus application backend will be released and we’ll have the Cardano 2021 summit. And there will be a huge spotlight on the ecosystem as a whole. That will be a great event.”

In the video, Cardano’s creator showcased his belief in the fact that the long path of the platform to the smart contracts era will benefit the crypto industry at large.

Hoskinson added:

“We worked for a very long time. Some of the members of this team have been working for over four years. We did our work. our homework. We did hundreds of presentations, dozens of papers.

Prior to the official announcement, Cardano Foundation stressed the importance of the much-anticipated Alonzo upgrade. The Foundation stated that Alonzo mainnet launch serves as the beginning of a significant era in the Cardano ecosystem.

Cardano Foundation tweeted, “The Alonzo upgrade will bring highly anticipated capabilities to Cardano… this is where the mission truly begins as we – the whole community – start delivering on the vision we have all been working towards for so long.”

The Alonzo Era is on its way. A couple of hours ago, IOG, in a series of tweets, confirmed 12th September as the actual launch date of Alonzo. This implies that the Cardano community should expect the running of smart contracts on mainnet in a matter of days.

In a series of tweets, IOG wrote:

IOG Denies Rumors about Cardano

Over the past few days, there have been rumors going around the crypto space regarding Cardano and its smart contract platform, Plutus. The platform is currently on its final testing stage, and it’s expected to go live with the Hard Fork Combinator event, Alonzo, on 12th September 2021.

The major concerns and rumors that spread across social media platforms revolved around Cardano’s capacity to handle a high number of transactions, which is due to the protocol’s ledger approach and their Unspent Transactions Output (UTxO) blockchain model.

According to Cardano critics, the blockchain UTxO model without a fee gas model will cause the platform to encounter problems upon Plutus’ launch.

In response to what was classified as social media speculation and outright FUD and misinformation, IOG pointed out that the network’s programming paradigm is quite different from Ethereum’s.

IOG noted:

“Cardano is a UTxO (Unspent Transaction Output) blockchain, which utilizes a different programming paradigm for DApps than on account based blockchains like Ethereum (ETH)…

At the time of writing, Cardano (ADA) is trading at $3.06 and is currently on the verge of surpassing $100 billion in terms of market capitalization. This comes following a market-wide increase over the last couple of hours.

On the other hand, the largest cryptocurrency by market cap, Bitcoin (BTC), has gained over 5% based on 24 hours estimation. Now closes on breaking above $50,000 resistance level once again. Many analysts believe this is good for Cardano (ADA) as the whole market is believed to currently rest on the wings of the flagship digital currency.

Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency is also doing well in the market. At the time of press, ETH is trading at $3,754, with a relatively 7% price upsurge based on 24 hours estimation.

The current positive trend of the digital token ADA has been attributed to the official launch of smart contracts on the Cardano testnet.

What Happens After Cardano Public Testnet Hardfork?

Cardano hard fork is coming. In the short video captioned in the update, IOG answered the likely questions in relation to what it means to Cardano as a whole and what happens after the hard fork on 1st September:

“Once we hardfork the [Cardano] testnet, then we can start testing everything inside the package in a live production environment. We will be running our own test and invite other to test as well.

Hoskinson made this new development known in a brief update about the progress and plan of IOG on Alonzo. During the live update on 10th August 2021, Cardano founder stated that the software firm would announce on Friday when Cardano would fully support smart contracts.

Hoskinson hinted that the deployment will play out before the upcoming Cardano Summit, which is slated for next month.

Charles Hoskinson noted:

 “We’ll be able to announce when the Alonzo hard fork is going to happen, and at that point you’ll be able to run smart contracts on Cardano.”

Cardano (ADA) Price Surges 20%

In the wake of the announcement, the price of ADA, the native token of the emerging smart contracts platform, Cardano, started experiencing a notable appreciation. Over the last 24 hours, the cryptocurrency has surged more than 20%.

At the time of writing, according to CoinMarketCap, Cardano (ADA) is trading at $1.77, its highest price level in over two months.

Cardano’s Alonzo Starts to Onboard Users

Since the launch a few days ago, Cardano’s Alonzo Purple has been onboarding users to its public testnet, which indicates that the much-awaited Alonzo deployment to mainnet is very much around the corner.

It’s worth noting that Alonzo White that preceded Purple only had limited support for a closed group of 500 users to run smart contracts. But Purple has opened Alonzo testing to all users.

Certainly, the implementation of the Alonzo hard fork will give Cardano (ADA) the means to challenge Ethereum, which is currently the world’s largest smart contracts platform. The upgrade will open the door for many applications, including the support for an ERC20 converter, giving room for ETH tokens to run on the network.

“Our community has been central to the progress made so far. We have now invited the 150+ strong test team to join the new Alonzo Purple network and a new Discord channel.”

It’s worth noting that Alonzo Purple is the third and final stage of the Alonzo hard fork, following the Blue and White phases. As soon as this is successfully deployed, it will be the first public testnet to support smart contracts.

After Alonzo White was deployed about a month ago, it started supporting smart contracts on Cardano, but for only a selected group of 500 users. It also started allowing the minting of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Cardano network will be opened to the full support for smart contracts by the end of August or early September. As soon as the upgrade is deployed successfully in early September as estimated, the network is expected to even start supporting an ERC20 converter.

The development of Cardano has been divided into five updates. According to the deployment order, Cardano is about to complete the Goguen era, which is the implementation of smart contracts. Based on the order, Basho will be the next update, followed by Voltaire.
