]]> Shiba Inu tokens in the custody of the top 100 Ethereum (ETH) whales have risen to 49 trillion, according to on-chain data. Cumulatively, this volume of tokens is worth $362,236,695 at the time of writing.

This increasing accumulation of the second-largest decentralized meme token by the top 100 ETH whales comes as SHIB’s price continues to trade low in the crypto market. Notably, the canine-themed crypto asset is changing hands at $0.00000762 at press time. 

Data on the popular analytic platform WhaleStats shows that SHIB is the fourth most-held cryptocurrency among the top 100 ETH whales in terms of dollar value, following Ether, USDC, and USDT. 

It bears noting that the average quantity of crypto assets held by these deep-pocketed investors includes 31,263 Ether (ETH), 7,888,146 Tether (USDT), 706,994,142 USD Coin (USDC) and  49,621,465,093,470 Shiba Inu (SHIB).

Is this bullish for Shiba Inu (SHIB)?

The recent accumulation of Shiba Inu by these top-ranking ETH whales could mean that these grounded investors expect an impressive run in the price of the asset. 

As published, SHIB’s price gained by over 22% in the past couple of days along with Bitcoin as several U.S. asset managers filed for Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Accordingly, over 29 trillion Shiba Inu tokens bought within a specified price range regained profitability. 

Recall that Shytoshi Kusama, the lead developer in the token community recently disclosed that the launch of all planned ecosystem projects including Shibarium and SHIB Metaverse is near.

Notably, the launch of these projects could draw more investors to SHIB, thereby triggering a rally in the price of the asset. Hence, the need to take a closer look at the Shiba Inu project to decipher whether it would perform outstandingly in the coming months.

According to WhaleStats, the tracker of holding activity among top Ethereum bag holders, the 5,000 largest Ethereum whales on record now hold 50,905,707,716,073 SHIB worth $735,034,573.

This whopping number has made Shiba Inu become the second-largest altcoin holding among Ethereum whales, right behind the biggest stablecoin Tether (USDT).

The rise of SHIB is also reflected in the growing number of large whale transactions of the memecoin in recent weeks.

A good example of such huge movements played over the weekend when a mysterious whale moved 3,216,307,240,798 SHIB worth $47.6 million to a wallet of unknown origin.

SHIB’s explosive rise in popularity has been somewhat attributed to the hype on the project’s plans to launch a layer-2 protocol known as Shibarium.

The protocol will be similar to scaling solutions like Polygon (MATIC) in functionality, allowing people to launch custom tokens on top of Shiba Inu, with gas fees paid for in Bone ShibaSwap (BONE).

The project’s launch date is uncertain, although developers have said they expect to release a beta version in the near future.

At the time of filing this report, SHIB is trading at $0.00001409, with a relatively 3.4% price downtrend in the last 24 hours.

As noted by Santiment in its recent report, Ethereum whales holding between $10.9 million to $1.09 billion worth of ETH grabbed $1.03 billion worth of ETH within 24 hours.

The activity represents the fifth-largest single-day purchase in the past year, according to Santiment.

Santiment tweeted, “Ethereum’s large whales (holding $10.9M to $1.09B) have added 947,940 more ETH yesterday worth ~$1.03B. This is the 5th largest single day add in the past year. The past 4 instances, ETH’s price vs. BTC rose an average of +3.2% the following 3 days.”

At the time of filing this report, ETH is trading at $1,163, with a 3.13% price upsurge in the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.

Santiment also noted that Bitcoin (BTC) price drop on Monday caused many traders to exit the crypto market.

“The BTC drop below $15.8k has caused many traders to finally exit the sector or liquidate assets. Bitcoin is seeing the lowest level of transactions made while in profit since Nov, 2019. Bounces typically occur when this metric is severely negative.”

Bitcoin dropped as low as $15,665 on Monday before rebounding slightly. At press time, BTC is trading at $16,457.

Santiment also said reported that Bitcoin’s address activity spiked to its highest level in six months over the weekend.

Behind Shiba Inu (SHIB) are a list of other tokens such as Ethereum’s scaling solution Polygon (MATIC), the native token of decentralized virtual world Decentraland (MANA), and the utility token of the Cronos (CRO) ecosystem.

Why The Sudden Increase?

The sudden increase in the number of Shiba Inu in the Ethereum whales’ portfolios can be attributed to the whopping purchase initiated by two whales, codenamed “Gimli,” and “BlueWhale0159”.

Between the 27th and 28th of July, the two ETH whales collectively accumulated a total of 1.06 trillion SHIB tokens worth $12.95 million at the time of purchase.

This increase in SHIB accumulation among Ethereum whales comes at a time when over 60% of Shiba Inu investors are at loss. At current prices, only 27% of SHIB holders are in profit, while just 4% are at the break-even level.

Data also show that about 26% of Shiba Inu holders have held the digital currency for over a year, while 70% have held the crypto between 1 to 12 months.

The first transaction moved 199,999,999,999 SHIB worth $2,075,999 at the time of purchase, while the second transaction carried 187,000,000,000 SHIB tokens worth $1,991,550. At the time of the second transaction, Gimli was ranked 248 among the biggest ETH whales.

BlueWhale0159 Purchased 147 Billion SHIB

Another Ethereum whale that made a whopping purchase of Shiba Inu (SHIB) in the last few hours is codenamed BlueWhale0159.

According to WhaleStats, the whale bought a total of 147 billion SHIB tokens worth $1,556,730 at the time of purchase and it’s currently ranked 373 among top ETH whales.

ETH whale “BlueWhale0159” just bought 147,000,000,000 SHIB ($1,556,730 USD). Ranked #373 on WhaleStats.”

So, the purchase made by BlueWhale0159 brings the total number of SHIB bought by ETH whales over the last 24 hours to 533,999,999,999 (534 Billion).

According to WhaleStats, the tracker of 5000 biggest Ethereum whales, an ETH whale identified as Gimli has recently initiated the purchase of 250 billion SHIB worth $2.7 million.

According to the whale tracker, the bag holder involved is ranked 235th among Ethereum whales.

WhaleStats tweeted, “ETH whale “Gimli” just bought 250,000,000,000 SHIB ($2,762,500 USD). Ranked #235 on WhaleStats.”

A closer look into Gimli’s wallet shows that it currently holds a number of other cryptocurrencies, including Decentraland (MANA), Chainlink (LINK), Enjin (ENJ), Basic Attention Token (BAT), USD Coin (USDC), Fantom (FTM).

As expected, Ethereum takes the largest share of the whale’s holdings. ETH represents 76% of its portfolio. With the latest SHIB purchase, SHIB now holds about 19%, while the rest of the coins mentioned above share 5% of Gimli’s portfolio.

BlueWhale0073 Buys 375 Billion SHIB Tokens

According to WhaleStats, BlueWhale0073 has initiated the purchase of another whopping 375.97 billion SHIB tokens worth $4.56 million to probably take advantage of the current situation in the crypto market.

According to the report, it took the whale a single transaction to initiate the huge purchase.

WhaleStats tweeted, “ETH whale “BlueWhale0073” just bought 375,977,961,547 SHIB ($4,568,132 USD). Ranked #329 on WhaleStats.”

The major capitulation that caused the major price dip in the crypto market started on the 9th of May 2022. This negative trend made Shiba Inu (SHIB) lose its previous support at $0.0000171 to trade as low as $0.0000095, representing about 46% price loss within a few days.

Despite the major sell-off, BlueWhale0073 has been specifically and relentlessly accumulating Shiba Inu tokens. And many within the Shiba Inu community believe that the whale is initiating the whopping buys to take advantage of low prices.

In another development reported by WhaleStats, Shiba Inu (SHIB) is number five among the top 10 purchased tokens by 2000 biggest Ethereum whales within the last 24 hours.

WhaleStats tweeted, “ETH whale “BlueWhale0073” just bought 219,332,229,787 SHIB ($5,454,792 USD). Ranked #5 on WhaleStats.”

Bombur Grabs 51.7 Billion SHIB

The second notable accumulation of SHIB within the last 24 hours was initiated by an Ethereum whale known as Bombur.

According to WhaleStats, the whale bought 51.7 billion SHIB tokens worth relatively $1.1 million at the time of purchase.

WhaleStats tweeted, “ETH whale “Bombur” just bought 51,799,991,288 SHIB ($1,178,967 USD).”

So, within the last 24 hours, the two Ethereum whales have managed to accumulate a total of 271,132,221,075 SHIB worth $6,633,759, in just two transactions.

Although Shiba Inu (SHIB) has been popular among top ETH whales before Robinhood listed SHIB, the interest increased drastically after the much-awaited listing.

WhaleStats also reported some hours ago that an Ethereum whale identified as BlueWhale0073 initiated the purchase of 86.6 billion worth $2.1 million at the time of purchase.

WhaleStats tweeted, “ETH whale “BlueWhale0073” just bought 86,679,001,529 SHIB ($2,111,500 USD).”

As recently reported by WhaleStats, the tracker of the top 5000 Ethereum whales, the 5th largest ETH whale recently accumulated 50.2 billion SHIB worth $1.2 million. Data also shows that the biggest 1000 Ethereum whales now hold $1.5 billion worth of SHIB tokens.

5th Largest Ethereum Whale Buys 50.2 Billion SHIB

According to WhaleStats, an Ethereum bag holder known as “BlueWhale007” accumulated 50,296,290,794 SHIB worth $1,269,981 at the time of purchase in a single transaction.

WhaleStats tweeted, “ETH whale “BlueWhale0073” just bought 50,296,290,794 SHIB ($1,269,981 USD). Ranked #5 on WhaleStats.”

A closer look into the whale’s wallet shows that he has been expressly accruing SHIB since 13th April 2022. The record shows that the whale now has a total of 1.40 trillion SHIB, worth $36,932,864 via five transactions.

The whale’s massive accumulation since the 13th of April can simply be attributed to the inclusion of Shiba Inu (SHIB) on the popular investing app Robinhood.

Ethereum Whales Now Hold $1.5 Billion Worth of SHIB

As shared by the blockchain analytics firm, Shiba Inu (SHIB) is the biggest coin held by the top 1000 ETH whales. Collectively, the whales in this category currently hold $1,503,544,804 worth of SHIB tokens. As always, FTX token occupies the second position.
