In a recent post, crypto commentator X Finance Bull (@Xfinancebull) revealed that Ripple had entered a major trade finance market through a central bank initiative.

The post referred to Ripple’s participation in a Singapore program designed to modernize trade settlement using blockchain infrastructure and regulated digital assets.

This new development in Singapore’s trade finance sector is placing blockchain settlement infrastructure into a regulated pilot tied to cross-border commerce.

The initiative connects tokenized bank liabilities, regulated stablecoins, and automated payment execution. The structure focuses on settlement efficiency, liquidity access, and financing workflows for businesses operating across Asia’s trade corridors.

XRP Ledger and RLUSD are now part of Singapore's central bank pilot for cross-border trade settlement.

Singapore Central Bank Pilot Integrates XRP

Ripple confirmed in a press release that it joined the Monetary Authority of Singapore initiative known as BLOOM. The program focuses on extending settlement capabilities using tokenized bank liabilities and regulated stablecoins. According to the announcement, Ripple is partnering with Unloq to pilot programmable settlement infrastructure for trade finance.

The press release states that the system integrates trade obligations, settlement conditions, and financing workflows into a unified execution layer. The global trade finance market is valued at about $3.8 trillion, placing this pilot inside one of the largest financial sectors in the world.

The infrastructure uses the XRP Ledger and Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD, described in the document as a “trusted, enterprise-grade stablecoin, designed for enterprise use cases.”

Automated Settlement Changes Trade Finance Timing

The pilot targets a long-standing issue in trade finance. Businesses often wait weeks before receiving payment after shipping goods. The new system uses smart contracts to trigger payment immediately after shipment verification. That structure improves cash flow timing and reduces settlement delays.

X Finance Bull wrote that the initiative enables automatic RLUSD payment after shipment conditions are verified. Singapore plays a major role in global trade flows and cross-border currency activity, with a daily volume of $336 billion.

The country serves as a financial gateway to Southeast Asia and handles large volumes of international trade settlements. The Asia-Pacific region handles about 40% of global cross-border payment volume. This makes the region one of the most important trade corridors in the global economy.

What This Means for XRP

The pilot directly involves XRP through the XRP Ledger infrastructure. The system uses XRPL for settlement execution while RLUSD handles stablecoin payments. This structure positions XRP inside a regulated trade finance infrastructure tied to real commercial transactions.

The Ripple announcement states the platform aims to demonstrate a viable model for interoperable settlement infrastructure in Singapore’s financial system. The integration of tokenized funds, stablecoins, and automated settlement workflows shows how blockchain infrastructure can operate inside traditional financial frameworks.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) recently granted Ripple Markets Asia Pacific In-Principle approval to grow the On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) solution in Singapore. This permission allows XRP to be used in ODL transactions, enabling faster and more efficient cross-border payments.

XRP Will Be Utilized

Bill Morgan, an Australian-based lawyer, questioned if the new license would allow for the use of XRP in ODL transactions. According to pro-XRP lawyer John E. Deaton, the usage of XRP in ODL transactions is legal under the new license.

The In-Principle license places Ripple in a select group of fewer than 20 companies that have earned such a license from the government. While this is major news, it did not cause the price of XRP to rise as expected.

Despite the fact that all XRP holders are in a joint venture with Ripple and rely on the company’s performance to make money, the coin’s price has not reacted to the news. Instead, it has continued to follow Bitcoin’s and the macroenvironmental developments.

For the record, this news from @Ripple is fairly significant. Less than 20 companies have received such a license in Singapore and XRP will be utilized. Yet, #XRP doesn’t move up, even a little. If all XRP holders in the are in a common enterprise with Ripple and relying on… https://t.co/TIakLamh0c

— John E Deaton (@JohnEDeaton1) June 22, 2023

While XRP rose slightly to 0.52 from 0.50 in the early hours of the release, most crypto assets gained somewhat as well. The ongoing SEC litigation against Ripple adds to the uncertainties surrounding XRP’s prospects.

Despite the absence of price movement, MAS certification is a key milestone for Ripple because it allows ODL transactions in Singapore to leverage XRP. With this approval, the ODL solution will be able to facilitate faster and more cost-effective cross-border settlements.

Read Also: Ripple Announces New On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) In Japan

Deaton emphasized the significance of Ripple’s freshly gained In-Principle certification from MAS in a tweet, adding that just about 20 businesses in Singapore have such a license.

However, he went on to say that XRP has continued to follow Bitcoin’s and the macro environment’s developments. While Deaton’s tweet did not contain any new information, it did highlight the viewpoint of a pro-XRP lawyer on Ripple’s In-Principle clearance and the present state of XRP’s price movement.

Amid the uncertainty of crypto regulation in the United States, Ripple, the San Francisco-based cross-border payments firm, has secured in-principle approval of an application for a Major Payments Institution from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

According to the report, this new development will allow a local subsidiary to offer regulated digital payment token products and services in the country.

With this approval, Ripple will be able to further scale the use of its crypto-enabled On-Demand Liquidity service.

It should be noted that the ODL platform allows financial institutions to instantly send money across borders using XRP as a bridge currency. This implies that the digital token XRP is fully involved in this new development.

Reacting to the new development, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse noted:

“Singapore continues to be a global leader in establishing clear rules of the road to recognize the innovation and real-world utility of digital assets, and its benefits to the global financial system.”

Stu Alderoty, Chief Legal Officer at Ripple, also said:

“As more countries develop regulatory frameworks for crypto, many are looking to Singapore’s early leadership in developing a clear taxonomy and licensing framework. This in-principle regulatory approval from the MAS will enable us to better support our forward-looking customers looking to hone in on blockchain and crypto technologies to build a more inclusive and borderless financial system.

In a statement with The Block, Stu Alderoty said it took the firm a few critical steps to get the final approval from Singapore.

The crypto exchange has been sending notices to its customers in the affected countries, stating that the change will take effect in early April.

As expected, the move has been greeted with tons of backlashes from Coinbase users. Many believe that this will force tons of users to abandon the heavily centralized exchange.

According to a survey conducted by a US-based cryptocurrency exchange, Gemini, Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin (BTC), and Cardano (ADA) currently top the list of crypto investments of choice among adults in Singapore.

It’s becoming obvious that the increase in the scrutiny of crypto across the world is indirectly boosting its popularity globally. Many are now interested in knowing what crypto investment is all about and why it’s vastly gaining traction.

Also, the crisis the world is currently facing has kept boosting its popularity, fulfilling the major reason for its creation, which is to serve as a hedge against any financial crisis. However, not all cryptocurrencies in the market are enjoying this boost in popularity.

The Break Down of the Survey Conducted By Gemini

According to the report, the survey involved over 4,300 adults. From this number, 67% have invested in at least one cryptocurrency, and 79% of them are men. The survey says 80.2% of the crypto holders are below the age of 34.

Only 20% of the crypto holders are women, while 12% of the holders earned between $55,000 and $75,000. And just 0.2% of them are above 65.

The survey went further to say that Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, tops the list of cryptocurrencies of choice in Singapore, as 78% of crypto holders in the country currently hold the digital asset. Bitcoin (BTC) is a little below Ethereum (ETH) with 69%.

Cardano (ADA), the rapidly growing cryptocurrency, makes up 40% of crypto holders in Singapore. It can be recalled that Cardano has been top-performing crypto for the past couple of days. It also gained more traction after breaking above $2 for the first time since May.

It’s worthy of note that the coronavirus pandemic made many Singaporeans invest in cryptocurrency as earlier mentioned.

The report reads in part as follows:

“The Covid-19 pandemic have spurred more Singaporeans to invest in crypto…

“One possibility for this could be that investors are getting increasingly educated on crypto, accelerated by the rise of the digital economy during the pandemic. Some may also view cryptocurrency as a good way to hedge against inflation.”
