Raoul Pal’s Thoughts About Ripple

Raoul Pal thinks there’s this strange historical account about Ripple. The point is that Ripple genuinely has a significant role, even if they have to settle a lawsuit and get a warning. It is a network that transfers money and does an excellent job at it. It has a close relationship with international governments and has put much effort into it.

There is a reason the chain is valued so highly, and it isn’t due to speculative reasons since the lawsuit prompted it to be pulled down from several exchanges. It’s because a lot of value gets transacted on the chain when he uses Metcalfe’s Law model. It is being used.

According to Pal, if the world moves toward a CBDC-based global economy, the XRP network has a real chance of being at the core of it all.

He believes that once the legal problem is resolved, there is a good chance that the chain’s value will increase markedly, and as the world goes toward central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), he believes that the XRP Network will be at the core of all of that.

Pal is aware that it is not the fad of the moment for many people, but he believes it to be a major player in a significant niche.

Raoul Pal noted:

“There’s this weird narrative from the past about Ripple. The point being is, even if they have to settle a lawsuit and get a slap on the wrist, Ripple plays actually quite an important role. It’s a money transmission network and it does quite a good job of it. It has deep connections with global governments around the world and has worked really hard on it. 

“So there’s a reason the chain is valued as highly as it is, and it’s not from speculation because actually it got taken off a whole bunch of exchanges because of the lawsuit. It’s actually because when I use my Metcalfe’s Law model, the amount of value that gets transacted on the chain is very high. It’s being used…

“So I think if you lift the legal issue, the probability is that the value of the chain increases significantly and as the world moves towards central bank digital currencies, I think the XRP Network is going to be somewhere at the center of all of that…

“I know it’s not the flavor of the day for a lot of people but I think it’s a big player, it’s a real player and a real niche.”

In a recent interview on Crypto Banter, the crypto proponent Raoul Pal said although the flagship cryptocurrency can outperform ETH when it comes to total trading volume and number of wallets, Ethereum has found a way to beat Bitcoin over the last few years.

“If you think of Bitcoin, Bitcoin exchanges more value each week than Ethereum does. Ethereum has a lot of transactions. Transactions are a red herring. It’s total value and number of active wallets and Bitcoin beats both.

However, if you look at Ethereum, the change in values, the rates of change in those two values in Ethereum is higher, which is why Ethereum’s been outperforming Bitcoin over the last couple of years, and I found it’s really useful. It shows what price is and price is pretty good.”

“If you believe the future is in the technology, in blockchain technology, then this whole digital asset space should outperform the safe haven. That’s just how things work. It always works that way and therefore, there’s a higher beta…

Pal’s new numbers are based on data from Crypto.com, the World Bank, and Global Macro Investor. He believes that crypto-assets are growing at a pace than the internet.

The macroeconomic expert stated that if the growth of the crypto economy slows to the same pace as the internet, the crypto industry would have relatively 5 billion users by 2030.

In a series of tweets, Raoul Pal noted:

“2021 was an accelerating growth year and the Reed’s Law effect of networks built upon networks creating even more exponentiality is clear. But year six after the first five million users, crypto has 295 million participants and the internet had 119 million.

Crypto is growing at 137% a year while the internet grew at 76%. As I always say, this is the fastest adoption of technology the world has ever seen.”

“Using the 76% growth rate (suggesting a near halving of network growth as network matures), we now get to 5 billion users by 2030.

I.E. it becomes THE dominant source of owning, transferring and recording value and contractual terms global. Wow!”

Valuation Model For Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Polkadot

According to Pal, he has designed a sure way to determine the value of a given crypto network by multiplying the number of daily transaction volumes in dollars, by the number of active users.

He pointed out that his equation remarkably tracks the market capitalization of Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), and Polkadot (DOT).

He added that Ethereum may eventually flip Bitcoin in terms of market capitalization if its decentralized application (DApp) sector gains notable adoption.

“Each chain creates value for different reasons – BTC for pristine collateral, security and store of value brings large numbers of users transferring large sums of value. Hence why it is the most valuable network.

But ETH has more applications and the transaction value per monthly user is broadly in line with BTC. Thus, if ETH attracts more users over time, it will flippen BTC in market cap (not that it matters as we are comparing apples with oranges! Both have different value/uses).”

Raoul Pal: Bitcoin (BTC) Could Reach $600,000

Raoul Pal also considered rates of adoption going forward to predict the future price of Bitcoin (BTC)

“Assuming BTC remains one standard deviation below trend it gives a price target of $600,000. If it slows to two standard deviations below trend, then you get a number of around $300,000.

Maybe the regression trend should be taken from 2013 to avoid the very early spike. That gives slower growth and lower targets. That gives trend at $700,000, one standard deviation [above] at $350,000 and two standard deviations at $200,000.”

In a new interview with Thinking Crypto, the former Goldman Sachs executive says that he primarily started out as a Bitcoin (BTC) investor then switched most of his BTC into Ethereum (ETH).

Pal says he then built a basket of 10 equally weighted large-cap altcoins. He later added Solana (SOL) to his portfolio as well.

In an interview a few days ago, the Real Vision CEO stated that 82% of his portfolio is in ETH.

In his new interview with Thinking Crypto, he said that one of the smaller crypto assets he owns has seen such a significant surge in price that it’s ballooned into becoming his second-largest holding.

“What’s fascinating is my second-largest holding now, from an equally weighted basket, second to Ethereum, is Sandbox.

I’m bought in, it just went up 20x in the last month and a half, which is crazy.

I mean I would not take that position, second-largest position in Sandbox, but that’s where it is, and I’m not rebalancing for the time being.”

The Sandbox (SAND) is an Ethereum-based virtual world that allows fans of video games to build, own and monetize their gaming experiences. The project’s native token, SAND, is used to transfer value, secure the network, and govern the protocol.

Pal also mentions that he bet on the Ethereum-powered decentralized virtual gaming world Decentraland (MANA). Decentraland’s native token, MANA, is used as a means of exchange.

The Real Vision CEO says he has also bet on a handful of decentralized finance (DeFi) projects, including the lending protocol Aave (AAVE), the decentralized exchange Uniswap (UNI), and the smart contract platform Polkadot (DOT).

Additionally, Pal notes that he’s made a couple of bets on social tokens, including Chiliz and Rally.

Chiliz (CHZ) is a platform for tokenizing sports and esports in order to encourage fan engagement.

Rally (RLY) is a decentralized network that enables creators and brands to monetize their content and offer community benefits.

Pal also says he owns XRP, citing the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) lawsuit against the payments company Ripple as a primary factor.

“It got heavily discounted in the price, and then I looked at it and thought, ‘Well, what’s it going to do? Fall 100% from here to zero? But if it gets solved, it’s [up] 10x.’ And I’m like, ‘Well that’s a no-brainer.’ Why would you not take a 10-1 risk/reward that has a catalyst around it?”

In late December 2020, U.S. SEC filed a lawsuit alleging Ripple for the unauthorized sales of XRP deemed as an unregistered security. The case, which has lasted for about a year, is expected to extend into 2022 before it’s brought to conclusion.

According to Raoul Pal, the hope for his position in the digital token XRP rests entirely on the outcome of the legal tussle between Ripple, the San-Francisco based payment firm, and the SEC:

“It’s all about this court case, right? Because the price can’t go anywhere – it got delisted from everywhere. It can’t go anywhere until it’s resolved, because the richest, most powerful country on Earth is not allowed easily to invest in it.”

Meanwhile, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse had, in a November interview with CNBC, showcased his optimism of seeing the end of the lawsuit in the coming year.

In early August, the founder of Real Vision referred to Ethereum as the greatest trade due to the impact of Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 1559 on the network:

“Basically, there’s 13% of all the free float of Ethereum available. Everything else is being staked, locked and hoarded. They’ve just made the supply more difficult. The supply is lower.”

Bitcoin (BTC) On the Cusp of a Meteoric Rise in the Coming Days

As for Bitcoin (BTC), Raoul Pal stated that a significant upsurge in the coming days is on the cards. He then mentioned two catalysts that he thinks will aid the rally of the first and largest cryptocurrency:

“I’ve also mapped the Bitcoin price versus Bitcoin 2013. They look pretty similar. There’s a bunch of other ways I’d do it with Bitcoin with log charts, regression analysis, stuff like that. Generally speaking, I think it’s somewhere between $250,000 to $400,000, with an outside chance of a million [dollars] if we get an extended cycle.

“Don’t forget, they usually go up 5 to 10x in the last three months of the year. We haven’t even got to the all-time high, but let’s say Bitcoin goes up 5x from the $60,000 high. That’s $350,000. That would be a very normal rally for year-end, considering we’re about to have an ETF (exchange-traded fund).

“And if I’m right, we might see the central bank pivoting to more printing. They may not print more money this year, but they’ll start talking about it. Those two things alone are enough to drive Bitcoin to $350,000.”

According to Raoul Pal, upcoming Ethereum upgrades will drastically reduce ETH’s supply and significantly boost the rate of using its network.

The much-awaited London hard fork is expected to play out on 4th August 2021. EIP-1559 is also a big upgrade that will launch along with the London hard fork on 4th August. This upgrade will make Ethereum become a deflationary asset, due to the fact that ETH transaction fees will either be burnt or saved into a long-term mining pool.

Raoul Pal, in his conversation on The Defiant, is of the opinion that the upcoming transition to a proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus mechanism will make Ethereum (ETH) more environmentally friendly.

He also predicted that the upcoming upgrades will bring institutional investors to the world’s largest smart contracts platform:

“It feels like we’re in for the double pump. The 2013 repeat.”    

Real Vision CEO further noted that he has increased his exposure to Ethereum as much as he reduced his exposure to Bitcoin.

“And then I broadened that out and increased my Ethereum exposure by about October thinking that Ethereum was actually going to massively outperform for a couple of years.”
