Alongside cryptocurrencies, blockchain technologies have opened up another realm of digital assets — NFTs. Tokens have become widespread, and investing in them is often profitable. You can do this in a classic way by exchanging regular currency for tokens or earning NFTs in mining games like Chainers. In the latter case, you are more likely to gain profit rather than waste your time or money. So, if you’re interested in investment or cryptocurrencies, it’s the right time to learn about all the nuances of investing in NFTs.

A Close Look: What Are Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)?

NFTs are a unique type of digital asset with no exact market price, as they have no asset of equal value. This is because each NFT is one-of-a-kind, unlike common banknotes, which have a specific circulation, and one banknote can be easily replaced with another. Another feature of NFTs is their blockchain nature and representation in the form of various digital creations. These can include memes, videos, music files, in-game items, and other items that essentially make up a virtual collection. Typically, virtual objects can be copied countless times, but this contradicts the “non-fungibility” characteristic, so each NFT object is marked as an original. This creates scarcity, and thus, if you own, for example, a meme or in-game items, you become their owner. In terms of profit model and value formation, NFTs resemble cryptocurrencies, which is why these two concepts are often considered together. Most often, tokens are based on smart contracts created on the Ethereum blockchain, which also offers users the cryptocurrency of the same name.

How Does the Process of Buying a Token Work from a Technical Perspective?

When purchasing an NFT, the transaction is recorded in the blockchain ledger. Since tokens have unique digital signatures, this serves as a guarantee of the asset’s authenticity. However, tokens should not be confused with cryptocurrencies, which represent a slightly different technology. It is more of a conditional certificate for a particular contract. For example, you can use this method to buy tickets for concerts, exhibitions, or other events or to donate to your favorite artists and performers. In essence, the token may not have a monetary value. This is why it’s not always a profitable format for investment. The token’s value may not increase, and you should assess the risks or understand the reasons for such an investment before purchasing. If you simply want to obtain original rights to a specific digital artwork, it’s a great way. If you are investing and planning to profit from it, you must evaluate all the risks.

Value Formation of Tokens

As mentioned earlier, tokens do not have an actual intrinsic value and are considered non-fungible assets. However, that does not mean your tokens will never appreciate in value. The value of this asset is based on “viewer sympathy,” much like cryptocurrencies. In other words, a token is worth as much as people are willing to pay for it. Therefore, popularity and promotion on social media are crucial. For example, Dogecoin became valuable because it was popularized by Elon Musk, and even those who had never heard of tokens before started talking about its release.

Investment Rules

You can purchase tokens on specialized exchanges like Rarible, OpenSea, Nifty Gateway, and other similar platforms. To successfully carry out the operation, you must create a digital wallet or use an integrated one (this option is available on some exchanges, such as Coinbase). Find the token you intend to purchase and pay for it just as you would for any other online purchase. Done! Now, you own an NFT, which will be stored in your crypto wallet after the purchase. Later, you can sell it if its value increases. To sell, you will need to upload the token to the market, set a price, or sell it at an auction. Token resale is carried out using smart contract technology.

Remember the importance of diversifying your assets in case your tokens do not become more valuable, as this can help minimize your risks.

Charles Hoskinson, the CEO of Input Output and the founder of one the largest smart contract platforms Cardano blockchain has recently communicated his interests and plans for the non-fungible token sector. Meanwhile, he encouraged the adoption of the technology, stating that NFTs can be securitized and used as a revenue source.

In a Monday Twitter Space hosted by the ADA creator alongside William Hoskinson, Charles Hoskinson noted that the growth of the NFT space is astonishing and massive. “To be honest with you, I am surprised by the growth and scale of the NFT space. It’s gone from nothing to very substantial in a very short period of time,” he remarked.

Owing to this, the IOG Chief disclosed that he plans to delve into the space as he believes the technology can only continue to expand. In his words, “what I want to do is just get involved with the high-level, you know, metaverse, GameFi, and something related to collectibles and then watch how those things evolve. And then I’ll worry about things like governance, interoperability, and these types of things and sort of let the commercial people figure out different ways to make money.”

“A lot of what is at the end of the rainbow is going to be complex intellectual property negotiations. License deals. Like, we’ve had some discussions about how you represent a patent portfolio as an NFT. How you can sell the rights to the portfolio and then how that can turn into interest-earning future profits on that,” he added.

Read Also: Cardano Founder States What Would Happen if the SEC Tags ADA a Security

According to him, the non-fungible world is larger than the fungible world, citing that NFTs find relevancy in all facets of life. Particularly, Charles Hoskinson mentioned that in no distant time, the tokenization of brands will record a significant surge. “Tokenization of brands is also becoming increasingly more transparent, especially in a world where influencers and TikTok people, I think, are going to be the first wave to tokenize their brands,” he said.

Furthermore, the Cardano blockchain founder stated, “NFTs are useful for anything that you have a collection of or is connected to something beyond a standardization. So, for example, a deed of land, mineral rights, water rights; any notion of property rights.”

“In the GameFi [gaming and decentralized finance] space, any notion of your character progressing throughout the game, your activities within that game, the special powers that you accumulate, all the rewards that you accumulate – all these things can and should be tokenized at some level,” Hoskinson added.

In addition, he noted that NFTs can also represent experiences, and achievements, like diplomas, and credentials. In buttressing this point, he commented thus, “Obviously, if you went to medical school and graduated, that’s specific to you. It’s not fungible – it’s specific. NFTs, as a format, I think in each of those areas, is useful.

Read Also: Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin Says XRP is “Completely Centralized” After Cardano Founder Slammed XRP Community

“So, it’s actually a larger space than the fungible world and you can securitize them. You can take anything that’s an NFT and turn it into something that’s associated with a revenue stream. We can securitize patents as a non-diluted way of guaranteeing capital for a business. If you’re a pharmaceutical company, for example, you have to sell stock. You can pre-sale part of your patent portfolio in anticipation of it generating money. There’s a lot of little stuff like that that can be done.”

It seems that the trend for weird and incredibly expensive pictures on the Internet will continue in 2022. Some titles offered on the market are true masterpieces similar to the greatest online slots NZ, while others are simple and sometimes even silly. In early August, it became known that the jewelry house Tiffany & Co. would release a collection of jewelry in the style of the NFT project CryptoPunk. And this isn’t the last company to invest in new technology from the world of cryptocurrencies.

Tiffany & Co

One of the most reputable jewelry companies on the market Tiffany & Co will release a limited edition collection of 250 pendants in the form of “crypto punk” – the eponymous NFT project. The jewelry house announced the upcoming release, titled NFTiff, on its official website.

The cost of one piece of jewelry will be 30 ETH or about $50,000 in equivalent currency at the time of the news. Moreover, only owners of NFT from CryptoPunk collection will be able to buy the pendant. It’s known that the main material of the jewelry is 18-karat gold. Over 80 details will be available to the buyer to design with individual preferences. There will be a total of at least 30 diamonds in the pendant.

Gucci

Gucci intends to accept ApeCoin as payment, associated with the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection. Payment with ApeCoin will be available in select U.S. stores. In the future, representatives of the company intend to expand this practice in other regions. Like Tiffany & Co, Gucci said that the development of technologies of non-exchangeable tokens is an important step in the direction of the Internet of the future Web 3.0.

Mercedes

Earlier this year, Mercedes teamed up with Art2People to release the Mercedes-Benz NFT, and even in a meta-universe. So if you can’t afford a normal Mercedes-Benz NFT, you can buy its digital version.

Lamborghini

Italian automaker Lamborghini, known for its expensive sports cars, announced a sale of its latest Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae this spring. Along with the legendary supercar, an NFT token was available to the buyer. In a sense, it turned out to be quite expensive tokens, because only one of the copies of the Aventador in a rare color was asked for 500 thousand dollars. A total of 600 cars were offered for sale.

Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola used NFTs to gamify a charity event. People were offered to buy tokens and, in return, get access to a virtual chest. Virtual merchandise prepared by the company fell out of it at random. The money raised from token sales was then donated to the Special Olympics World Wide Fund.

McDonald’s

The fast-food restaurant chain McDonald’s has been issuing its own NFT-tokens on various occasions for a long time. For example, the branch from France in April 2021 raffled off 20 animated images of food among subscribers on social networks. Well, the Chinese branch prepared for the 31st anniversary of the opening of the first restaurant McDonald’s in the country, with a large collection of tokens from 188 images.

VISA

The Visa payment system hasn’t stood aside either and has been interested in NFT technologies for a long time. Last year, they purchased CryptoPunk number 7610 for 49.5 ETH, which was about $150,000 at the time of the deal. For a CryptoPunk collection, though, this is clearly not a value record. For example, another CryptoPunk #7523 sold for $11.754 million.

Already this year Visa has launched an educational program in the field of NFT. It’s designed primarily for people in creative professions, such as artists, musicians, modeling professionals, and so on. In general, anyone who might be interested in creating content with non-interchangeable tokens.

Since his story first made it to the headlines in June 2021 after his physical artworks and NFTs sales made him the sum of $2.16 million at Christie’s auction house in New York, he has been able to garner even more attention and generated millions of dollars in NFT sales.

According to a press release shared with Market Tabloid, IOTA Foundation’s active community has built an almost feeless non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace, which just went live today on IOTA 2.0 DevNet.

According to the report, the initiative aims to provide a truly democratized, green, decentralized infrastructure for trading tokenized assets.

Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, were all the rage earlier this year, but high fees quickly cooled the public enthusiasm for this new form of digital assets. A single NFT transaction on Ethereum-based marketplaces can easily cost you $200 or more. As demand increases, so do the fees, which prevents wider adoption and stifles development.

The IOTA NFT marketplace also allows the general public to use the decentralized IOTA 2.0 DevNet for the first time in a broader use case.

Thanks to the community and IOTA DevNet 2.0’s capabilities, NFT creators and traders no longer have to face exorbitant transaction costs — apart from a negligible minting fee, kept low thanks to the IOTA Digital Assets Framework, and a commission set by the marketplace’s owner.

Tokenized assets are only beginning to take shape and gain popularity, and IOTA’s technology opens up the field to a variety of use cases. For example, tokens can have a royalty function, which entitles artists to a predetermined royalty payment whenever their work is resold. In addition, NFTs are great not only for selling digital art but also for the burgeoning collectibles market where tokenized assets can maintain reliable proof of ownership and copyright.

Currently available to test, the new, community-built IOTA NFT marketplace promises a more inclusive and accessible future for tokenized assets.
