On why he keeps holding Bitcoin, Cuban said the digital asset is a better store of value when diversification of investment is an option. He also discussed what he thinks could push Bitcoin to new price highs.

The Shark Tank investor also said Bitcoin (BTC) is operating as a digital form of Gold. So, he believes the crypto asset is a good choice for investment.

Mark Cuban noted:

Part of the challenge for Bitcoin is, even with the Lightning Network, improving and becoming more popular. There’s not enough utility, but that’s the same problem gold has. Nobody needs gold jewelry. People like gold jewelry and want it, but they don’t need it. So there’s a utility issue with Bitcoin but, that said, like gold, it’s a good store of value.

“It’s a better store of value when you’re trying to be diverse in your portfolio, and that’s why I own it. Because I think even though I have no idea where it’ll go, I have no idea how low it will go, but I do know that once there are applications with smart contracts not on Bitcoin but across crypto that regular people use and figure out, just like streaming was a better version of getting audio and video than traditional media was when there’s better reason to use crypto applications, that’s when it takes off.

“I always analogize Bitcoin as it’s a better version of gold. It’s a digital version of gold and I truly believe that.”

In a recent interview with CNBC’s “Make It”, Cuban pointed out that Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, is the altcoin with the most upside potential for investment.

Mark Cuban said:

“As an investment, I think Ethereum has the most upside.”

The billionaire made this known after he was asked about what digital asset he could recommend for new investors in the crypto industry.

Dallas Mavericks owner also told CNBC that Bitcoin was a “better gold than gold.”

Cuban went further to urge new investors to study the history of the crypto created out of meme, Dogecoin (DOGE), which he sees as an example of how the active social communities in the industry could drive prices and impact the market. He thereby recommended Dogecoin (DOGE) for fun.

In the report released by CNBC, it’s revealed that the billionaire has an extensive crypto portfolio, such as investments in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), among other altcoins, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and blockchain-powered companies.

Back in July, during an interview with CNBC’s “Make It”, a fellow investor based in Canada, Kevin O’Leary, also known as Mr. Wonderful said:

“I think there’s a difference between Dogecoin and let’s say USDC or Bitcoin or Ethereum or Solana… Within my own team, we have done a deep dive into crypto and we see value there in certain aspects of that market.

“We’ve increased our weighting to almost 10% of our book of our operating company into various cryptocurrencies, including USDC, Bitcoin, Ethereum, as I mentioned.”

In a tweet on 27th August 2021, Mark Cuban announced that Dallas Mavericks is giving away e-gift cards to crypto users as part of its newly launched “Cryptomania” campaign.

According to Cuban, anyone who buys at least $150 worth of the Mavs’ merch in a single transaction with one of the listed digital currencies, including Dogecoin (DOGE), will receive $25 e-gift card. The campaign is meant to last until the end of 2021.

Dallas Mavericks Embraces Dogecoin (DOGE) and Crypto Industry

Back in March, Dallas Mavericks became the first NBA team to adopt Dogecoin (DOGE) as a payment method, which makes it possible to purchase tickets and merch with the most popular meme token.

This adoption of Dogecoin by the Mavs came two years after the team started accepting Bitcoin (BTC) with little success. In April 2020, Cuban revealed that Mavs only managed to garner $130 payment in Bitcoin (BTC), which is far below his expectation.

Mark Cuban noted:

“Now we’re taking Bitcoin—please, go buy everything in Bitcoin. I’m fine with that, right? I think we’ve brought in $130. That’s all the Bitcoin I own right now.”

However, the billionaire entrepreneur changed his stance on Bitcoin (BTC) and the crypto industry at large amid the crypto boom of early 2021. Mind you, before the vast adoption, Cuban had once said he would rather own bananas than Bitcoin.

In early April 2021, he said, “Younger generations are going to trust Bitcoin because gold has no utility in and of itself. What is gold good for? It’s good for nothing.”
