In a post on Saturday, December 14, Selkis targeted the two prominent Layer 1 blockchain ecosystems, dismissing their relevance and implying that they lack substantial users.

This criticism comes amid longstanding tensions between Selkis and supporters of XRP Ledger and Cardano, which are often the subject of debate in the broader crypto community despite being among the most established Layer 1 networks.

Ripple, XRP, and Controversy

The latest remarks follow backlash that Selkis received earlier on the same day for comments directed at Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty and the broader XRP community.

Responding to a post featuring Alderoty with former Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Selkis sought to challenge any suggestion of Ripple’s strong connections with Donald Trump’s political network. In his post, Selkis described XRP as “a piece of shit” and referred to Ripple as “the drowning victim of crypto,” further stoking tensions with the blockchain’s supporters.

Selkis’ attacks against XRP are not new. Over the years, he has criticized the network, labeling it a centralized blockchain. He argues that XRP primarily benefits Ripple insiders and has stated that Ripple’s association with political figures, particularly from the Trump administration, poses risks to the broader crypto industry.

Cardano Excluded from Messari’s Report

Cardano, another target of Selkis’ criticism, has faced similar dismissive comments from the Messari co-founder. The rift between Selkis and the Cardano community intensified in recent months after the network was excluded from Messari’s widely circulated Crypto Theses 2024 report.

This 200-page document, which highlights trends and projects of economic significance, omitted Cardano because it did not meet Messari’s benchmark for economic activity.

The decision drew strong reactions from the Cardano community, which pushed back on Selkis’ claims that the network lacked meaningful utility or user engagement. Critics highlighted recent data to counter his arguments.

For instance, a community note posted on X emphasized that on December 12, Cardano processed over 280,000 transactions—roughly 20% to 60% of the daily transaction volume of Bitcoin and Ethereum—despite having only a fraction of their market capitalization.

Despite Selkis’ repeated criticisms, the XRP Ledger and Cardano remain key players in the Layer 1 blockchain landscape. Supporters of both networks continue to highlight their unique attributes and progress, even as debates around their adoption and value persist.

Selkis’ remarks reflect broader disagreements within the crypto space regarding the purpose, utility, and future of various blockchain projects.

While the Messari co-founder maintains his stance, recent transaction data and network activity suggest that XRP and Cardano are far from inactive, as their communities challenge detractors.

In an early Monday tweet, Hoskinson drew the attention of his followers and ADA investors to the email-impersonation approach adopted by scammers to extort unsuspecting users of their funds. As part of the notification, the IOG CEO stressed that he will never email any ADA investor directly to demand funds or anything related to that.

“Just a reminder that I’ll never email you directly. Every day scumbag piece of shit scammers impersonate me attempting to steal money from you,” Hoskinson roared. 

The Cardano blockchain architect further shared a snapshot of an email sent to a user by a scammer using his credentials. In the email, the impersonator presented the Health and Wellness Clinic launched by the Hoskinson family in May 2023, inviting the user to look into a certain “medical chain” claimed to be the first medical multichain on the Cardano blockchain. The impersonator further implied that the seemingly fake medical multichain project is in alliance with the Hoskinson Health and Wellness Clinic. 

The scammer wrote, “As part of my vision to develop the Cardano Ecosystem in the Health care sector, we have Hoskinson Health and Wellness Clinic and also a medical blockchain initiative that piques my interest as I find it very appealing. The idea that medical transfer is not swift has caused the loss of lives, I have spoken about this in my past videos.”

“We have this project alliance as the first medical multichain on the Cardano blockchain when such projects are at their peak, you can imagine the impact they would have on the ecosystem and life in general. I don’t want to bore you with many details, although I will recommend you look into this medical chain as you keep buying more Ada in good faith.”

Hoskinson, who disapproved of such an email, noted that ADA community members should always ask for extra verification to avoid leaking crucial data to cyberpunks. He wrote, “If you think you’re talking with me, then ask the person to verify his identity with a signature from my PGP key. They can’t.” A Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) key is a public encryption key used to encrypt and sign emails, directories, and files.

It bears noting that hackers could take any form to dupe unsuspecting users including the use of phishing emails and websites. Therefore, crypto users should be alert to detect any scam approach and be wary of clicking on untrusted links. Notably, Hoskinson’s Health and Wellness Clinic which was launched on May 26 accepts payments in ADA. This increases the count of businesses supporting and accepting payments in ADA.

State of the Cardano Developer Ecosystem Survey

The Cardano Developer Ecosystem survey introduced by the Cardano Foundation launches today and has come to stay. As announced, the first edition of this survey exercise is underway to be ended on July 26. In other words, this survey is open for two weeks to allow community members to participate fully. 

Cardano Foundation believes that an active, diversified, vibrant, and well-informed community is key to building a stronger and more effective blockchain project or system. For this reason and more, the Swiss-based non-profit Foundation continuously strengthens its commitment to empowering the Cardano community by staging growth-centered activities like the developer ecosystem survey. 

Particularly, the survey is aimed at collecting feedback directly from the community for the Foundation to gain full knowledge of what the developers’ needs and wants are. In consequence, the information and feedback gathered will then pinpoint the key areas requiring improvement.

Beyond assessing the developer ecosystem, the survey is designed to also play the function of revealing to Cardano developers and the entire community various standing projects that have been overlooked. 

Per the announcement, the survey will specifically help the Cardano Foundation to specify which libraries and tools are critical to the Cardano ecosystem, while also uncovering the loopholes in the existing tools and libraries. 

“It will similarly aid in pinpointing possible deficiencies in existing solutions. Moreover, the survey’s findings will assist us in organizing, coordinating, and prioritizing more efficiently the open-source effort amongst builders, so that we may work together towards an even stronger ecosystem,” part of the announcement said. 

Following the completion of the survey will be the result analysis. Thereafter, a follow-up report will be published publicly and made available for anyone interested in consulting it. 

As aforestated, the Annual State of the Developer Ecosystem System survey has come to stay in the Cardano community. In accordance, the Cardano Foundation wrote;

“Going forward, we expect to conduct annual surveys in order to correctly assess what has been achieved, which measures prompted advantageous results, what these were, and which areas still warrant attention.”

“Furthermore, the results will be shared publicly so that actions can be taken not only by the Foundation itself but by anyone willing to make open source contributions or otherwise aid the improvement of the ecosystem.”

The Foundation urges interested persons to participate in the survey here.

Cardano Mainnet Vasil Upgrade Approaches

This growth-centered activity comes while the community is still anticipating one of the biggest events on the Cardano blockchain – Vasil hardfork. The impending upgrade is aimed at improving the capabilities and functionalities of the Cardano blockchain.

Meanwhile, Cardano investors are getting well-positioned by accumulating more ADA tokens as they expect a price rebound to happen.

According to ADA Whale, he was of the opinion that there will be issues but Cardano will still welcome lots of decentralized applications (Dapps) in the first half of the year 2022.

In the same thread of tweets, the diehard Cardano fan stated that the growth and development recorded by the blockchain project this year has justified his stance.

Meanwhile, Cardano has earmarked 11 different ways to scale in 2022, which include but are not limited to improvements in memory and CPU parameters for Plutus, block size increases, pipelining, input endorsers, node enhancements, on-disk storage, sidechains, the Layer 2 Hydra scaling solution, offloading computation and the Mithril solution.

Also, Cardano creator Charles Hoskinson recently shared that there has been a 369% rise in the daily on-chain transaction volume for Cardano as compared to other chains that had notable declines in this aspect.

In late May 2021, Cardano (ADA) hit its previous all-time high of one million. On 1st January, the Cardano community had only 203,519 ADA wallets. This indicates that the number of ADA wallets surged by 5 folds within five months and has grown by another 1 million wallets between 23rd May and 2nd November 2021.

Meanwhile, the price of Cardano (ADA) surged massively to hit a new all-time high of $3.10 on 2nd September prior to the implementation of smart contracts on the Cardano network through the launch of Alonzo on the mainnet.
