One of XRP’s most prominent figures had something to say about the new account representing the digital asset on X.
David Schwartz, Ripple’s CTO Emeritus and co-architect of the XRP Ledger, responded to the XRP account’s debut post with a playful question: “Time for the Grateful Dead to create an @XRP song?”
The remark carries a layer of history. Schwartz is not publicly known as a Grateful Dead fan himself, but the band has a genuine connection to Ripple’s story.
Ripple acquired its domain, ripple.com, from a Grateful Dead fan who had registered it years earlier because of the band’s song “Ripple.” That connection has been part of Ripple’s lore ever since.

XRP Makes its X Debut
XRP launched its official X account on October 19, under the handle @XRP. Its first post read: “hello, world. It’s about time.” The account is jointly managed by Ripple and the XRP Ledger Foundation. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse also welcomed it.
The account amassed tens of thousands of followers within hours of going live, and had almost 87k followers at press time. Before this, the community often engaged with the official Ripple account, its executives, or with the Cashtags introduced to X earlier in the year. Despite XRP’s status as one of the most recognized digital assets in the world, it had no dedicated official X presence before today.
Schwartz’s Reaction
Schwartz’s post responded directly to the @XRP account’s debut. He quoted the new account’s first message and posed his Grateful Dead question to his followers. The joke landed well, given the band’s existing tie to Ripple’s origin story.
It also shows Schwartz maintaining his presence in the XRP community following his transition away from the CTO role at the end of 2025.
The Community Runs With It
The XRP community picked up on Schwartz’s post and took it further. One user referenced the Grateful Dead song “Bertha,” mentioning seeing what’s going down and reading between the lines. Another said the community already had an anthem ready for Schwartz, sharing a link to an XRP song created months earlier.
Multiple community members shared AI-generated Grateful Dead songs about XRP. The community often turns to AI to generate media concerning XRP and its history. One community member argued that it would be a better fit for an XRP holder to make the XRP anthem.
The Grateful Dead link to Ripple has existed since the company’s earliest days, but the responses go beyond that. It shows a community very excited for another way to engage with XRP.
