Garlinghouse is a Kansas alumnus. He grew up in Topeka and earned an economics degree at KU before his MBA at Harvard opened doors in Silicon Valley. The partnership goes beyond branding.

Secrecy Came Up Again and Again

A cluster of replies focused on silence. One commenter said nobody currently knows he holds XRP. He stated that he is “so ashamed” of his crypto involvement that discretion would continue even after a windfall. Another said he vanished years ago and that staying quiet should be the obvious response.

A third offered a two-step plan. Find a notary to finalize a trust, then stay quiet for two weeks to a month before bringing in a partner to finalize strategy.

Prioritizing Family and Debts

Several replies skipped the fantasy entirely and went practical. One person said he’d use the money to pay off debt, adding that he would settle for a 1,000x return given he only holds £100 worth of XRP.

Another described plans to take his mother on a world cruise, but only tell the two people for whom he currently holds XRP. One respondent described securing an inheritance plan for their family as a first move, sharing the same sentiment as many others who want to ‘retire’ their family through XRP.

Skepticism Ran Through the Thread Too

Not every reply played along. One person compared the scenario to landing on Mars tomorrow, suggesting the feat is unattainable. Another pointed out that in reality, XRP is closer to $1.58 than $158, suggesting an impossible dream.

Crypto analyst Xaif Crypto highlighted the filings showing the sizeable XRP holdings reported by two Seoul City Council members.

According to Xaif Crypto’s X post, a South Korean lawmaker disclosed owning 519,004 XRP in an official asset filing, while her son was reported to hold an additional 3,336 XRP.

The analyst also noted that another Seoul council member declared ownership of more than 409,000 XRP, presenting the filings as another example of XRP’s growing presence among individuals in public office.

Official Filings Detail Crypto Portfolios

According to the information, Seoul City Council member Kim Hye-young reported virtual assets worth approximately 1.706 billion won, making the lawmaker the largest reported holder of digital assets among the officials listed.

The filing states that Kim personally held 16 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and other digital assets, while also reporting Ethereum owned by a spouse. The disclosure further listed 519,004 XRP under Kim’s name and another 3,336 XRP owned by the lawmaker’s eldest son.

The documents also identified Seoul City Council member Choi Min-kyu as the official with the second-largest reported virtual asset holdings, valued at roughly 1.621 billion won. According to the filing, Choi reported owning approximately 409,551 XRP along with several other digital assets.

Xaif Crypto presented these disclosures as evidence that XRP has joined the investment portfolios of public officials, suggesting that the asset continues to gain visibility outside traditional cryptocurrency circles.

Community Members Offer Their Views

The post also prompted reactions from members of the crypto community, many of whom viewed the disclosures as noteworthy.

Crypto researcher SMQKE revisited that perspective by pointing to comments from a former Ripple executive who described XRP Ledger as a payments-focused network engineered for large-scale adoption.

SMQKE stated that “XRP was designed with mass-scale adoption in mind.” To support that statement, he highlighted an earlier post in which he quoted former Ripple executive Miguel Vias, who described XRP as the “perfect” digital asset to help revolutionize international payments.

SMQKE also recalled his previous post, which featured Vias’ statement that “The ledger can CURRENTLY scale to 50,000 TPS so it’s designed for high volume.” According to the researcher, those remarks reinforce the view that XRP Ledger was built from the beginning to accommodate significant transaction volumes rather than gradually evolving toward that goal.

Former Ripple Executive Explains XRP Ledger’s Focus

The X post included a video featuring Miguel Vias, who served as Head of XRP Markets at Ripple. In the recording, Vias explained that XRP Ledger was designed with payments as its primary use case.

He pointed to payment channels as one of the ledger’s key features, saying they enable transaction throughput of more than 50,000 transactions per second. According to Vias, those capabilities were already available and provided the scalability needed to support high transaction volumes.

Vias said this design philosophy played a major role in his decision to join Ripple. He explained that the combination of Interledger technology and XRP created what he considered the ideal framework for transforming cross-border payments.

He described the technologies as complementary, stating that bringing them together had the potential to revolutionize international payments. Vias added that pursuing that objective was one of the reasons he became part of the company.

Vias Reaffirms XRP’s Place in Ripple’s Vision

During the video, Vias also reflected on earlier Ripple products, including Ripple Trade and the Ripple Payments Platform. He noted that although those specific products were discontinued, the underlying use cases they supported continued to develop within the broader digital asset ecosystem.

Ripple Trade functioned as an on-ledger exchange, while the Ripple Payments Platform facilitated transactions in which fiat currency was converted into XRP, transferred across the ledger, and then converted back into fiat.

Addressing questions about whether XRP and XRP Ledger remained central to Ripple’s broader strategy, Vias responded that they remained deeply connected to the company’s long-term direction. He said it had become increasingly clear how different technologies were converging. He reiterated his belief that XRP represented the right digital asset while the XRP Ledger provided the appropriate infrastructure for that vision.

By revisiting these remarks, SMQKE highlighted them as evidence that XRP was built to support large-scale payment activity and was intended from the beginning for global adoption in international payments.
