What Ripple CEO and David Schwartz Said When Asked Where XRP Would Be In 5 Years

Crypto commentator Crypto Dyl News (@cryptodylnews) posted a video questioning whether Ripple’s top executives believe in XRP.

The post featured clips of Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and CTO Emeritus David Schwartz each being asked the same question: where do you see XRP and Ripple in five years?

Their answers, according to Crypto Dyl News, revealed a lack of confidence that the XRP community should be concerned about. XRP sat at $1.28 when he made the video, down 3% in the past 24 hours. While that decline can be attributed to the recent Binance hack, Crypto Dyl News makes a separate point about the asset’s future.

Comments From Ripple Executives

When asked where he sees XRP in five years, Garlinghouse answered that XRP “will continue to break out as the institutional gold standard for crypto.” Schwartz said he sees mass retail adoption arriving within that timeline.

Crypto Dyl News found both responses troubling. He noted that Garlinghouse paused before answering and read this as a sign of low confidence. Schwartz’s answer concerned him for a different reason entirely.

The Institutional vs. Retail Divide

Crypto Dyl News’s argument is that XRP was built and marketed around institutional adoption. Banks, payment providers, and financial infrastructure were always the intended use case. For Schwartz to cite mass retail adoption as the five-year vision, in Crypto Dyl News’s view, misses the point of the asset entirely.

“The whole point of XRP is INSTITUTIONAL adoption, not RETAIL adoption,” he wrote. He called Schwartz’s answer embarrassing and said it made him question Ripple’s faith in XRP.

He did leave a window open. He acknowledged that the executives may be staying conservative because something significant is coming and they cannot yet speak openly about it. But he made clear that if that is not the case, the responses reflect poorly on leadership.

Holders are Running Out of Patience

Crypto Dyl News stressed that his concerns are not his alone. He self-identifies as one of the top 0.1% of global XRP holders and said he reads community comments daily. He sees the same frustration repeating.

XRP holders have watched positive news from events like the Ripple Swell conference fail to translate into price appreciation. That gap between narrative and price performance has worn on the community.

He stated that he is not selling. He described himself as long-term focused. But he was candid that the situation has become “ridiculous,” and he used his platform to voice that directly.

David Schwartz Responds

Schwartz replied and clarified his position. “I don’t think institutional adoption is the end,” he wrote. “I think it’s going to lay the groundwork over the next two years for mass retail adoption. That’s why it matters!”

Crypto Dyl News acknowledged the clarification. He said he appreciated Schwartz’s honesty and still considers institutional adoption to be where the real value lies.

He maintained that the original wording felt like a dismissal to holders who have long been told institutions are the prize. He added that seeing XRP fall on strong news, while other tokens rise on lesser catalysts, remains his central frustration.
