The company announced it launched an inheritance feature inside Vault, its self-custody product. XRP, Bitcoin, and HBAR holders can now designate a beneficiary to receive their assets automatically upon death.

How Vault Works

Vault sits at the intersection of self-custody and platform convenience. Uphold CEO Simon McLoughlin describes it as bringing “all of the benefits of self-custody to mainstream users.” The product gives users full control over their private keys, meaning no third party can block access to their funds.

Vault also includes a key replacement service. If a user loses their private key, Uphold can help recover access. This addresses one of the most common vulnerabilities in traditional self-custody arrangements. Standard hardware wallets or seed phrase storage offers no such safety net.

McLoughlin calls Vault “the most secure and convenient way to hold your assets on Uphold.” The inheritance feature builds on that foundation.

Passing Crypto to a Beneficiary

The inheritance feature allows users to name a specific beneficiary. When the account holder dies, the designated person automatically and securely receives the assets. The process requires no legal intermediary and no manual transfer at the time of death.

This matters particularly for XRP holders. Uphold has consistently supported XRP. This move adds another useful feature to the ecosystem that has no established planning infrastructure for traditional financial assets. Advisors and attorneys are often unfamiliar with how to handle it. Uphold’s feature fills that gap by handling the transfer at the platform level.

Bitcoin and HBAR holders gain the same benefit. Bitcoin inheritance has historically required careful technical planning, including passing on seed phrases or hardware wallets. Errors in that process can result in permanent loss. The Vault feature, which Uphold recently teased, removes that risk by automating the transfer.

The Importance of This Launch

McLoughlin called Vault one of the Uphold products he is most proud of. The inheritance feature is the most significant addition to the product since its launch.

The feature addresses a real and largely unsolved problem in the retail crypto space. Most exchanges offer no native inheritance solution, and most experts advise placing crypto in a trust.

Uphold’s approach keeps everything within its existing infrastructure. Users do not need to set up external legal arrangements or transfer assets to a separate custody solution.

The movement also gives the XRP community another large on-chain transaction to examine as observers track the destination wallets and any subsequent transfers.

Whale Withdraws 577.8 Million XRP From Uphold

BSCN tweeted that 577,815,416 XRP left Uphold across seven separate transactions. The crypto media outlet cited Whale Alert’s reporting on the withdrawals and asked whether Ripple could have initiated the transfers.

The seven transactions moved XRP away from the same exchange, but the available transaction information does not identify the entity behind the wallets that received the tokens. The destination addresses could therefore provide additional information about the purpose of the movement.

Coin_Scoop offered one possible explanation in the comments. The commentator said that splitting such a large amount across seven transactions from one exchange could indicate that a large holder was rebalancing custody rather than Ripple moving treasury holdings.

Coin_Scoop also pointed to Ripple’s scheduled escrow releases and said the withdrawal pattern does not match that cadence. The commentator suggested whether the destination wallets connect before attributing the transfers to a single entity.

Destination Wallets Could Reveal More

TeinOnChain also focused on the receiving wallets. The commentator said transactions of this size usually involve custody arrangements or over-the-counter activity rather than an immediate sale.

The destination wallets could therefore provide more context about the movement. If the wallets continue to hold the XRP, the transfers could reflect a custody change. If the tokens later move to exchanges or other identifiable addresses, those transactions could provide additional clues about the holder’s intentions.

Other commenters offered different interpretations of the development. STELLAR NOMAD took a bearish view of XRP and predicted a decline toward $0.80 and potentially lower. The commenter also promoted Stellar’s XLM as an alternative within the crypto market.

KevinInvesting1 viewed the development positively for Uphold. The commenter described Uphold as highly liquid and said the exchange fully backs its assets. KevinInvesting1 also said investors could value such liquidity conditions during a bull market.

Ripple Connection Remains Unconfirmed

BSCN’s question about Ripple remains open based on the information surrounding the transactions. Whale Alert’s data shows that 577.8 million XRP left Uphold, but the transactions alone do not establish that Ripple controlled the funds.

The receiving wallets will remain important for further analysis. Their subsequent activity could help determine whether a large holder moved the XRP for custody purposes, prepared for an OTC transaction, or pursued another strategy. Until those wallets reveal more information, the identity behind the $900 million XRP movement remains unconfirmed.

The Transfers

The dollar values across the five transfers were not uniform. XRP’s price fluctuated between transactions. The first is worth $130,276,973. The remaining four came in at $129,686,601, $129,636,949, $129,572,382, and $129,539,147 respectively.

That price decline across the sequence suggests the trades were executed within a short window, with XRP’s spot price drifting downward between each.

What the Numbers Suggest

Five identical round-number transfers in rapid sequence is an unusual pattern. Some observers read it as a treasury migration signature rather than an organic buyer. If the tokens remained within Uphold’s own custody structure, the move carries no market significance.

If they went to a third party for OTC distribution or institutional settlement, the picture changes considerably. This suggests higher institutional demand for XRP.

The Community’s Reaction

The response ranged from skepticism to outright dismissal. One observer explained that “unknown wallet” simply means unlabelled on public ledger explorers, not untraceable. He said five round-number transfers in sequence are the signature of a treasury migration rather than a buyer, and urged people to check whether the balance actually left Uphold.

One commenter noted that internal wallet movements are normal. Another pointed to the absence of a price reaction as evidence the move carried no weight. He noted that XRP sat at $1.29 with nothing to get excited about.

Where XRP Stands

XRP has had a difficult 2026. After touching highs above $3 in 2025, the token retreated to below $1 as the wider crypto market sold off. While XRP Update suggests something big is coming, these transfers give holders little definitive information. Uphold is building a feature called “Earn on XRP.” The company’s Chief Product Officer confirmed on September 3 that the product is in its final development phase. Uphold holds 1.62 billion XRP on its platform, representing 1.63% of all XRP in circulation.

Why XRP Yield is Technically Complicated

XRP does not run on a proof-of-stake network. This design makes it considerably more efficient while preserving its decentralized design. However, there is no native staking mechanism to plug into. That has historically made it difficult for platforms to offer yield on XRP the way they can with Ethereum or Solana.

Uphold is working around this through DeFi infrastructure. The approach involves Flare Network, an EVM-compatible blockchain that allows the creation of FXRP, a wrapped version of XRP. Once a user opts in, Uphold locks their XRP in reserve and represents that value on the Flare blockchain as FXRP. That wrapped token can then participate in DeFi strategies and liquidity pools.

What the Launch Will Look Like

Uphold has confirmed the feature targets regulated, safe yield opportunities for U.S. holders. The company is also working to secure New York’s BitLicense before launch, signaling a compliance-first approach. Official terms and interest rates have not been published yet. Uphold has said those details will arrive in the coming weeks.

The XRP yield ecosystem is expanding, and the DeFi infrastructure being used offers some reference points for yield benchmarks. The earnXRP product, built on Flare Network by Upshift Finance and Clearstar, targets yields of 4% to 10% APR depending on vault size. Bybit’s XRP yield product with Doppler Finance offered up to 5% APR on a 90-day term.

Uphold’s Position in the XRP Ecosystem

Uphold has built its identity closely around XRP. The platform never delisted the token during the SEC lawsuit. It now offers a debit card with up to 6% XRP back and various perks. Adding yield on held XRP is the next logical step in that strategy.

The company has over 10 million users across more than 140 countries. Once it’s live, the Earn on XRP feature will initially target U.S. holders, applying to one of the largest single XRP holdings of any platform in the crypto space.

Each Promotional Day starts the moment Uphold posts the giveaway and runs for 24 hours.

Participants get one entry per day, and Uphold confirmed that no purchase is necessary to enter or win. The program runs on select dates through June and July 2026, with the full Promotional Period ending no later than July 31, 2026.

Eligibility Rules

Uphold has held similar giveaways in the past, previously giving out 50,000 XRP to a single user. In late 2025, the exchange also gave out $10,000 for using the Uphold Debit Card. It limited this event to U.S. residents who are 18 years and above.

The company excluded New York, Florida, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and any other jurisdiction where sweepstakes are prohibited. Uphold employees, their affiliates, and immediate family members are not allowed to participate.

Prize Delivery Process

Uphold will message selected participants directly on X, and winners must respond within 72 hours with their Uphold account email and Uphold ID number. Miss that window, or submit false information, and Uphold cancels the prize automatically.

Once confirmed, Uphold credits XRP to each winner’s account within 30 days of the Promotional Period ending. The company set the total giveaway pool at $2,000 in XRP across all Promotional Days.

Terms Participants Should Know

Uphold built several protections into the program. Prizes carry no cash value and can’t be transferred to another person. Winners cover any taxes associated with their prize, and Uphold bears no responsibility for changes in asset value after delivery. The company also reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the giveaway entirely, and can reclaim a prize if it suspects fraud or rule violations.

A Low-Barrier Entry Into Crypto Engagement

The giveaway gives Uphold a direct way to grow its X following while rewarding existing account holders. This move also provides an opportunity to grow its influence in the XRP army. Importantly for the XRP community, Beaton confirmed that XRP would be included in this program. She described the initiative as providing a form of yield generation that has not previously been available to XRP holders through Uphold.
