The readiness of the deal’s implementation phase was announced in a video shared on the company’s YouTube channel last week. According to the report, Cardano sealed the deal to help create a blockchain-based digital identity for 5 million students and teachers in Ethiopia.

Using Atala PRISM built on top of the Cardano blockchain, a national attainment recording system will be created by IOG to enable the Ministry of Education to monitor school performance, review grades, and promote nationwide education.

In the video, the director of African operations at IOG, John O’Connor, spoke expressly on the progress of the partnership and other related developments.

Speaking on the project, he said the software company had been working diligently and tirelessly with the Ethiopian government to integrate the national attainment recording system with national identity systems and national data protection laws.

John O’Connor said the company has been working with the government since last month to train students, schoolmasters, mistresses, and teachers on how to use the platform.

He pointed out that the training should complete this month to give room for the rollout of the platform for students over the next two months. The firm aims to fully onboard 1 to 2 million students, which is still within the agreement made in the partnership.

The sealing of the partnership with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Education was brought to the notice of the public in late April 2021. The partnership was sealed to create a blockchain-based national ID and attainment recording system as aforementioned.

The partnership is targeted at bringing over 5 million students and 750,000 teachers to the Cardano blockchain. Back then, the firm described the deal as the largest blockchain deployment in the world.

According to the report, the agreement was signed by Ethiopia’s Education Minister, Prof. Berhanu Nega, and Charles Hoskinson, the creator of Cardano, the largest proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain.

The report says that the current agreement aims to assess the status of the project as soon as it’s completed and delivered at the expected time.

IOG to Give 1 Million Students Digital Identification by the End of 2021

In the course of the signing ceremony, Prof. Berhanu Nega, the Minister of Education, lauded the progress of the project and stated that the first 1 million digital IDs will be issued to students by the end of the year.

Reacting to the new development, IOG chief, Charles Hoskinson, pointed out that his company will provide the digital identification on time as expected and will continue to work with the Ministry of Education.

The report further states that digital identification of students and teachers is one of the activities to support the country’s education sector in technology.

The partnership between IOG and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Education was announced on 27th April 2021 to create a blockchain-based national ID and attainment recording system. The partnership targets 5 million students and 750,000 teachers in 3680 schools.

Reacting to the major partnership back then, IOG noted:

It can be recalled that Input Output Global (IOG), the software firm behind the development of Cardano (ADA), sealed a partnership with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Education back in April. The big partnership is targeted at creating a blockchain-based national ID and attainment recording system.

According to IOG, the partnership will bring over 5 million students and 750,000 teachers to the Cardano network. The development was also described as the largest blockchain deployment in the world.

The purpose of the deal is to improve the efficiency of education and ensure the social mobility of students who live in poverty-stricken rural areas.

Reacting to the photos posted by Hoskinson, a crypto enthusiast asked for the purpose of meeting the minister of education after a deal was already signed a couple of months ago.

In response to the user’s question, Charles Hoskinson said the meeting is meant to scale up the already existing partnership.

Charles Hoskinson’s Journey to Africa

On 15th October, Cardano creator Charles Hoskinson left the United States for Cape Town to attend meetings dedicated to blockchain innovations in African countries, which is part of the CiTi event.

As suggested by Hoskinson in his speech at the event, in the near future, Africa will be among the first to fully adopt blockchain-based products, stating that this would boost its exposure and progress in the technology and financial spheres.

After Zanzibar, the IOG CEO headed to Burundi to meet local president Évariste Ndayishimiye about the digital transformation of the country.

Also, in an update shared a couple of days ago from Africa, Hoskinson stated that he was able to meet top business owners, including the CEO of the retail giant ShopRite and the company’s innovation team.

According to the update, the Cardano Africa Tour is planned to reach Kenya, Ethiopia, and Egypt. Hoskinson pointed out that he intends to meet three heads of state in the course of his tour.

Cardano founder tagged the long trip around African countries as a “pan-African tour.” The tour started in Cape Town South Africa and will continue to other regions such as Zanzibar, Burundi, Kenya, Ethiopia and end up in Egypt.

IOG CEO said he has three heads of state to meet in the course of his tour, including a number of other scheduled meetings.

New Technologies Will Be Rolled Out on Cardano Blockchain

During the brief update, Charles Hoskinson also addressed FUD in relation to Cardano’s coming integration of PAB (Plutus Application backend), a small upgrade to Cardano slated to play out in late October, which may appear in early November 2021.

PAB is one of the tools offered by the platform after the implementation of Alonzo hard fork on 12th September. This tool helps developers building on Cardano to use smart contracts.

As further explained, PAB is an off-chain, backend service for managing and handling the requirements of the application instance throughout its existence.

According to Hoskinson, there are lots of usual FUD regarding Cardano’s blockchain scalability and transaction per second.
