The new development was announced a few hours ago by Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Theatres, via his official Twitter handle.

Adam Aron tweeted, “Your replies might break the internet, given your clear enthusiasm and interest in cryptocurrency. As promised, the http://amctheatres.com website now accepts Dogecoin and Shiba Inu for online payments! A special shout out to @BitPay for helping us to make this happen.”

On 28th February 2022, Aron confirmed that Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Dogecoin (DOGE) are coming to become payment options on AMC Theaters’ official website via its partnership with BitPay.

“This might rev up the Cryptocurrency fans amongst you. AMC IT says that BitPay will be live for AMC online payments on our website by March 19 and live on our mobile apps by April 16. Possibly a few days earlier. BitPay, and therefore soon AMC, accepts DogeCoin and Shiba Inu.”

AMC Theatres is the largest movie exhibition company in the United States, Europe, and the world with approximately 1,000 theatres and more than 11,000 screens across the world serving approximately 350 million guests annually. In the U.S., AMC operates approximately 660 theatres with 8,200 screens serving 265 million guests.

According to Aron in a tweet on 28th February 2022, BitPay services will be activated for AMC online payment on the official website on 19th March 2022, while that of the mobile app will be live on or before 19th April 2022.

The update implies that users of AMC Theaters will be able to make payments using Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) via the crypto payments service, BitPay, on which they have both been listed.

Since AMC has been a pioneer in crypto acceptance and currently accepts Dogecoin as payment for gift cards through a partnership with Bitpay, full support for Dogecoin and Shiba Inu payments is not far off since they are the “people’s crypto.”

It can be recalled that AMC CEO also echoed the upcoming support for the top meme coins in January. Back then, he assured the crypto community that the full support for DOGE and SHIB is around the corner, most likely in March 2022.

Both Dogecoin and Shiba Inu enthusiasts are excited about this notable exposure that is coming to their respective ecosystems. Many believe that this is one of the big deals to expect this year.

Back in November 2021, Adam Aron announced that the company would accept DOGE and SHIB through Bitpay. Howbeit, at that time, Bitpay hadn’t started to support Shiba Inu. Aron claimed that the crypto payment processing company decided to start supporting SHIB at his request.

It can be recalled that the announcement of acceptance of Shiba Inu was at the request of the community itself, which responded mostly to a survey made by Aron on Twitter in November.

In the survey, he asked if they agreed with the acceptance of Dogecoin (DOGE) and later asked the same question about Shiba Inu (SHIB).

At that time, the CEO had already anticipated that AMC will begin to accept Shiba Inu in 90 to 120 days, that is, in the first quarter of this year. In early December, Bitpay, which already supported DOGE, started supporting SHIB.

Such a needed adoption is coming from the largest movie theater chain in the world. In a tweet on 16th September 2021, Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Theatres, confirmed that the firm will start accepting Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Bitcoin Cash (BCH).

According to the report, the three cryptocurrencies will be incorporated alongside Bitcoin (BTC) by the end of the year, for online ticket and concession payments.

Adam Aron tweeted, “Cryptocurrency enthusiasts: you likely know AMC Theatres has announced we will accept Bitcoin for online ticket and concession payments by year-end 2021. I can confirm today that when we do so, we also expect that we similarly will accept Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash.”

Prior to the latest announcement, AMC Theatres CEO, Adam Aron, had revealed that the company plans to add support for Bitcoin (BTC) during an earnings call in early August.

Back then, he also assured that the company will consider other cryptocurrencies, making the recent announcement the confirmation of the major step.

AMC Theatres is the world’s largest cinema chain with 1,004 theaters and 11,041 screens. Back in March, the company managed to reopen theaters in California and New York, which are currently its most lucrative markets.
