Traders on Binance keep adding XRP positions even though the token trades far below its all-time high. Crypto pundit Xaif (@Xaif_Crypto) highlighted the trend in a post on X.
He said XRP open interest growth has reached its highest level since August 2025. He added, “Something is clearly building beneath the surface.”
Reading the Chart
Xaif shared a CryptoQuant chart of Binance XRP net taker volume and open interest percentage change. The purple area tracks the 30-day moving average of open interest change. The black line tracks the XRP price.
The purple area spent long stretches below zero over the past year. It dropped sharply in October 2025 around the flash crash and stayed low into November while the price also struggled. Readings turned positive in several short bursts through 2026, but each one faded. The price kept sliding and bottomed near $0.90 in August 2026.
The picture shifted in late August. XRP rose sharply, and open interest growth climbed. The purple area then reached about 1.2, the highest reading since August 2025. The dashed line on the chart marks that comparison.
$XRP Open Interest growth has reached its highest level since August 2025.
Binance data shows a strong pickup in OI momentum while XRP price remains well below its 2025 highs.

What Rising Open Interest Means
Open interest measures the total value of open futures contracts. A rising figure means traders are opening new positions faster than they close old ones. It shows growing participation, but not the direction of those bets. Xaif points to the gap between rising activity and a lagging price as the data’s notable feature.
Rising open interest often leads to larger price swings. More positions in the market mean more forced liquidations when the price moves against traders. A push higher could squeeze short sellers. A drop could wipe out leveraged longs. Either outcome depends on how the price reacts near current levels.

Traders will watch whether open interest holds its gains. A steady climb would show sustained interest. A quick reversal would suggest the surge came from short-term speculation.
The Community’s Reaction
Several community members weighed in on the post. One user said rising open interest with a lagging price shows positioning is building. He questioned whether real demand or piling leverage causes it.
Another user called the divergence the part worth watching. He noted that open interest is accelerating to levels not seen since August 2025. The data gives XRP traders a clear signal to track. The next price move will show how much it matters.
