Miami Mayor Francis Suarez Says He Still Takes Salary in Bitcoin (BTC)

Mayor Francis Suarez ranks among the top personalities to show massive support for bitcoin and the cryptocurrency movement in general.

According to the Miami Mayor, who is the first-ever American politician to accept a regular salary in BTC, the digital asset (bitcoin) is a good investment.

During an interview session on Friday, Francis Suarez, the Mayor of Miami and the United States Conference of Mayors President noted that he buys the top-ranked cryptocurrency by market capitalization at two weeks intervals.

According to him, his salary has seen a significant increase ever since he started receiving his bi-weekly salary in BTC. Answering a question from the interviewer regarding his support for bitcoin and whether he still buys BTC, he said, “I still buy bitcoin every two weeks. Since taking my salary in bitcoin, my salary is up! It’s been a good investment.”

Recall that the Republican mayor noted in 2022 that the salary he takes in the form of bitcoin is not his only salary. “I will note, for the record, that it’s not my only salary,” he told a panel at the 2022 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “It’s a different decision than if a person was deciding to take their salary in Bitcoin if it was the only source of income for them,” he added.

It bears mentioning that Mayor Francis Suarez is bent on turning Miami into a cryptocurrency and tech center. This has led to an ever-increasing number of Bitcoin ATMs in the popular city. Mayor Francis Suarez first announced his plan to receive his paycheck in bitcoin in 2021.
