The possibility of X (formerly Twitter) integrating cryptocurrencies like XRP or XLM for payment services has sparked significant discussion within the platform’s community.
This speculation gained momentum after Dubai-based crypto influencer Amelie queried X’s AI assistant, Grok, about the potential adoption of XRP or its competitor Stellar (XLM) as a payment method on the platform.

Grok’s response acknowledged the ongoing excitement surrounding crypto integration for payments on X. The AI assistant revealed that it had detected hints and rumors suggesting XRP is a potential candidate for the platform’s payment system.
Grok even highlighted an unsubstantiated rumor regarding Elon Musk’s alleged testing of XRP payments on X. While this specific claim remains unconfirmed, it has undoubtedly fueled speculation within the crypto community.
However, Grok emphasized the importance of exercising caution when interpreting these rumors. The AI assistant pointed out that X has also been linked to XLM, a cryptocurrency with a shared founder, Jed McCaleb, and goals similar to XRP in facilitating international payments. This underlines the fact that X might not be solely focused on XRP and could be considering other cryptocurrencies that align with its vision.
Grok ultimately concluded that a definitive answer regarding X’s chosen path for its payment initiative remains elusive. The AI assistant advised the crypto community to patiently await further developments as X unveils its official plans.
It is crucial to clarify that the rumors of Elon Musk testing XRP payments on X resurfaced a few months ago. Some community members misinterpreted an XRP wallet labeled “Musk” with transactions involving popular pro-XRP exchanges like Bitstamp and Uphold as evidence of testing. However, it’s important to understand that anyone can create an XRP wallet with any desired name, rendering this speculation baseless.

While XRP and XLM remain contenders, it’s worth noting that Dogecoin might hold a slight advantage considering Elon Musk’s well-documented preference for the meme-based cryptocurrency. This is further evidenced by the acceptance of Dogecoin for certain purchases on the Tesla Shop.
It’s important to acknowledge that X has already secured payment processing licenses in 31 US states. This demonstrates the platform’s commitment to expanding its payment functionalities, and the potential integration of cryptocurrency could be a significant step in that direction.
