Pundit: Why Hasn’t XRP Price Exploded If XRP It’s Truly Bridge Currency?

Sunny Girl (@SunnyGirlecp), a crypto enthusiast on X, recently asked a question that many XRP holders have privately wrestled with for years.

She published a post asking why XRP’s price has remained low despite what she described as real-world adoption and institutional use.

She asked, “If XRP is truly positioned as a bridge to global fiat currencies, and countries like Dubai and Japan are already using Ripple’s technology, why hasn’t XRP’s price truly exploded yet?”

The Gap Between Technology and Price

XRP was built for cross-border payments. Ripple has positioned the token as a liquidity bridge between fiat currencies. Several financial institutions in Asia and the Middle East have integrated Ripple’s payment infrastructure.

On paper, that adoption story is compelling. Yet XRP has traded well below $10 for most of its history. While some analysts have set targets as high as $1,000, it remains far outside any current market reality.

Sunny Girl identified three possible explanations. First, the supply is large. XRP has a total supply of 100 billion tokens. A high circulating supply puts natural pressure on price. Second, a significant portion of XRP remains held by Ripple itself and early insiders.

That concentration raises concerns about sell pressure and decentralization. Third, the market may not fully believe institutional adoption will scale in a way that drives token demand.

Why Adoption Does Not Always Drive Price

There is an important distinction between a company’s technology being adopted and its native token gaining value from that adoption. If institutions settle in fiat and only use XRP as a bridge asset, some believe the demand created is transactional rather than sustained. That limits the price impact even when adoption grows.

The SEC lawsuit also held XRP back for years, limiting institutional involvement. While the lawsuit is over and recent policy shifts have improved the regulatory environment, the market may still be adjusting.

How the Community Responded

Responses covered a range of perspectives. One commenter argued that an administrative repricing is coming. He stated that the escrow would be closed down and verified institutional banks will eventually buy and sell XRP directly into client wallets. He added that XRP needs consistent price stability in the $50-$100 range before global banks move into emergency adoption mode.

Another commenter cited escrow as the core issue, suggesting that the locked token supply is what keeps price suppressed. However, her post faced some pushback, with some commenters calling XRP a scam. Many are still frustrated because of the assets underperformance, and are vocal about it.
