Stellar Lumens (XLM) has quietly released something significant.
Crypto researcher SMQKE (@SMQKEDQG) drew attention to the Stellar Development Foundation’s publication from October 28 about Project Thruput, a new execution model built to eliminate blockchain’s most persistent scalability problem.
The network just tested 7 million payments per second, and the technology behind that number is worth understanding.

Stellar has announced Project Thruput.📈
Project Thruput is a new system built to help the Stellar network scale.⏭️
It is also built for the AI agents that will use the network in the future.🤖

The Problem Project Thruput Solves
Most blockchains process transactions in a single global order. When two transactions compete for the same data, they queue. Adding more machines does nothing. Capacity stays fixed regardless of the hardware behind it.
Project Thruput eliminates that constraint. Transactions no longer require a single global order, even when they compete for the same data. Capacity grows by adding machines.
SMQKE noted that in early benchmarks, execution capacity within a single validator rose from 1.18 million payments per second on one machine to 7.02 million payments per second on eight machines. That is nearly 6x the original capacity.
Why This Changes the Network’s Ceiling
With institutional adoption on the rise, a network that can process over 7 million transactions every second could be a game changer. Notably, Stellar is also targeting another sector of the market. SMQKE pointed readers to a detail that sets Project Thruput apart from a standard performance upgrade. The system is “built for the AI agents that will use the network in the future.”
Stellar has stated its goal is to build a network capable of serving 10 billion people and the billions of AI agents that will transact on their behalf. The numbers support the ambition.
A Year of Forward Movement
Project Thruput arrives during one of Stellar’s most active years on record. In May 2026, the DTCC announced it would connect its tokenized securities platform to the Stellar network, with a planned H1 2027 launch, making it the most significant institutional catalyst in XLM’s history.
Earlier in March 2026, the SEC and CFTC jointly designated XLM as a digital commodity, removing the regulatory uncertainty that had been one of the primary barriers to institutional participation. These developments built the foundation that a system like Project Thruput now sits on top of.
What Comes Next?
The release of Project Thruput on FutureNet is a technology preview, not a final deployment. The Stellar Development Foundation has published the benchmarks and made the code reproducible. The next phase involves testing under real-world conditions and pressure from external developers.
