AI agents are paying for services on the XRP Ledger faster than anticipated. J. Ayo Akinyele, Head of Engineering at RippleX, confirmed on X that XRPL has now processed over 13 million agentic transactions across 166 x402 merchants. Agentic payments represent roughly 25% of all activity on the ledger today.
Akinyele had predicted earlier this year that XRPL would quickly surpass 10 million agentic transactions. The network did, and it kept building. His latest assessment is that “100M might actually come sooner than we expect.”
Transacting Without Human Approval
AI agents now pay for APIs, compute, and data autonomously. No human approves each transaction. The infrastructure supporting this activity needs to be fast, predictable, and cost-stable.
XRPL delivers on all three. Transactions confirm in 3 to 5 seconds. Costs are fixed in advance with no gas auctions or fee estimation. Agents operate within defined budgets because the ledger makes that possible by design.
Ripple launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit to accelerate developer adoption. The kit includes an XRPL Docs MCP Server, giving MCP-compatible clients like Claude and Cursor direct access to XRPL documentation.
Developers also get the XRPL Agent Wallet Skill and XRPL Payment Skill for Claude, covering wallet creation, balance checks, payments, and transaction tracking. A hands-on tutorial gets developers to a confirmed testnet payment in under 30 minutes.
X402 Integration Opens New Revenue Streams
XRPL’s support for the x402 payment protocol lets agents pay for API calls and AI model inference using XRP or RLUSD on day one. With 166 active x402 merchants, the commercial infrastructure supporting agentic payments is already live and growing.
RLUSD, Ripple’s USD-backed stablecoin native to XRPL, gives agents a stable denomination for workflows that require price certainty. Invoice settlement, payroll, and agent-to-agent commerce all run on the same transaction primitives that move XRP. RLUSD can also be exchanged for other assets through XRPL’s built-in DEX, with no external bridges required.

What This Means for XRP
Every agentic transaction generates network activity. As that volume scales, demand for XRP as a settlement asset scales with it. The ledger has run continuously since 2012 with no transaction rollbacks, giving institutions a reliable foundation for deploying agents with real capital.
Akinyele stated, “Now is the time to build.” The merchant network is live, and the transaction volume is growing. Developers who move early gain access to an expanding base of agents already spending on services across the network.
