This New Document Says XRP Is In BNY Mellon’s Global Payments Plan

Crypto researcher SMQKE has highlighted a statement from BNY Mellon’s stablecoin publication that explicitly mentions XRP alongside stablecoins as part of its plans for corporate payments.

SMQKE cited the section titled “Ripple and BNY: Speeding Up Cross-Border Payments With Stablecoins,” which discusses how the two companies are working around stablecoins and digital assets. The publication states that the goal is to help corporate treasuries move money “24/7/365, in real time, through stablecoins and digital assets like XRP.”

SMQKE emphasized the reference in an X post, writing, “XRP IS IN BNY MELLON’S GLOBAL PAYMENTS PLAN.” He then directed readers to the publication as documentation for the claim.

The statement places XRP within a broader payments strategy that also involves stablecoins and tokenized financial infrastructure.

Ripple and BNY Mellon’s Stablecoin Connection

The publication explains that BNY Mellon became the primary reserve custodian for Ripple USD (RLUSD) in July 2025. It describes RLUSD as a stablecoin designed for enterprise use cases and for improving the speed, cost, and efficiency of cross-border payments.

The document also notes that Ripple acquired a TMS solution from GTreasury in October 2025. According to the publication, the objective involves helping corporate treasuries move money continuously and in real time through stablecoins and digital assets such as XRP.

Jack McDonald, Ripple’s Senior Vice President of Stablecoins, said the companies are not trying to remove the role of banks in corporate banking relationships. Instead, he explained that Ripple wants to strengthen the relationship between corporations and banks while exploring the integration of RLUSD into BNY’s payments ecosystem.

The publication also describes interoperability between tokenized deposits and stablecoins as an important factor in bringing these use cases into practical operation.

XRP Mention Raises a Key Question

SMQKE’s post focuses specifically on the publication’s inclusion of XRP. However, the document does not state that BNY Mellon currently uses XRP for every payment transaction.

One commenter, Zoid, suggested that the necessary infrastructure may already exist and that companies could need to activate it. He also questioned whether a future increase in XRP demand could result from a supply-related mechanism or another development.

David Arnal offered a more cautious interpretation. He said BNY Mellon mentioning XRP in its payments plan is notable. But he stressed that an important distinction remains over whether BNY will use XRP directly in transactions or whether XRP will remain available alongside stablecoins.

For SMQKE, the key point remains the explicit reference to XRP in BNY Mellon’s publication and its inclusion within the institution’s broader discussion of real-time corporate payments.
