XRP-Focused Researcher Lists Major Deadlines Stacking Up for September 2026

Development deadlines in the crypto market are packed for September. A concentrated set of deadlines and milestones will test how fast the global system is actually moving. Crypto researcher SMQKE (@SMQKEDQG) flagged several of those milestones, drawing attention from thousands of followers.

Major Milestones in Russia

September 1 is the most consequential single date on the list. Russia’s central bank digital currency goes live that day. All 12 of Russia’s systemically important banks and large retailers with annual revenue above 120 million rubles must begin accepting digital ruble payments. Individuals are not required to use it, though a recent survey found 46% of Russians are ready to adopt it immediately.

At the same time, Russia’s first comprehensive cryptocurrency law takes effect on September 1. Putin signed it on August 4. The law recognizes digital currency as property and creates a licensed exchange market supervised by the central bank.

South Korea Expands Its CBDC Pilot

Also in September, South Korea’s Bank of Korea launches Phase 2 of Project Hangang. The expansion adds two regional lenders, introduces government subsidy distribution through tokenized bank deposits, and tests peer-to-peer transfers for the first time. Up to 500,000 users will participate across nine banks.

The SEC Convenes on 24-Hour Trading

On September 17, the SEC will hold a public roundtable on 24-hour equity trading at its Washington headquarters. The discussion covers overnight trading infrastructure, market resiliency, and the opportunities and challenges of expanding trading hours.

The FedNow Cross-Border Question

SMQKE also listed FedNow cross-border payments as a September development. The Federal Reserve proposed allowing intermediaries into FedNow transfers in April, which would open the instant payment rail to cross-border use for the first time.

A final rule has not been confirmed for September, though the Clearing House has set a September target for going live with domestic correspondent bank activity on the RTP network.

Legislative and Diplomatic Moves

The CLARITY Act cloture vote is on September 15. The Senate will vote at 2:15 p.m. EDT, with the measure needing 60 votes to proceed. Unresolved issues include ethics provisions, illicit finance language, and DeFi oversight. The researcher also noted that the UN General Assembly session opens mid-September, adding diplomatic weight to an already busy month for global financial policy.

Finally, one community member highlighted SWIFT’s Sibos conference, which convenes at the Miami Beach Convention Center from September 28 to October 1 under the theme “Digital Finance for AI-driven Economies.” The conference draws more than 10,000 financial industry professionals annually and marks the first time the event has been held in Miami.
