According to a report on X from XRP Update, President Donald Trump used a White House meeting with leading cryptocurrency executives on Wednesday, August 19, to call on Congress to advance the Clarity Act.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse attended the meeting alongside executives from major companies including Coinbase, Robinhood, Kraken and Nasdaq.
Trump made clear that he wants lawmakers to move forward with legislation to establish a new regulatory structure for the digital asset industry.

Trump Pushes Congress on Crypto Legislation
Trump began his remarks by praising the current state of the US economy before turning his focus to cryptocurrency regulation. He said the country had moved from being in poor condition two years ago to becoming “the hottest country anywhere in the world.”
The president then directly addressed the Clarity Act, urging Congress to pass what he described as a fair version of the legislation.
“Now we need Congress to take the next step by passing the Clarity Act, a fair version of the Clarity Act,” Trump said.
He described the legislation as “landmark” legislation and called it a “very, very powerful structure” for the industry. Trump also connected the bill to competition with China, saying its passage would help the United States maintain its position in financial and technological innovation.
Clarity Act Faces Senate Test
The Clarity Act seeks to establish clearer federal rules for digital assets and define the responsibilities of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The House passed its version in 2025, while the Senate Banking Committee advanced its version in May 2026.
However, the legislation still needs approval from the full Senate. Republicans require Democrats’ support to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to advance major legislation. The Senate entered its August recess without completing that process, leaving September as an important period for the bill.
A procedural vote is currently scheduled for September 15. If lawmakers advance the measure, the Senate would then move toward formal consideration before the legislation could potentially return to the House and eventually reach Trump’s desk.

Garlinghouse Attends White House Meeting
Garlinghouse’s presence placed Ripple among the companies represented at the White House gathering. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev and Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi also attended. Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman and Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeff Sprecher were among the other executives present.
September Could Become Crucial
The bill still faces disagreements over provisions involving cryptocurrency holdings and potential profits by government officials, including the president, vice president and members of Congress.
For the crypto industry, Trump’s latest comments add presidential support to a legislative process that remains unfinished. If the Senate advances the bill in September, lawmakers could move closer to establishing federal rules for digital assets. If the process stalls, consideration could be pushed beyond the November midterm elections.
