XRP holders looking for greater control over their assets are being encouraged to consider self-custody through Xaman Wallet’s Tangem card.
The XRP-focused self-custodial wallet made the statement while responding to an X post from Ripple’s former Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz, who highlighted the ability to use the card as a form of cold storage.
The exchange also clarified how Xaman’s cards differ from standard Tangem products, following a question from an X user about why holders would not simply use a regular Tangem wallet.
Xaman Promotes Self-Custody for XRP
Xaman Wallet, which provides self-custody services for XRP and Xahau, stated that XRP holders can take control of their assets by using its Tangem card. The wallet described the setup as a way to turn XRP holdings into cold storage while continuing to use its self-custody infrastructure.
The statement came alongside a response from David Schwartz, who discussed the nature of the Xaman and Tangem setup. Schwartz explained that the arrangement is more comparable to a cold wallet when the card is used together with a Tangem card.
The distinction is important because cryptocurrency wallets can differ in how private keys are stored and how users interact with their assets. Self-custody generally means that the user, rather than an exchange or another third party, maintains control over the credentials needed to access the assets.
Xaman’s post therefore focused on giving XRP holders another option for maintaining direct control of their holdings.
Xaman Says Its Cards Are Customized for XRP
One X user, ReasonableRebel, questioned why users would choose Xaman’s offering instead of simply using a standard Tangem wallet. The user also suggested Xaman have its own card.
Xaman responded, clarifying that the cards are already provided by the company and are customized specifically for XRP. The wallet further stated that its cards use firmware that it considers safer than that found on traditional Tangem cards.
The response particularly emphasises the product’s customization rather than presenting it as simply another version of an existing hardware wallet.
Xaman’s explanation also reinforces its focus on XRP users who want to combine self-custody with a physical card-based storage option.

Cold Storage Remains a Key Self-Custody Option
The exchange highlights the different ways XRP holders can approach asset custody. While users can keep XRP through exchanges or software-based wallets, hardware-based solutions can provide a separate method for managing private keys.
Xaman’s latest statement presents its Tangem card as an option for XRP holders who want to maintain custody of their assets while using a physical device. Its response to the community question also makes clear that the company views its customized cards and firmware as an important part of its offering.
