According to the recent tweet from Input Output Media, the new partnership between IOG and The Giving Block will ensure to make ADA holders’ donations reach suitable organizations.

How to Make Cardano (ADA) Donation

An ADA wallet (DdzFFzCqrht4KvuD5DhaptymLGAdt2znp8q8eB3RB9bok5ey2kwDQwJeXuB3NtsnCDhuNyMhd41VWPJXng7dvmGqE6AUkdQtqVXQPz2Z) has been created and displayed in the donation page captioned in the announcement.

According to The Giving Block, “All donations made to this wallet address will be split equally between International Medical Corps, CARE, World Central Kitchen, Women For Women, SOS Children’s Villages, Save the Children, Hearts and Homes For Refugees, and International Fund for Animal Welfare.”

Cardano users can make donations using the wallet address above to donate ADA to the nonprofits supporting Ukraine. According to the report, all donations will be processed by The Giving Block via America’s Charities.

The United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), announced the sanctioning of Tornado Cash on Monday.

According to the disclosure, Vitalik Buterin chose the protocol which facilitates anonymous transactions to protect the recipients of the donations, not himself. 

“I’ll out myself as someone who has used Tornado Cash to donate to this exact cause. My intent was protecting the recipients, not myself. The RU government knows my positions on the Ukraine issue anyway,” Vitalik Buterin stated.

This he said in response to a Twitter discussion about the sanctioning of Tornado Cash and the blacklisting of certain wallet addresses by the watchdog agency, OFAC.

The discussion started with Jeff Coleman on the need for financial privacy, especially in the case of donating to the Ukrainians during the intense war with the Russian government.   

He wrote, “wanting to donate to Ukraine is a great example of a valid need for financial privacy: even if the government where you live is in full support, you might not want the Russian government to have full details of your actions.”

Tornado Cash Sanctioned

The crypto mixer was sanctioned on Monday by the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for facilitating and technologically supporting cyber crimes and money laundering. 

So far, crypto hackers have laundered over $7 billion worth of assets using Tornado Cash. Henceforth, U.S. citizens have been banned from using the services of the crypto mixing protocol. 

While several entities have complied with this action by OFAC, some companies like Coin Center, a similar platform that facilitates crypto lobbying believe that the sanctions may be illegal citing that it goes against the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. 

Meanwhile, the United States-based stablecoin issuer, Circle, has blacklisted all addresses on the OFAC sanction list. In turn, about 75,000 USDC belonging to Tornado users have been locked by Circle.

It’s on record that Ukraine has received over $100 million worth of crypto donations since the war started. Although Buterin was born in Russia, he does not support the invasion. He has now shown his support to Ukraine with whopping donations in Ethereum (ETH).

Precisely, the Ethereum co-founder donated 750 ETH to Unchain Fund, a charity project launched by blockchain activists to support Ukraine with humanitarian aid, and another 750 ETH to Ukraine’s Crypto Donation wallet. This implies that Buterin donated a total of 1,500 ETH worth approximately $5 million.

The record of the donation was revealed by Unchain Fund in a tweet on 6th April 2022.

Unchain Fund tweeted, “We’re incredibly grateful for Vitalik Buterin support and donation of 750ETH! Besides Unchain Fund, Vitalik has also donated the same amount to Ukraine. 1500ETH = ~$5m that will make a difference for those in need in Ukraine! Thank you, Vitalik & Ethereum fam!”

It’s worth noting that Buterin hasn’t announced his donations publicly, and he’s likely not going to mention it. It was only revealed through his registered Ethereum Name Service (ENS) domain name, vitalik.eth, from which the transactions were initiated.

It can be recalled that Buterin publicly condemned the decision of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, when the invasion started, calling the attack a crime against the Ukrainian and Russian people.

Ethereum co-founder, who was born in Russia but moved to Canada with his parents that were seeking a greener pasture, said in a tweet:

“Very upset by Putin’s decision to abandon the possibility of a peaceful solution to the dispute with Ukraine and go to war instead. This is a crime against the Ukrainian and Russian people. I want to wish everyone security, although I know that there will be no security. Glory to Ukraine.”
