Artificial intelligence agents are becoming economic actors. They need payment infrastructure to match. Ripple has now positioned XRP and RLUSD at the center of that infrastructure.

CoinDesk reported that Ripple launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit. This developer toolkit enables AI agents to initiate autonomous payments on the XRP Ledger using XRP and its dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD. The kit integrates with the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), the open standard co-authored by Stripe and Tempo.

With this integration, AI agents can make recurring payments and manage wallets across multiple blockchains.

How the Kit Works

The XRPL AI Starter Kit gives developers concrete tools to build agentic payment applications. It includes an XRPL documentation MCP server, Claude skills for wallet creation, balance checks, and payments, along with support for the x402 payment standard.

Ripple’s Senior Vice President at RippleX described XRPL as infrastructure built for this exact future, saying support for x402 allows agents to pay with XRP and RLUSD today.

MPP goes further than one-shot payments. Stripe and Tempo designed it with a “sessions” primitive. An agent authorizes a spending limit upfront and streams micropayments continuously, without requiring a new on-chain transaction for each interaction. This is what makes recurring agent payments possible at scale.

Ripple’s Position Across the Ecosystem

The Stripe and Tempo integration does not stand alone. Ripple joined the x402 Foundation as a Premier Member in July 2026, alongside Coinbase, Circle, Stripe, Shopify, and American Express.

The x402 protocol, originally developed by Coinbase and now governed by the Linux Foundation, has already processed over 120 million transactions settling more than $41 million in volume across 14 blockchains.

Mastercard also named Ripple as a partner in its Agent Pay for Machines initiative, one of more than 30 launch partners in Mastercard’s agentic commerce network. Ripple now has active integration across x402, MPP, and Mastercard’s agentic stack.

XRP in the AI Era

The weight of these integrations reflects a structural shift. AI agents require payment rails that are fast, low-cost, and operating without human approval at every step. XRPL’s transaction finality, predictable fees, and built-in decentralized exchange address those requirements directly.

RLUSD adds price stability for workflows that require consistent billing, such as invoice settlement, agent-to-agent commerce, and cross-border payouts. Because RLUSD uses the same transaction primitives as XRP, agents holding either asset can convert between them through XRPL’s native exchange.

Ripple Explains What “Regulated” Means for RLUSD

The XRP Ledger has reached a major milestone for RLUSD, with the stablecoin’s supply on the network surpassing $1 billion.

XRPL Validator Vet highlighted the development in a tweet, pointing to RLUSD’s growth alongside several other stablecoins already operating on the ledger. Vet wrote that the progress made over the past two years shows how quickly the XRP Ledger’s issued-asset ecosystem is expanding.

In the tweet, Vet announced that RLUSD had crossed $1 billion in supply on the XRP Ledger. The validator described the milestone as a significant change from the network’s state two years ago.

Ripple’s National Trust Bank Approval

The OCC announced in December 2025 that it had granted preliminary conditional approval for the creation of Ripple National Trust Bank. The proposed institution would operate as a national trust bank under OCC supervision, subject to completing the agency’s remaining requirements before receiving final authorization to commence business.

XRP’s reach is expanding as CoinDesk recently reported that Flare Networks’ wrapped XRP token, FXRP, was approved as collateral in Sentora’s RLUSD Main vault on Morpho Blue.

The move lets XRP holders borrow Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin on Ethereum without selling their XRP.

XRP has long been one of the largest assets in crypto by market capitalization. For years, though, holders had few ways to put those coins to productive use on-chain. Flare has been working to enhance the XRP DeFi ecosystem, and a major change has come.

How the New Market Works

The process runs through several steps. Users mint FXRP through Flare’s FAssets system, bridge it to Ethereum via Stargate, deposit it as collateral, and borrow RLUSD at their chosen loan-to-value ratio. The market sits inside an isolated FXRP/RLUSD lending pool on Morpho Blue. Access is permissionless, with no whitelist required.

Sentora manages the vault. It reviewed FXRP’s market behavior, oracle design, liquidity, and liquidation capacity before approving the asset. The vault currently holds approximately $280 million in deposited RLUSD, making it the largest institutionally curated RLUSD vault on Ethereum.

Flare’s CEO noted that despite XRP’s size as an asset, it has historically seen very little use in DeFi. Sentora’s approval by an institutional risk team signals that FXRP now meets the standards required for serious on-chain lending infrastructure.

Why This Matters for XRP Holders

XRP holders retain exposure to the asset’s price while unlocking stablecoin liquidity. Selling is no longer the only option for accessing capital. Borrowers must stay below the permitted loan-to-value ratio, and positions can be liquidated if collateral value falls too far. The market launches with conservative supply caps that may rise as adoption grows.

Sentora’s leadership described the integration as bringing XRP’s scale into DeFi credit markets and expanding the asset’s productive utility on-chain. The integration draws a clear parallel to how Wrapped Bitcoin brought BTC capital into Ethereum’s lending ecosystem years ago.

What Comes Next for Flare and XRP?

Flare is actively simplifying the borrowing process. The team is building a Smart Accounts route that will let users authorize the entire flow directly from an XRP Ledger wallet. Direct XRPL-to-Ethereum minting is also in development.

The launch marks the first time an XRP-based asset has been approved as collateral in an institutionally curated vault on Ethereum mainnet. It positions XRP for a larger role in DeFi as Flare continues building infrastructure around the asset.

He explained that every transaction on the XRP Ledger relies on XRP as the network’s native gas token. The XRP Burn Mechanism

Digital Asset Investor concluded the clip by pointing to another feature of the XRP Ledger that he believes deserves more attention. After McDonald’s explanation, he noted that XRP is burned with every transaction, adding that the network’s original 100 billion XRP supply decreases each time activity occurs on the ledger.

On the XRP Ledger, the base transaction fee is not paid to validators or redistributed to other participants. Instead, it is permanently destroyed. This mechanism was designed primarily to protect the network against spam and denial-of-service attacks by making it costly to flood the ledger with excessive transactions. During periods of unusually high network activity, transaction costs can increase dynamically, further strengthening that protection while also burning more XRP.

Davis addressed the gap between Long’s statement and XRP’s price directly. He attributed it to how institutions operate. Institutional adoption runs on timelines that retail traders find difficult to endure. Ripple has secured full MiCA compliance in the EU, closing a loop that started long before most people were paying attention. The company confirmed it has received its Crypto-Asset Service Provider license from Luxembourg’s CSSF, making it fully compliant under Europe’s crypto rulebook.

Crypto researcher SMQKE (@SMQKEDQG) responded immediately, pointing to years of documented meetings between Ripple and EU regulators as proof this outcome was visible well in advance. He attached agendas from ESMA and the European Banking Authority to make the case.

ESMA’s records show a meeting with Ripple on 8 February 2022 specifically on Markets in Crypto-Assets. A March 2025 EBA log shows Ripple briefing regulators on RLUSD’s progress toward EU issuance. SMQKE has tracked this meeting trail for years as evidence of where the regulatory relationship was headed.

Ripple is officially MiCA-compliant.

The License

The CASP authorization pairs with the Electronic Money Institution license Ripple already held in Luxembourg. Combined, the two let Ripple run regulated crypto and fiat payment services across all 30 EEA countries through a single integration. Ripple now holds more than 75 regulatory licenses globally.

Binance Still Has Nothing

Binance has no MiCA license as of today. It withdrew its Greek application on June 24 after regulators signaled a rejection was coming. The exchange has suspended new registrations and several services for EU users and says it will reapply through France.

Just over 200 of the 3,000 crypto firms operating in the EU cleared full MiCA authorization before the 1 July deadline. Ripple made that list. Binance, the largest exchange by volume in the world, did not.
