]]> Ripple has secured full MiCA compliance in the EU, closing a loop that started long before most people were paying attention. The company confirmed it has received its Crypto-Asset Service Provider license from Luxembourg’s CSSF, making it fully compliant under Europe’s crypto rulebook.

Crypto researcher SMQKE (@SMQKEDQG) responded immediately, pointing to years of documented meetings between Ripple and EU regulators as proof this outcome was visible well in advance. He attached agendas from ESMA and the European Banking Authority to make the case.

ESMA’s records show a meeting with Ripple on 8 February 2022 specifically on Markets in Crypto-Assets. A March 2025 EBA log shows Ripple briefing regulators on RLUSD’s progress toward EU issuance. SMQKE has tracked this meeting trail for years as evidence of where the regulatory relationship was headed.

The License

The CASP authorization pairs with the Electronic Money Institution license Ripple already held in Luxembourg. Combined, the two let Ripple run regulated crypto and fiat payment services across all 30 EEA countries through a single integration. Ripple now holds more than 75 regulatory licenses globally.

Binance Still Has Nothing

Binance has no MiCA license as of today. It withdrew its Greek application on June 24 after regulators signaled a rejection was coming. The exchange has suspended new registrations and several services for EU users and says it will reapply through France.

Just over 200 of the 3,000 crypto firms operating in the EU cleared full MiCA authorization before the 1 July deadline. Ripple made that list. Binance, the largest exchange by volume in the world, did not.

What This Unlocks for XRP

The license is a company-level win for Ripple’s payments business first. European banks and fintechs can now move cash and crypto through one Ripple connection across all 30 EEA countries. That infrastructure gives XRP a real path to demand if payment volume starts routing through the XRP Ledger over time.

The regulatory clarity also lines up with SMQKE’s long-standing argument that XRP functions as a utility token under frameworks like MiCA, distinct from securities-style crypto assets. The MiCA Crypto Alliance already lists Ripple among the institutions shaping MiCA compliance.

Ripple’s post said it is ready to meet European demand. With full authorization now secured, Ripple has the regulated foundation to scale RLUSD and XRP-based settlement across the EU.

The shift follows a report just days ago showing XRPL and Ethereum in a near-tie for RLUSD supply. That tie no longer holds.

The New Numbers

Current tracker data puts total RLUSD circulating supply at $1.6 billion. XRPL now holds $896 million of that total. Ethereum holds $727.8 million. The gap between the two chains has widened to roughly $168.2 million. Days ago, that gap measured in the single-digit millions. The change happened over a matter of days, not weeks.

The XRP Validator’s Perspective

Vet operates a validator on the XRP Ledger, and he shared the updated figures with the community. The post described the $218 million inflow as part of a pattern building over recent weeks, with liquidity increasingly moving toward XRPL.

A week ago, XRPL and Ethereum sat at almost the same level. Now XRPL holds 55% of the RLUSD supply to Ethereum’s 45%. Sustained growth at this pace would mark a real change in how the market treats XRPL’s role in stablecoin infrastructure.

A single $218 million inflow day doesn’t confirm a permanent trend on its own. But the data now shows a consistent direction. XRPL’s RLUSD share has moved from parity to a clear lead in a short window, and the gap could widen more in the coming weeks.

The findings push back against a common concern in the community that RLUSD’s growth could come at XRP’s expense. Instead, the firm argues the stablecoin’s expansion has directly reinforced XRP’s role as the underlying settlement asset.

A Rapidly Growing Share of On-Chain Trading

RLUSD accounted for less than 1% of trading activity on the XRP Ledger at the start of 2026. Evernorth showed that this figure has climbed to roughly 12%. It also noted that the RLUSD/XRP trading pair alone generated approximately $900 million in volume over six months. This represents 88% of all activity within that specific pairing.

Evernorth also disclosed that cumulative trading volume across all RLUSD pairs on the XRP Ledger has surpassed $2.5 billion since the stablecoin’s launch. Every transaction involving RLUSD still settles in XRP and pays network fees denominated in XRP.

This design increases demand for XRP as RLUSD grows. Evernorth described this activity as genuine economic throughput for the ledger rather than a substitute for it.

Transaction Counts And Supply Have Multiplied

The report also highlighted a sharp rise in transaction frequency. Monthly transactions tied to RLUSD rose from around 54,000 in December 2024 to a range between 600,000 and 1.1 million more recently, with the stablecoin now driving close to one million transactions per month on its own.

Alongside this, RLUSD’s circulating supply on the XRP Ledger expanded dramatically, moving from roughly $20 million at the close of 2024 to more than $800 million by late June 2026. Evernorth noted that the XRP Ledger now holds about 51% of RLUSD’s total supply, a larger proportion than what currently sits on Ethereum.

Institutional Use Continues To Expand

Beyond trading metrics, the report pointed to broader adoption across the network. As of June 25, 45,527 accounts on the XRP Ledger held RLUSD, spread across 93,898 trust lines. Direct payment volume using RLUSD also grew substantially, rising from about $68 million in December 2024 to more than $5 billion by May 2026.

Evernorth characterized this trend as evidence of increasing institutional-scale reliance on the network, framing RLUSD’s trajectory as complementary to XRP’s function rather than competitive with it.

In a thread shared on X, Sevilla stated that many investors misunderstand the purpose of RLUSD because they assume it was created to perform the same function as XRP. According to him, that assumption overlooks the technical roles each asset plays within Ripple’s broader payments infrastructure.

Different Functions, Not Competing Assets

Sevilla opened his thread by posing a question that has become increasingly common among XRP holders: if XRP is the definitive solution for global payments, why did Ripple introduce RLUSD?

He noted that opinions within the community remain divided, with some expressing concern that RLUSD could eventually replace XRP. In contrast, others remain uncertain about how both assets fit into Ripple’s long-term strategy. However, he maintained that the technical explanation is more nuanced than those debates suggest.

According to Sevilla, the biggest mistake is treating XRP and RLUSD as competing products. He explained that financial institutions require precise account balances and generally avoid exposure to unnecessary price volatility. Because of that, he said XRP was never intended to function as a stable store of value before transactions occur.

From this perspective, Sevilla believes each asset performs a distinct function within the same payment system. One offers predictable value, while the other provides the mechanism for transferring that value across markets.

Why RLUSD Activity Could Still Benefit XRP

Sevilla also pointed to the XRP Ledger’s transaction mechanics as evidence that RLUSD adoption may support XRP rather than weaken its role.

He noted that every RLUSD transaction executed on the XRP Ledger requires a network fee that is paid in XRP and permanently burned. As a result, he said greater RLUSD activity on the ledger would translate into higher transaction volumes, increased liquidity, and a more consistent rate of XRP being removed from circulation through fee burns.

Based on that framework, Sevilla finalised that XRP and RLUSD should be viewed as complementary components of a shared financial infrastructure instead of rival assets. He added that evaluating either one in isolation fails to capture how the overall system is intended to function.

According to a report by global news platform BSCN on X, Ripple burned approximately $539 million in RLUSD in the last 30 days.

Data from XRPL validator Vet’s community tracker showed that token burns exceeded new minting activity by more than $129 million during the same period, signaling a notable contraction in the stablecoin’s circulating supply.

Ripple Burns $539 Million Worth of RLUSD in 30 Days

The report noted that the majority of the burn activity occurred between June 2 and June 12. That period marked the longest sustained intraday burn streak since RLUSD launched in December 2024. The largest single-day burn happened on June 3, after Ripple removed approximately $75.1 million in RLUSD from circulation.

The development quickly attracted attention across the XRP community, with users offering different interpretations of the burn activity, its impact on RLUSD demand, and Ripple’s broader strategy.

Burn Activity Is Normal Capital Management

Among the most prominent responses came from software developer and XRP community figure Vincent Van Code, who said that the burn activity should not be viewed as a negative event. He described the process as a normal capital management practice that allows Ripple to free up cash reserves that would remain tied to stablecoins.

According to Van Code, financial institutions often reallocate capital when higher-return opportunities become available. He suggested that funds backing RLUSD may have been released through token burns for deployment elsewhere while remaining available for future stablecoin issuance if necessary. He emphasized that RLUSD can be minted again whenever demand requires it.

Van Code also pushed back against comparisons between RLUSD burns and large token sales by cryptocurrency whales. In his view, reducing stablecoin supply is fundamentally different from investors selling digital assets on the open market. He further stated that the development should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness for XRP or the XRP Ledger.

What Supply Reduction Means for RLUSD Demand

Another community member, cexscan, offered a more cautious perspective. Commenting on the data, the user said it was “fascinating” to see Ripple actively managing RLUSD supply on-chain. At the same time, the commenter suggested that the scale of the burns raises questions about the level of demand supporting previous stablecoin issuance.

While Ripple has not publicly detailed the reasoning behind the recent burn wave, the on-chain figures have prompted renewed discussion around RLUSD’s growth trajectory and supply management practices. For many XRP community members, however, the key takeaway remains that stablecoin burns are a routine mechanism that can reflect operational and liquidity decisions rather than a direct indicator of market weakness.

As RLUSD continues to develop within Ripple’s ecosystem, market participants will likely continue monitoring mint and burn activity for clues about future adoption trends and liquidity requirements.

Crypto analyst CryptoSensei (@Crypt0Senseii) recently highlighted Ripple’s move to integrate AI agents into the XRP Ledger, positioning XRP and RLUSD as payment options for autonomous systems operating without human approval. Ripple launched the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a developer toolkit that lets AI agents send and receive payments on the XRP Ledger.

The kit supports the x402 payment standard, a protocol that allows machines to pay for digital services inside standard web requests. AI systems can now access APIs, pay for model inference, settle invoices, and move value between services, all without human intervention.

Why XRP, and Why Now?

CryptoSensei pointed to speed and cost as the central arguments. The XRP Ledger settles transactions in three to five seconds with predictable, low fees. For AI agents making many small payments in rapid succession, those qualities matter. RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar-backed stablecoin, gives agents a stable unit of account alongside XRP.

The x402 market is still young and currently dominated by USDC on Base and Solana. Ripple is entering that market with infrastructure it argues can compete on performance and simplicity.

The Community Weighs In

CryptoSensei’s post generated substantive responses across a few distinct lines of thinking. One commenter acknowledged the opportunity but raised a practical point about asset preference.

The argument was that AI systems would gravitate toward the fastest and cheapest payment rail, which XRPL may well be. However, that does not guarantee they use XRP specifically. Algorithms could route payments through other coins “until XRP is pricey and stable.”

A second commenter took a more directly bullish position, calling the XRPL AI Starter Kit “smart positioning for the emerging machine economy.” He cited the ledger’s speed and low fees as a genuine competitive edge over dominant stablecoins in autonomous transactions.

A third commenter went further. He argued that AI agents will not just use the ledger occasionally. Because they require XRPL’s speed and security around the clock, they will accumulate XRP as permanent reserves. The prediction was a “machine-speed drain on the float,” with AI systems becoming the largest institutional holders of the asset over time.

Infrastructure as the Variable

What CryptoSensei’s post highlights is a structural shift in who, or what, participates in crypto markets. Ripple has been gradually integrating AI into the ecosystem, and this is a major step forward.

AI-driven commerce requires payment infrastructure capable of operating autonomously, cheaply, and at scale. Whether XRP captures that demand depends on developer adoption, the maturation of x402, and whether agents are designed to prefer XRP.
