ETH Whale Gimli Buys 250 Billion SHIB

According to WhaleStats, the tracker of 5000 biggest Ethereum whales, an ETH whale identified as Gimli has recently initiated the purchase of 250 billion SHIB worth $2.7 million.

According to the whale tracker, the bag holder involved is ranked 235th among Ethereum whales.

A closer look into Gimli’s wallet shows that it currently holds a number of other cryptocurrencies, including Decentraland (MANA), Chainlink (LINK), Enjin (ENJ), Basic Attention Token (BAT), USD Coin (USDC), Fantom (FTM).

As expected, Ethereum takes the largest share of the whale’s holdings. ETH represents 76% of its portfolio. With the latest SHIB purchase, SHIB now holds about 19%, while the rest of the coins mentioned above share 5% of Gimli’s portfolio.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) in the Market

In the last 24 hours, the crypto market has shown signs of resurgence, with the flagship crypto Bitcoin (BTC) surpassing the $21,000 mark. Shiba Inu (SHIB) has also been showcasing positive trends.

At the time of filing this report, SHIB is trading at $0.00001135, with about a 5% price uptrend based on 24 hours estimation.

The huge transaction was first spotted and reported by WhaleStats, the platform that tracks top 1000 Ethereum whales.

The whale, which bears the name of a fictional dwarf warrior created by writer J. R. R. Tolkien, currently holds $47.8 million worth of SHIB tokens, which is his second-biggest token.

Gimli currently holds a total of $1.6 billion worth of ERC-20 tokens, which makes him one of the biggest holders.

This is the first SHIB purchase made the mega-whale this year. On Dec. 3, “Gimli” bought 28.2 billion SHIB tokens that were worth $1.1 million at the time of the purchase. This was preceded by another $2.4 million Shiba Inu buy on 2nd December 2021.

Shiba Inu remains the top choice of Ethereum whales, currently accounting for 14.67% of their total holdings. The FTX token (FTX), the native token of the eponymous crypto exchange, is in second place with a 13.37% share.

With that being said, the cryptocurrency is still down 61.69% from its all-time high of $0.00008616 that was reached on 28th October 2021.

Over the last 24 hours, Shiba Inu (SHIB) is down relatively 1%, continuing its streak of lackluster price action. Yet, the most recent purchase shows that whales are not discouraged by such lethargic performance as they continue to buy the dip.

At the time of writing, SHIB is changing hands at $0.000032 on major spot exchanges.

The popular Ethereum whale, Gimli, has been found accumulating the cryptocurrency on several occasions. About four days ago, the particular whale reportedly purchased about 25 billion SHIB tokens valued at around $1 million.

Overall, the whale now holds 1.2 trillion Shiba Inu coins worth about $53 million.

Shiba Inu returned to the spotlight after its 40% rally as Kraken became the latest exchange to allow trading of the Shiba Inu token.

Pressure on Robinhood to list Shiba Inu keeps mounting as a Change.org petition in favor of this listing has more than 542,000 signatures at the time of writing. Also, SHIB is trading at $0.00004412 at the time of press, according to CoinMarketCap.
