The new development was announced on Twitter a couple of hours ago by CryptoPunks Bot.

Considering the amount the NFT was sold, it’s the largest single NFT sale in recent time. Also, it’s worth noting that the price measured in Ethereum (ETH) is the fourth-largest of all CryptoPunks ever sold. However, the recent purchase is much further down the list when measured in USD at the time of sale.

Based on the record, the CryptoPunks NFT in question was last sold in November 2020 for 150 ETH, which was worth just $71,400 at the time.

A similar but bigger sale than this happened back in February 2022. The whopping sale involved CryptoPunk 5822 and it was reportedly sold for 8,000 ETH worth $23.7 million at the time of sale.

As it was reported back then, the CEO of cloud blockchain infrastructure firm Chain, Deepak Thapliyal, purchased the non-fungible token (NFT) directly from CryptoPunks developer Larva Labs’ own online marketplace. This is regarded as the all-time CryptoPunks sale.

CryptoPunks is one of the most popular and valuable NFT brands. It was launched in 2017 by Larva Labs, a pioneer of the NFT market craze of the last two years.

According to the report, the CEO of cloud blockchain infrastructure firm Chain, Deepak Thapliyal, purchased the non-fungible token (NFT) directly from CryptoPunks developer Larva Labs’ own online marketplace.

It should be noted that dozens of CryptoPunks have sold for a million dollars worth of ETH or more, but today, the collection shattered its previous record.

The previous top sale for a CryptoPunk was $11.8 million, bought by DraftKings’ largest shareholder, Shalom Meckenzie at a Sotheby’s auction in June 2021.

Meanwhile, the largest on-chain sale through the Larva Labs marketplace came in December, when the pseudonymous 4156 sold his namesake Punk for $10.26 million worth of ETH.

According to Thaplival in a recent tweet, he used leverage via decentralized finance (DeFI) protocol, Compound Finance to pay for the CryptoPunk.

The recent sale marks the 4th highest sale ever for a single NFT. Beeple’s “Everydays: The First 5,000 Days” holds the single-NFT sale record at $69.3 million from last March.
