]]> As crypto becomes widely popular and used, bad actors are also lurking around to take advantage of unsuspecting large crypto holders in order to steal their assets.

In a recent report, Canadian police have issued a stern warning to investors with a whopping amount of crypto in their wallets, stating that thieves have devised a new way to steal their coins.

According to police departments in Richmond and Delta, there has been an increase in the number of break-and-enter incidents that target high-value crypto investors.

How Suspects Gain Access to Homes

According to the information provided by law enforcement agencies, the suspects have been having their way into the homes of high-value crypto investors by disguising themselves as delivery workers or persons of authority.

Once they gain entrance, the suspects forcibly make these investors release the information needed to access their crypto accounts, especially private keys or seed phrases.

Staff Sergeant Jill Long of Delta Police Investigative Services said, “It appears someone is targeting these victims for cryptocurrency, and we believe this public warning is necessary in the interest of public safety.”

Police revealed further that these criminals are well aware that their targets are large holders of crypto. They added that there are likely more unreported robberies related to the scheme:

“The suspects appear to know the victims are heavily invested in cryptocurrency, know where they live and are robbing them in their own homes.

Urging victims or potential victims to take caution and report incidents, Jill Long said, “If you or someone you know has been victimized by one of these robberies, please call police. You may have important information that can help our investigators.”

The report also said despite the series of robberies carried out through this scheme, only one arrest had been made by the police.
