See New Features Coming to XRP Ledger. Here’s Why This Is Crucial

The XRP Ledger could soon receive one of its most significant rounds of upgrades in recent months, with several new feature amendments expected to enter the voting phase in about two weeks if development proceeds as planned.

XRP Ledger validator Vet outlined the upcoming changes in a post on X, highlighting new functionality to improve privacy, developer flexibility, institutional use cases, and overall network performance.

According to Vet, the proposed amendments include Batch, Confidential Transfers, Sponsored Fees and Reserves, Permission Delegation, Dynamic MPT, and a bundled fix. Beyond the new features, the update also includes performance improvements that could reduce memory usage and make validator nodes more reliable.

Batch Amendment Highlighted as a Key Addition

Among the proposed upgrades, Vet placed particular emphasis on the Batch amendment, describing it as one of the most exciting additions. The feature previously came close to activation, leading Vet to say there had already been considerable validator support for it. As a result, he indicated he would vote in favor of the amendment immediately once voting begins.

Responding to a community member who praised Batch and cited Sponsored Fees as another notable improvement, Vet explained that Batch has wide-ranging applications across the XRP Ledger ecosystem. He noted that projects could use it for monetization, NFT swaps, trustless swaps, and institutional applications, adding that it is ultimately a “creativity amendment” because it enables developers to build new transaction flows that were not previously possible.

Privacy Features and Developer Flexibility

Another feature that received attention in the discussion was Confidential Transfers. After one community member described the privacy-focused amendment as “massive,” Vet responded that it represents something completely new for the XRP Ledger.

He further noted that, considering the XRPL has existed since 2012, introducing this type of functionality after more than a decade is a significant milestone and, in his view, an industry first for a blockchain with such a long operational history.

The proposed amendments also include Sponsored Fees and Reserves, which would allow third parties to cover transaction costs and reserve requirements on behalf of users. Community members noted similarities to sponsored account functionality available on other blockchain networks, while Vet acknowledged the feature alongside Batch as another important addition expected to improve usability.

Performance Improvements Accompany Feature Upgrades

Alongside the new functionality, Vet highlighted several technical improvements aimed at increasing network efficiency. He said the update could reduce memory usage by about 40% on some machines, while most systems should see reductions of at least 10% to 15%. He also noted that the improvements are expected to lower the likelihood of XRP Ledger nodes and validators falling out of sync, strengthening network stability.

Vet rounded out his tweet by noting that the package includes numerous additional improvements throughout the XRP Ledger codebase that may receive less public attention but remain important to the network’s continued development. If the amendments receive sufficient validator approval during the upcoming voting process, the XRP Ledger could gain a broad set of new capabilities designed to benefit developers, institutions, validators, and everyday users alike.
