Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse responded to investors who compare XRP to Solana, saying he doesn’t expect people to choose XRP simply because he leads Ripple. His comments show how he views both cryptocurrencies and why he does not treat Solana (SOL) as a direct competitor to Ripple.
Garlinghouse Tells Investors To Consider Both
In a recent event, someone asked Garlinghouse why he should choose XRP over Solana and how he would compare the two assets.
Garlinghouse did not try to make a case for XRP over Solana. Instead, he recommended that his close friends buy the top five cryptocurrencies and hold them for the next five years.
“I’m not here to convince you to buy XRP,” Garlinghouse said. He then explained that he owns some Solana and does not limit his cryptocurrency exposure to XRP.
“I’m not one of these people who’s an XRP maximalist,” he said. “I’m bullish on a bunch of cryptos for a bunch of reasons.”
Crypto commentator BULLRUNNERS shared Garlinghouse’s remarks in a post on X and focused on his response to the XRP-Solana comparison.

Garlinghouse Sees Potential In Solana
Garlinghouse also explained why he believes Solana has attracted significant liquidity. He pointed to meme coin activity on the Solana network as one factor that helped drive demand and liquidity toward the blockchain.
“Solana obviously leaned into the meme coin activity, and it drove a lot of liquidity,” Garlinghouse said.
He then connected that activity to the broader factors that can drive cryptocurrency markets. Rather than dismissing Solana, he said investors could hold both assets.
“Buy both,” Garlinghouse said.
He also expressed confidence in their future performance. “I think Solana will probably do well. I think XRP is going to do well,” he said.
Garlinghouse added that Ripple’s development and the Solana Foundation’s development could influence which asset performs better over time.

Garlinghouse Does Not See Solana As A Ripple Rival
Garlinghouse also rejected the idea that Solana directly competes with Ripple. He described his relationship with people connected to Solana as friendly and said other projects compete more directly with Ripple.
“I don’t consider Solana a competitor,” he said. “I mean, I’m friendly with them.”
BULLRUNNERS connected these remarks to the wider question of XRP’s role in cross-border payments. The post described XRP as a potential bridge asset for international payments while noting that stablecoins could provide another solution depending on the use case.
Garlinghouse’s comments therefore placed XRP alongside other cryptocurrencies rather than presenting it as the only asset investors should consider. His response centered on the different factors supporting each cryptocurrency and his expectation that both XRP and Solana can perform well as their ecosystems continue to develop.
