Cardano users are facing a security threat after the official YouTube channel of Input Output Group (IOG) was compromised on September 18. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson confirmed on X that the IOG YouTube channel had been hijacked by unauthorized parties.

He said his team was working with YouTube to remove the content and recover account credentials. He warned users not to trust any videos or click on any links appearing on the channel.

The compromised channel broadcast a livestream where an AI-manipulated version of Hoskinson promoted a cryptocurrency giveaway. The stream was presented as a Project Catalyst town hall, a format that uses a name recognized within the Cardano community. Viewers were told they could double their cryptocurrency holdings, displaying a QR code as part of the scheme.

These offers, specifically fake Hoskinson livestreams and offers to send ADA and receive more ADA back, are already identified as a known scam format within Cardano’s own security guidelines. YouTube has also been called out for not doing enough to fight these tactics. Legitimate giveaways do not require participants to send cryptocurrency first.

Why This Incident is Particularly Concerning

What distinguishes this attack from more obvious scam attempts is that the fraudulent content was distributed through what appeared to be a verified and reputable official channel. This approach is designed to lower the guard of experienced users who might otherwise identify and avoid suspicious sources.

A similar attack happened in 2024 when the YouTube account of India’s Supreme Court was hacked to promote cryptocurrency scams.

What Users Should Do

Until IOG confirms control of the channel has been restored, all videos, QR codes, and external links associated with the affected channel are potentially harmful. Users should not send funds, click any links, or submit any personal information connected to content on the channel.

This came just days after a major cybercrime attack on an XRP holder. However, there is no indication that the Cardano blockchain network itself has been compromised. Holding ADA does not expose users to risk. The danger is triggered only when interacting with scam content, including fraudulent giveaway offers, QR codes, or requests to transfer funds.

XRP analyst Zach Rector says fresh buying activity is returning to the XRP market after significant outflows pushed the asset lower earlier in the week.

In a YouTube video linked in his recent tweet, Rector reported $28.96 million in net XRP inflows over three days and said the figure did not include the additional flows he tracked on the morning of his update.

Rector examined XRP’s market capitalization alongside its capital flows to measure how strongly the asset responds to buying and selling activity. He said XRP recorded $38.93 million in 24-hour net outflows earlier in the week while its market capitalization fell by approximately $14 billion.

Using those figures, Rector calculated a 358X XRP market cap multiplier. He said the calculation helps measure how sharply XRP’s market capitalization can change relative to the capital entering or leaving the asset.

Rector then examined the recovery that followed. XRP recorded $23.78 million in net flows on September 15, followed by $2.92 million on September 16 and $2.26 million on September 17. Rector said those flows totaled $28.96 million and coincided with XRP’s price rising from approximately $1.25 to $1.40. During the same period, XRP’s market capitalization increased by about $10.15 billion.

Evernorth Adds $30 Million In Funding

Rector also reported new developments involving Evernorth, the XRP treasury company preparing for a Nasdaq listing under the ticker XRPN. He said South Korean institutional investor NH Investment and Securities committed $30 million through convertible notes, with the funding dependent on Evernorth completing its SPAC merger.

Rector said Evernorth plans to start with approximately 389 million XRP. He attributed 211 million XRP to sponsor Arrington XRP Capital, 126 million XRP to Ripple, and 50 million XRP to a related party. He also cited approximately $224 million in committed cash and about $242 million in the SPAC trust account.

The $30 million convertible notes carry a 4% payout and can fund additional XRP purchases, although Rector noted that Evernorth can also use the capital for other purposes.

Rector identified September 28 at 5 p.m. Eastern as the deadline for Armada shareholders to redeem their shares. He said shareholders will vote on the merger on September 30 and expects XRPN to begin trading on Nasdaq during the fourth quarter, potentially in October or November.

Rector also presented several scenarios for XRP reaching $100 based on different market cap multiplier levels. His calculations put the required net inflows at $124 billion with a 50X multiplier, $62 billion with 100X, $31 billion with 200X, $20 billion with 300X, $12.4 billion with 500X, and $6.2 billion with 1,000X.

He pointed to a previous XRP move that produced a 986X multiplier. Rector said XRP’s market capitalization increased by $43.74 billion during that period while the asset recorded only $44.3 million in net inflows.

Crypto researcher SMQKE has used documentation from Ripple and the Federal Reserve to compare the two systems, focusing on 24/7 liquidity management.

In a post on X, SMQKE wrote, “Yes, Ripple’s ODL uses XRP to deliver 24/7 liquidity management which matches exactly what FedNow requires of private sector instant payment services.” The researcher attached screenshots of documentation from both Ripple and the Federal Reserve to support the comparison.

Ripple’s documentation describes ODL as a liquidity management solution for RippleNet customers. The system allows customers to move funds across borders and currencies without pre-funding accounts in different markets. Ripple also says ODL reduces operational costs and frees working capital while supporting continuous cross-border settlement.

The Federal Reserve document says FedNow enables fund transfers between master accounts, between a master account and a joint account, for private-sector instant payment services.

The document also explains that FedNow participants can authorize service providers to initiate liquidity transfers on their behalf. Correspondent institutions can also settle liquidity management transfers that participating FedNow institutions initiate.

Federal Reserve Banks will implement controls to ensure that participants use these liquidity management transfers only for instant payment liquidity needs.

SMQKE’s comparison centers on the fact that both documents discuss liquidity management in connection with payment systems that operate continuously. The researcher uses the documentation to link Ripple’s description of ODL to FedNow’s stated requirement for liquidity management in private-sector instant payment services.

Crypto commentator Austin Hilton has identified developments he believes could signal positive momentum for XRP holders and the broader cryptocurrency market.

XRP Market Holds Firm After Major Events

Hilton pointed to the cryptocurrency market’s performance after several significant developments during the week. At the time of his recording, XRP traded around 1% higher, while the overall market gained approximately 2%. Currently, XRP is trading at $1.40 and is up 8.35% in the last 24 hours. He also noted gains in Solana, Zcash and Hyperliquid as several major cryptocurrencies traded higher.

XRP analyst JD has outlined a possible change in XRP’s weekly price structure after the cryptocurrency fell sharply from $3.37 to $1.01. JD said he previously called $3.37 the top before XRP crashed 73%. He also said he identified $1.01 and the $1.25 grey box as important levels during the decline.

JD now sees a potential shift in the market structure. He pointed to XRP’s latest move and said the cryptocurrency has created a higher high. He believes this development could signal the next stage of the price movement.

Grey Box Could Define The Next Move

JD’s chart places the grey box around the $1.20 to $1.26 region. The chart also marks the $1.01 area with a separate highlighted zone and identifies the $0.786 Fibonacci retracement at approximately $1.01.

The analyst believes the grey box could serve as the higher low that confirms the recent market structure. If XRP holds that area while maintaining the higher high, JD sees a possibility that the cryptocurrency has already completed its decline.

At the same time, JD continues to prepare for another move lower. He said he still has orders in the pink box “just in case.” This shows he believes another decline is possible.
