Canada-Based Crypto Exchange Relists XRP

Newton, one of the most popular crypto exchanges in Canada, has announced that it has relisted XRP, the XRP Ledger (XRPL) native token.

The new development was announced on the 2nd of November by Dustin Walper, the CEO of the cryptocurrency trading platform.

The new development implies that Newton is the first crypto exchange to relist XRP since the long-standing Ripple-SEC lawsuit was filed.

Dustin Walper tweeted, “Surprise! We relisted XRP on Newton.”

As expected, the new development was applauded by the teeming XRP community members, tagging it as the beginning of the long-awaited restoration.

It can be recalled that the ever-active community members have been calling on crypto exchanges, especially Coinbase, to consider relisting XRP, since it is getting clearer that Ripple may win the ongoing XRP lawsuit against the SEC.

Ripple-SEC Lawsuit’s Progress

In December 2020, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Ripple, the San Francisco-based cross-border payment firm, for allegedly selling $1.3 billion worth of XRP in the space of seven years. A similar lawsuit was also filed against two of Ripple’s top executives, CEO Brad Garlinghouse and co-founder Chris Larsen.

In the last few weeks, many enterprises within and outside the crypto ecosystem have been coming with amicus briefs to show solidarity for Ripple, indicating that many are beginning to realize that Ripple cannot fight for the future of the nascent industry alone.

Coinbase, the largest US-based crypto exchange, has also joined Ripple and XRP in the fight. As reported some days ago, the exchange has joined others with a request to file an amicus brief.

According to Coinbase, the Ripple-SEC lawsuit ‘is a textbook case of just how critical fair notice is any reasonable notice of due process under law”, adding that “one of the fundamental due process protections guaranteed by our Constitution is that government agencies cannot condemn conduct as a violation of law without providing fair notice that the conduct is illegal.”

Also, Cryptillian, an online digital wallet, which has no financial relationship with Ripple, has also requested permission to file an amicus brief in support of the blockchain payment firm.
