Vitalik Buterin Shares Second Update about Balvi, Acknowledges Shiba Inu (SHIB) Community Support

Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum (ETH), has acknowledged the importance of donations in SHIB tokens that came from the Shiba Inu community in support of Balvi, a project he initiated to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

In a series of tweets on the 8th of September, Buterin highlighted the impact of Balvi on several projects that are meant to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and future outbreaks.

Acknowledging the support of the SHIB community and Crypto Relief, Vitalik Buterin tweeted, “Second update from Balvi! Lots more anti-covid projects funded, thanks to funds from @Shibtoken @CryptoRelief_!

In the same thread of tweets, Buterin shared a number of links to show that “the biggest reason to worry about covid is not short-term death rates, but rather long covid.” This shows that Balvi is founded for the long-term effect of the pandemic.

Ethereum co-founder also mentioned a number of projects that are benefitting from the funding. They include, D-NOME, Long Covid research initiative, PolyBio, and OpenAeros.

It should be noted that Buterin’s recent tweet is the second update in relation to the funding provided by Balvi for the projects mentioned above and others alike.

In his first update in May 2022, he wrote, “Update from Balvi! (moonshot anti-covid effort funded by @ShibainuCoin @CryptoRelief_). We have our first round of funding recipients.”

Buterin started the funding of coronavirus related projects back in 2021 when he donated 10% of the trillions of SHIB tokens gifted him by Shiba Inu team. At that time, he decided to burn the remaining 90% of the whopping SHIB tokens.

Back then, Buterin said:

“I’ve decided to burn 90% of the remaining shiba tokens in my wallet. The remaining 10% will be sent to a (not yet decided) charity with similar values to cryptorelief (preventing large-scale loss of life) but with a more long-term orientation.”
