A number circulating in the XRP community has caught ChartNerd’s attention. The technical analyst (@ChartNerdTA) rejected the $589 XRP price target for 2028/2029 and replaced it with his own: $5.89 within the same timeframe. He considers the lower figure realistic and has built a consistent case around similar targets.
Pushing Back On Outlandish Targets
ChartNerd has spent months pushing back against extreme XRP price calls. He declared he would delete his X account if XRP ever hit $1,000, and he has flatly rejected predictions of XRP trading above $1,000 by 2030
His reasoning relies on market cap logic. With roughly 63 billion XRP tokens in circulation, a $1,000 price would put the total market cap at $63 trillion, a figure that exceeds half of global GDP. No asset has come close to that valuation.

What He Sees As Realistic
ChartNerd’s long-term chart analysis places XRP in the $5-$8 range, which he has described as inevitable. He has also outlined a longer-term target of approximately $11.62 around 2028. The $5.89 figure in his latest post sits within that established range.
He has also addressed the near-term picture separately. XRP is currently trading around $1.27. ChartNerd sees warning signs of a deeper pullback toward $1 and he requires a weekly close above $1.34 to rule that scenario out. His base case for a potential bottom sits near $0.98.
XRP Army Responds
The reaction from the XRP community was mixed. One commenter accused the analyst of posting content that had become largely unserious and urged ChartNerd to return to pure chart analysis. ChartNerd responded by acknowledging the frustration, noting that he does his best to keep his content insightful but that it occasionally includes unpopular or contrary topics.
Several others pushed back on the $5.89 target itself. One said $5.89 by 2028/29 was a disappointing result and argued XRP needs to crack double digits by 2027. Another said $5.89 from current levels is roughly a 4.5x move and described it as a realistic cycle target for a top-five coin, contrasting it with the 450x implied by the $589 call.
One community member called $5.89 “a shitty result.” ChartNerd replied with an older post where he stated, “I’m all for higher XRP targets, but if the idea of a move to $5-$8 on a multi-billion dollar asset in the coming years does not satisfy you, I believe you’re in the wrong asset.” Despite the near-term caution, his longer-term outlook stays bullish.
