Lawyer and digital asset commentator Bill Morgan has raised a question about the motivation behind persistent XRP criticism online.
In a post on X, Morgan challenged the logic of individuals who dedicate significant time to discrediting an asset they publicly dismiss as worthless.
Morgan noted the contradiction at the center of the behavior. People who call XRP a scam still return repeatedly to spread negative sentiment about it. He noted that the time investment alone undermines their stated position.
“What does it say about the value they place on their own time if they spend so much of their own time degrading a crypto asset that they believe has no value?” Morgan wrote.
He offered two possible explanations. Either the critics receive payment for their activity, or their time carries so little personal value that they have nothing else to occupy it. Morgan added that the second possibility may overlap with what he called “abject stupidity.”
Morgan also considered engagement farming as a motive but ruled it out as most of the accounts in question hold small followings and generate minimal interaction.
Just think of the mentality of people who state XRP is a scam and has no value but spend hours and hours taking the trouble on the X platform to keep repeating this proposition and spreading FUD against XRP.

Responses Offer Competing Perspectives
The post drew a range of replies. One commenter pushed back on Morgan’s framing and offered an alternative explanation. The commenter noted that some critics may hold XRP themselves and object to the culture of exaggerated price predictions and unverified narratives that have surrounded the asset across multiple market cycles.
“None of the predictions have ever come true, zero,” the commenter wrote, adding that some critics may act out of an ethical concern for ordinary investors who could be misled by inflated claims.
Another commenter, Gio, agreed with Morgan’s psychological observation but redirected the discussion toward a structural question about XRP’s role within Ripple’s evolving business model. Gio pointed to Ripple’s expansion into enterprise stablecoin infrastructure through RLUSD and asked how XRP maintains its central position if banks can now settle using tokenised fiat without holding the native token.
“Legally we won, but functionally, how does Ripple’s massive pivot into corporate stablecoins directly force enterprise demand back onto the native XRP token?” Gio asked.
A Question Without a Clear Answer
Morgan closed his post by inviting readers to suggest relevant psychiatric theories to explain the behaviour. The post generated substantive debate, with responses ranging from ethical defences of criticism to strategic questions about XRP’s long-term utility within the Ripple ecosystem.
