Crypto educator James Rule XRP has brought attention to XRP’s on-chain distribution data. He cited figures from xrpscan.com to outline how XRP ownership sits across major entities. His post gives retail holders a clearer picture of where the token concentrates across the ledger.
James Rule XRP’s tweet read: “Curious about XRP distribution? xrpscan.com shows Ripple holds 39.5% of top accounts. Exchanges like Upbit (6.4%), Coinbase (5.8%), and Binance (2.75%) also have significant holdings, alongside Robinhood and Uphold (1.75B XRP).”
Ripple Leads the Rich List
XRPScan’s October 18, 2026 snapshot confirms Ripple as the dominant entity on the rich list. Ripple holds 39.50% of XRP across 31 accounts. That figure includes both liquid holdings and the approximately 35.7 billion XRP Ripple holds in cryptographically secured escrow accounts, which release on a scheduled monthly basis.

Exchanges Hold Billions in Custodial Wallets
The data shows major exchanges occupy several of the top positions on the rich list. UPbit ranks second with 6.44% across 13 accounts. Coinbase follows at 5.84% across 344 accounts. Binance holds 2.74% across 145 accounts.
Robinhood controls 2.37% across 6 accounts. Uphold holds 1.75% across 22 accounts. Bithumb accounts for 1.86% across 3 accounts, while bitbank holds 0.58% across 2 accounts.
XRPScan notes that exchange holdings represent custodial wallets. Substantial portions of those balances belong to retail customers, not the exchanges themselves.
Individual Holders Also Feature Prominently
Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen appears on the list under the label “chrislarsen.” His 7 accounts hold 2.53% of XRP in the rich list. Arthur Britto, another XRP co-creator, appears under the label “ahbritto” with 7 accounts holding 1.30%.
The remaining 9,420 rich list accounts hold 24.78% collectively. XRP held outside the top 10,000 accounts accounts for 10.30%.
What the Data Shows
The XRPScan rich list covers 8,194,963 funded XRPL accounts as of October 2026. A single entity can control multiple addresses, and exchange wallets custody assets on behalf of thousands of users. The data reveals concentration at the top of the ledger, but it does not establish exact beneficial ownership across those accounts.
