Pundit: Seems XRP Whales Know BlackRock Is Coming: See the Sell Wall They Have for XRP

A $33 XRP price figure is circulating again, but the number comes from a source that requires important context.

Crypto enthusiast XRPMoonWalk connected the figure to speculation about BlackRock and suggested that large XRP holders may already know something about the asset manager’s plans.

However, the claim about a $33 sell wall remains unverified, while the research behind the price figure does not represent a BlackRock price target.

XRPMoonWalk Raises Question About $33 Sell Wall

XRPMoonWalk tweeted that whales may know “BlackRock is coming” and suggested this could explain a supposed $33 sell wall for XRP. The post then asked whether someone could check Coinbase to determine if the sell wall still exists.

The comment appears to connect the alleged sell wall with a post from Global Macro Investor, Pumpius, which cited a $32.91 XRP valuation from research co-authored by Robert Mitchnick and Stanford economist Susan Athey.

However, there is no verified evidence presented with the post showing that a $33 sell wall currently exists on Coinbase or another exchange.

A sell wall consists of a large group of sell orders around a particular price. Traders can place or cancel those orders at any time, so the presence of such orders would not by itself establish that large holders have information about BlackRock.

Where the $32.91 Figure Comes From

The $32.91 figure does appear in a June 2018 paper titled A Fundamental Valuation Framework for Cryptoassets, which Mitchnick co-authored with Athey.

The research examined potential cryptocurrency valuations under different scenarios. For XRP, the success case produced a range from $6.37 to $32.91 per unit. The authors assigned that success scenario a 25% probability at the time.

The paper therefore did not establish $32.91 as a guaranteed XRP price. It also did not present the figure as a BlackRock investment target.

Mitchnick later joined BlackRock and now leads its digital assets operations. His current position, however, does not turn research he produced before joining the company into an official BlackRock forecast.

Research Does Not Equal a BlackRock Price Target

The viral claim that “BlackRock has a $32.91 XRP target” leaves out several details from the original research.

It omits the lower $6.37 figure, the 25% probability assigned to the success scenario, and the authors’ 75% probability for the failure case. It also does not make clear that the research predates Mitchnick’s role at BlackRock.

They also disclosed that she held a board position at Ripple Labs and owned equity in the company when the research was published.

No Evidence Links Whales to BlackRock

Even if a $33 sell wall existed, there is no evidence connecting it to BlackRock or the 2018 research paper.

The suggestion requires several assumptions: that large XRP holders know BlackRock’s intentions, that they know about the old valuation research, and that they have positioned sell orders around its $32.91 figure. XRPMoonWalk’s post doesn’t provide evidence for those assumptions.
