This Is Why XRP Price Is Pumping Right Now

XRP surged following a multi-day wave of regulatory developments in Washington. The asset currently trades at $1.30, up over 18% in the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.

Crypto commentator Mark Chadwick connected the dots. He noted in a recent post that CFTC Chair Michael Selig had confirmed the agency would create formal crypto market rules under existing authority if the CLARITY Act fails to pass.

For XRP, the timing of these developments matters. Ripple has spent years fighting for exactly this kind of certainty in the U.S.

Selig’s Signal Changes Everything

The CFTC held the inaugural Innovation Advisory Committee meeting on August 20 in Washington. Selig confirmed that his agency will not wait on Congress. If the CLARITY Act stalls, the CFTC moves forward anyway under existing authority.

The CLARITY Act passed the House in 2025 and cleared Senate Banking in May 2026. A procedural vote is set for September 15, requiring 60 votes to proceed. Odds of the bill passing have slipped to 10%. Selig’s commitment effectively removes that uncertainty as a blocker.

One market observer noted that institutions do not deploy capital into ambiguity. They deploy into rules. The CFTC, under existing authority, is precisely the structural clarity large players have been waiting for.

The White House Summit and Regulatory Advancement

The day before, on August 19, President Trump hosted a White House crypto summit alongside SEC Chair Paul Atkins, Selig, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, and Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong. Trump called on Congress to pass the CLARITY Act. Garlinghouse confirmed that the administration, SEC, and CFTC are fully aligned. He also noted that 67 million Americans now hold crypto, nearly 1 in 4 people.

The Innovation Advisory Committee, which held its first session the following day, includes Garlinghouse, Armstrong, and traditional exchange operators from Nasdaq, CME, and ICE.

On August 18, the SEC also proposed “Regulation Crypto Assets.” The rule creates two fundraising exemption tracks covering raises to $5 million and $75 million, respectively. A safe harbor allows tokens to exit securities classification once a network operates independently.

XRP Is Moving

XRP initially rose 12% following the summit, and it has sustained that momentum. The combination of Selig’s commitment to act with or without Congress, the SEC’s new exemption framework, and Ripple’s direct seat at the regulatory table created a clear catalyst.

One market participant pointed out that the Clarity Act passing may now matter less than many assumed. The rules are being written regardless, and XRP is responding to that reality.
