Here’s Why XRP Price Is Currently Surging

Crypto analyst Diana (@InvestWithD) posted a technical breakdown of XRP’s price action on August 19. She drew attention to a sharp upward move that followed Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse’s appearance at the White House Crypto Summit. XRP had spent weeks compressing around $1, and this move surprised many market participants.

Ripple CEO Sits Alongside Key Figures

For the summit, Garlinghouse joined President Donald Trump, SEC Chair Paul Atkins, CFTC Chair Michael Selig, and executives from Coinbase, a16z, Chainlink, and Kalshi.

Trump personally introduced Garlinghouse during the event and thanked him for the introduction. Trump called for Congress to pass “a fair version” of the CLARITY Act, describing the legislation as something that “will keep us ahead of China, keep us ahead of everyone else.”

The summit also served as the official launch of the CFTC’s newly formed Innovation Advisory Committee, a 35-member panel that includes Ripple, Coinbase, Chainlink, and Kalshi. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and representatives from Nasdaq, NYSE, CME, and DTCC were also present.

XRP Breaks Key Resistance

Diana’s post highlighted the immediate price reaction. XRP surged nearly 12%, breaking through the major $1.081 resistance level and reaching approximately $1.12. Many market participants expected XRP to close August below $1, but maintaining this momentum can prevent that outcome.

The breakout was sharp on the 4-hour timeframe, clearing multiple resistance levels in a single move. She noted that $1.145 now stands as the next major resistance. A clean break above that level opens the path toward $1.20. She also identified $1.081 as the critical breakout-retest zone to watch if momentum slows.

RSI Reaches Extreme Overbought Territory

The 4-hour RSI hit approximately 87.6 at the time of Diana’s post. That reading sits well into overbought territory. Diana flagged it as an extremely overbought signal, a notable condition given the speed of the move. XRP also pushed above the major moving averages on the 4-hour chart during the surge.

CLARITY Act Looms as the Next Catalyst

The CLARITY Act faces a procedural Senate vote on September 15. The bill requires 60 votes to advance. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong told Trump at the summit that the bill represents “a true bipartisan compromise” and expressed confidence that passage is achievable.

XRP’s compression has finally snapped. The CLARITY Act now stands as the next major catalyst. Ripple’s seat at the table during a meeting of this magnitude positions the company as a central voice heading into that vote.
