Purported Elon Musk’s Tweet About ‘XRP’ Debunked

Speculation surrounding Elon Musk and XRP has resurfaced after an image claiming the billionaire subtly referenced the digital asset in a 2022 post resurfaced. However, the image itself has drawn immediate scrutiny, with several community members pointing out that it is not authentic.

The post from XRPresso.io carried the caption, “A real tweet from Elon $XRP,” alongside what appeared to be a screenshot of a post from Musk dated October 27, 2022. The screenshot displayed the message, “I know eXactly what we need to do at twitteR. Payments!”

The image emphasized three letters by capitalizing and highlighting them in blue: the “X” in “eXactly,” the “R” in “twitteR,” and the “P” in “Payments,” creating the word “XRP.” The presentation suggested that Musk had embedded a hidden reference to XRP within the post.

Community Members Challenge the Claim

The comments beneath XRPresso.io’s post quickly questioned the screenshot’s authenticity rather than accepting it as genuine.

User Nathan Muirr responded with a direct rejection of the claim, writing, “Not. A. Real. Tweet.” His response reflected the position held by several users who argued that Musk never published the post shown in the image.

Another commenter, MonkeyPoxxer, shifted the conversation toward the potential impact of an actual endorsement. The user remarked that if Elon Musk were to mention XRP in connection with X Money, the token’s payment ambitions on the X platform, XRP’s price could climb into the $5 to $10 range. The comment represented personal market speculation rather than evidence that such a partnership exists.

GrimmReaper also questioned the image’s legitimacy, noting that Grok had no record of the post despite seeing the screenshot circulate repeatedly online. The observation added to growing skepticism surrounding the viral image.

Fabricated Screenshot Continues to Circulate

The screenshot shared by XRPresso.io is not an authentic Elon Musk post. It is a fabricated image that has circulated within sections of the crypto community for some time.

The edited screenshot was specifically designed to spell “XRP” by altering the capitalization of selected letters in the sentence. There is no verified record of Musk publishing the message in that format, and no evidence indicates he intentionally embedded a hidden XRP reference in any post.

Although Elon Musk has repeatedly spoken about transforming X, formerly Twitter, into an everything app that includes financial services and peer-to-peer payments, he has never posted the screenshot shown in the viral image or publicly connected XRP to those plans.

The episode highlights how altered images can continue circulating across social media, particularly when they involve well-known figures and widely followed cryptocurrencies. While the concept of X integrating digital asset payments continues to generate interest, the screenshot promoted by XRPresso.io did not provide evidence of Elon Musk endorsing XRP or hint at its future use on the platform.
