XRP Just Got Called Out

In a bold pronouncement that is turning heads across crypto Twitter, John Squire highlighted remarks from Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan that place XRP at the very center of a coming wave of institutional money. According to Hougan, 2026 could bring an “ETF Palooza” — and XRP could be one of its biggest beneficiaries.

The ETF Palooza Forecast

Hougan told CNBC that he expects more than 100 new crypto ETFs and ETPs to launch next year. He said, “We’re going to see a lot of single‑asset crypto ETPs. What I’m most excited about, though, is the growth of index‑based crypto ETPs.”

He argues that many investors entering now won’t want to pick between Ethereum, Solana, or Bitcoin. Rather, they’ll favor simple exposure through a diversified basket. As he put it, “They don’t necessarily have an opinion on Ethereum versus Solana, they just want to buy a broad swath of the crypto market and hold it for the long term.”

Why XRP Rises to the Fore

Hougan’s endorsement of XRP isn’t incidental. He has previously listed XRP among 11 altcoins that could benefit under the SEC’s new generic listing standards.  He sees XRP not just as a speculative token but as a core component of future index-based ETPs.

That suggests Bitwise envisions XRP becoming a foundational building block in mainstream, regulated crypto products — not just a fringe play.

Regulatory Shift: The Catalyst

Part of Hougan’s optimism stems from recent changes at the SEC, which adopted new generic listing rules for crypto ETPs. These rules are expected to speed up approvals, reducing the time needed from hundreds of days to as few as 75. According to Hougan, this regulatory overhaul is exactly what could trigger the ETF boom.

Yet he also tempers his bullishness with a warning: faster approvals don’t guarantee huge inflows. He noted that listing speed alone won’t spark demand unless broader market fundamentals support real investment.

The Institutional Playbook

Bitwise’s moves align with Hougan’s vision. The firm recently launched its Solana Staking ETF, which not only tracks SOL but also captures staking yield — a compelling hook for long-term, yield-seeking investors. Hougan believes that products like these, combined with index ETPs that include XRP, will reshape how institutions and mainstream investors access digital assets.

He confidently asserted: “This industry will be 10 times bigger than it is today.”

A Public Call-Out, Not Just a Nod

John Squire’s coverage isn’t just retelling Hougan’s optimism — it frames it as a call-out. This isn’t casual praise; it’s a public spotlight on XRP as a legitimate candidate to anchor the next generation of regulated crypto products. For XRP watchers, that signal holds weight: Bitwise isn’t merely acknowledging XRP — it’s planning to elevate it.

If Hougan’s forecast plays out, the coming ETF wave could redefine how capital flows into crypto. And XRP may finally be stepping into the spotlight it has long sought.
