XRP and XLM Are Sitting Right In Front of Hong Kong’s Tokenization Wave

Sunny Cheung, Executive Director at Shanghai Commercial Bank, outlined the institution’s priorities in a video, emphasizing its commitment to “cross-border connectivity, enable programmable finance and unlock new tokenized investment opportunities.”

He also stressed the importance of turning innovation into practical results, stating that “innovation is not a slogan, it’s execution.”

Hong Kong’s Tokenization Infrastructure Is Already Moving

Crypto commentator X Finance Bull sees a larger picture forming. Hong Kong’s banking industry has a 2030 roadmap built around international connectivity, digital assets, and modern financial infrastructure. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has more than 40 Fintech 2030 initiatives covering programmable money, tokenized assets, payments, and settlement.

Hong Kong already issued HK$20B in digital green bonds, using tokenized deposits for settlement. The HKMA plans to test tokenizing a market with more than HK$1.3T in Exchange Fund Bills.

XRP’s Existing Routes Into Hong Kong

X Finance Bull highlighted the connections between XRP and Hong Kong’s financial ecosystem. Ripple worked with Fubon Bank under the HKMA on tokenized real estate, programmable lending, and digital money. Shanghai Commercial Bank works with HashKey, and HashKey’s institutional marketplace supports XRP and RLUSD.

X Finance Bull notes in his tweet that XRP can serve as bridge liquidity, trading inventory, collateral, and settlement infrastructure as Hong Kong’s tokenized finance system develops.

Stellar’s Institutional Footprint

Stellar carries its own momentum into the picture. Nium connects Stellar to international payouts across 190 countries. TopNod integrated Stellar for stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets. Marketnode, backed by SGX and Temasek, is working with Stellar around institutional settlement. DTCC plans to connect tokenized securities to Stellar in H1 2027.

In Q2 2026, Stellar recorded approximately $4B in tokenized RWAs, 67 investment products, 10 regulated issuers, and $11.4B in stablecoin transfer volume. Hong Kong’s first regulated stablecoin licences, issued through HSBC and Anchorpoint and involving Standard Chartered, HKT, and Animoca Brands, add further weight to the picture.

The Connection X Finance Bull Is Watching

X Finance Bull’s argument rests on a simple premise. Hong Kong is building infrastructure for tokenized money, tokenized bonds, 24/7 settlement, cross-border payments, and programmable finance. All of that requires liquidity, currency conversion, settlement, and financial infrastructure.

XRP Ledger and Stellar already provide those functions. The analyst believes the real opportunity arrives when banks stop issuing tokenized assets and start moving, financing, exchanging, and settling them daily.

“They are building the financial system that XRP Ledger and Stellar are already prepared to serve,” X Finance Bull wrote. “That is the connection I’m watching.”
