Ukraine has officially requested donations in cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT) as the country strives to strengthen its defense against Russia’s invasion.
In a tweet via Ukraine’s official Twitter handle, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and, USDT addresses were shared for people around the world to make crypto donations.
“Stand with the people of Ukraine. Now accepting cryptocurrency donations. Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT. BTC – 357a3So9CbsNfBBgFYACGvxxS6tMaDoa1P ETH and USDT (ERC-20) – 0x165CD37b4C644C2921454429E7F9358d18A45e14.”
Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s vice prime minister, also shared the donation addresses via his verified Twitter and Telegram accounts.
In a tweet today, Fedorov wrote, “Ukrainian crypto community is ready to provide a generous reward for any information about crypto-wallets of Russian and Belarusian politicians and their surroundings. War crimes must be pursued and punished!”
To confirm that Ukraine’s Twitter handle was not hacked, the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation led by Mykhailo Fedorov told The Block that “the communications channels of the Ministry Of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and Minister Mykhailo Fedorov are secure. We are not hacked. This is the official position and messages we want to share.
“We are trying to contribute to the Ukraine’s victory and raise the awareness of international society on what’s happening in Ukraine. In every possible way we can.”
The viral donation appeal was also retweeted by Ukrainian diplomat Olexander Scherba. He wrote, “To those who want to help in bitcoin. Bitcoin is officially legit in Ukraine – just like this account and this retweet. Don’t mind the comments of our Russian “brothers”.
At the time of press, the Bitcoin donation address has garnered 9.82324314 BTC, according to the data provided by Blockchain.com. While Etherscan says a total of 986 ETH has been donated so far.
