Total Amount of XRP Available On Exchanges Revealed

A new post from professional game designer Chad Steingraber has shown the amount of XRP currently held across cryptocurrency exchanges.

Steingraber shared an exchange ranking showing 15.7 billion XRP across 41 platforms, while suggesting that this figure could represent the amount of XRP potentially available in the exchange market. The data also shows significant changes in exchange balances since February 24, 2025.

Exchange Balances Show 15.7 Billion XRP

Steingraber posted the exchange ranking on X with the caption, “Exchange XRP holdings. Only 15.7Billion XRP possibly available.”

According to the table attached to his post, the total XRP balance across the listed exchanges stands at 15,765,878,699 XRP. The combined balance represents 100% of the holdings tracked in the table. The data also shows that the total has declined by 3,407,745,080 XRP, or 17.77%, since February 24, 2025.

South Korea-based Upbit holds the largest balance among the exchanges shown, with 6.41 billion XRP and a 40.67% share. Binance follows with approximately 2.41 billion XRP, representing 15.27% of the total. Bithumb ranks third with 1.84 billion XRP, while Uphold holds about 1.62 billion XRP.

The ranking also shows notable changes across individual platforms. Binance’s XRP balance has increased by more than 1.62 billion XRP since February 2025, while Bithumb’s balance has fallen by approximately 1.35 billion XRP. Upbit, meanwhile, has increased its holdings by more than 425 million XRP during the same period.

Questions Over the Available XRP Supply

The post prompted responses about whether the 15.7 billion XRP figure should be considered genuinely available for trading or selling.

One commenter, KAO, pointed out that the exchange figures “includes user wallets,” highlighting the distinction between XRP held by exchanges and XRP that exchanges themselves may control.

Another commenter, T.T, described the scarcity argument as “a beautiful thesis.” However, THE FLASH added an important qualification, noting that the figures do not establish how much XRP is actually available to trade or sell.

THE FLASH explained that it remains unclear how much of the XRP recorded in exchange balances belongs to individual users and how much represents exchange-controlled liquidity. As a result, the actual liquid float could be substantially lower than the 15.7 billion XRP shown in the table.

Regulation Could Affect Exchange Supply

Bob Scott also responded by focusing on potential future demand. He explained that the 15 billion XRP figure could decline quickly if regulatory developments encourage greater institutional participation.

He referenced potential demand from banks, exchange-traded funds, Evernorth, XMoney, XRP staking, major companies, Ripple becoming a bank, and initiatives involving the BIS and DTCC. He also noted plans by the U.S. government that could influence XRP demand.

Steingraber’s post therefore centers on the amount of XRP currently recorded across exchanges, while the responses raise a broader question about how much of that supply is actually liquid. 15.7 billion XRP measures exchange-held balances. But comments emphasize that it should not automatically be treated as the total amount available for immediate market activity.
