This Could Become the Biggest XRP Story: Here’s What Ripple President Monica Said

Ripple President Monica Long recently outlined a new potential use for XRP that could expand its role in payment services. At XRP Seoul 2026, Long discussed Ripple’s work on payment credit, the XRP Ledger and the Lending Protocol.

Crypto commentator X Finance Bull highlighted those remarks in a recent tweet and suggested that credit could become an important part of XRP’s utility.

The comments come as Ripple prepares for 2027. Long said the XRP Ledger remains central to the company’s strategy, with Ripple aiming to move more customer transaction volume directly onto the network.

Monica Long Discusses Ripple’s Credit Pilot

Long said Ripple has developed a full-stack payments infrastructure and has seen adoption and transaction volumes grow tenfold year over year so far. She said Ripple wants to bring more of that activity onto the XRP Ledger through RLUSD.

She also discussed a payments-related decentralized exchange pilot that Ripple has been developing. Long said the pilot benefits from using the XRP Ledger’s decentralized exchange in payments.

However, Long then introduced another area of development: credit.

She said many Ripple payments customers, payment service businesses, already use short-term credit to fund their activities. These companies need access to money across different markets and throughout the day, making short-term funding an established part of their payment operations.

XRP Could Help Fund Payments

Long explained that Ripple is working with the Lending Protocol on a model that could use XRP supplied to lending pools as collateral to fund customers’ payments.

“We’re working with the lending protocol,” Long said, “being able to use pools of XRP that are loaned into the pool to use that XRP as collateral to fund some of those payments for our customers.”

Long described the concept as “payments credit meets XRP Ledger and the lending protocol.” She said the initiative could open new ways for XRP to provide utility across customers’ payment and credit transactions.

X Finance Bull focused heavily on this development. The commentator explained that payment businesses can need liquidity before their incoming funds settle. They therefore rely on working capital, prefunded balances and credit facilities to complete transactions.

Under the model Long described, XRP supplied by holders or institutions could support lending pools. Payment customers could then access funding, use the liquidity for transactions and repay the borrowed amount, making the capital available again.

Evernorth Adds to the Lending Narrative

X Finance Bull also pointed to Evernorth’s institutional XRP strategy, which includes plans involving the XRPL Lending Protocol.

The commentator suggested that this could connect XRP holders and institutions supplying capital with payment businesses that need short-term liquidity. Ripple’s payment customers could create demand for funding, while the XRP Ledger and Lending Protocol could provide the infrastructure for that credit activity.

Long emphasized that Ripple currently has the credit initiative in a pilot stage. She said she hopes to take it beyond the pilot in 2027.

For X Finance Bull, the development could give XRP another role within payment infrastructure. Instead of only facilitating the movement of value, XRP could also support payment financing if Ripple advances the lending initiative.
