Securitize Brings the XRP Ledger

Securitize carries specific weight for the XRP ecosystem. The firm has integrated Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD, into its tokenization platform and is integrating with the XRP Ledger to expand access and utility within the XRPL ecosystem, according to Ripple. She put its circulation at approximately $2.5 billion and highlighted its regulatory position under New York oversight and the federal regulatory developments involving the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

Mastercard Praises the XRP Ledger

Mastercard’s interest in the XRP Ledger is not accidental. Kwok acknowledged the growing role of stablecoins, including RLUSD, the US dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by a Ripple subsidiary. These assets allow people to hold and transfer dollar value without necessarily opening a US bank account.

However, Kwok believes stablecoins leave an important question unanswered: what happens when two parties want to transact without relying on a currency associated with a particular country?

“There needs to be something sitting in the middle which isn’t affiliated with a particular government,” Kwok said. He described XRP as an asset “designed for this precise use case.”

Geopolitical Tensions Could Change the Equation

Kwok believes current global tensions could increase demand for alternative payment systems. He compared this possibility to the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated the adoption of technologies that allowed businesses to operate remotely.

“It’s providing that accelerant,” he said, suggesting that geopolitical developments could push more financial institutions toward new payment infrastructure.

Crypto enthusiast John Squire shared a similar view in an X post responding to Kwok’s video.

“XRP was designed for that purpose long before most people understood the need. The vision was early. Now comes the real test: adoption,” Squire wrote.

Kwok argues that geopolitical changes could make a neutral bridge asset more useful. However, the need for such an asset does not guarantee that XRP will fill the role.

For now, the central question is whether financial institutions will turn XRP’s proposed use case into practical adoption. The technology supports currency-to-currency transfers, but sustained demand will determine how significant that role becomes.

The integration gives fintechs access to a new settlement option alongside ACH, wires, and real-time payments through a single API connection. RLUSD now sits inside the same banking infrastructure those fintechs already use.

How the Integration Works

Cross River’s COS acts as the central layer. Fintechs connect to it once and gain access to all supported payment rails. RLUSD on the XRP Ledger is the newest addition. Transactions settle on the XRPL in 3-5 seconds, 24/7, at a fraction of a cent in fees.

The stablecoin is issued on the XRP Ledger and backed 1:1 by U.S. dollars. Fintechs can move between USD and RLUSD directly within the platform. The integration also supports intraday settlement for issuers and acquirers, reducing settlement latency.

Adam Goller, Head of Fintech Banking at Cross River, described the goal plainly. “Our partnership with Ripple eliminates that complexity and makes payments simpler,” he said. The bank wants fintechs to access ACH, wires, real-time payments, and RLUSD settlement in one place without managing separate providers or blockchain infrastructure.

XRP’s Role in the Network

Vet’s analysis extended beyond RLUSD. The validator noted that using the XRPL creates a knock-on effect for XRP. The ledger’s native features, including tokenization, trust lines, accounts, and reserves, all contribute to XRP’s utility as a bridge asset.

Autobridging on the XRPL’s decentralized exchange uses XRP to provide liquidity between token pairs. That demand grows as more assets and activity land on the ledger.

“RLUSD opens the doors for the network integration, and the ledger takes care of the rest,” Vet wrote.

Scale and Momentum

RLUSD has grown to a market capitalization above $2.5 billion. More than $1 billion of that sits on the XRP Ledger. The XRPL has settled over $1.3 trillion in value to date.

Markus Infanger, SVP of RippleX at Ripple, addressed the integration’s significance. “Cross River is at the forefront of putting that into practice by bringing RLUSD and the XRP Ledger’s fast, low-cost settlement into its regulated banking platform,” he said.

The integration is currently available in limited states. Cross River and Ripple have positioned it as infrastructure for a financial system where RLUSD moves alongside traditional dollars under the same standards.

For XRPL validators and ecosystem participants, the Cross River integration is a data point. Real-time, regulated settlement is running on the ledger now.
